We are sailing "home"!! Little did we know that that would be what we would call Black Cay by the end... Buddy sailing through a rough patch, getting through Farmer's Cut, we make out way down south in the Exuma Sound. We get a big bite, but nearly loose it (her!) - though as any classy girl, she passed out after a couple of shots...- COVID starts to direct our actions, and freediving gives both boys and girls some much needed head space to cope with the mental strains of watching the world crumble. Home is where the heart is. Where the gratitude lies. Where friends are. Where your shelter protects. And we're learning that we are still close to "having it all". When you live on a sailboat, the worries and senses of not belonging anywhere can seem overwhelming at times, but at the same time, it's crazy that we can actually bring our home with us everywhere we go. Boat work continues as SV KuzKuz gets her bench seats, wood planks and bilge painted. First we paint the inside. Then in a later episode, the outside will shine. It’s like what happens in life. Take care of your inside and your outside will shine. This project was completed using left over paints out of the garage from previous boat work. I used barrier coat for inside the bilge. For the bench seats, Total Boat topside primer and other topside paints were tip and rolled. Ice Blue color was used to highlight the bench seats. She should look pretty for our camping trip at the lake.

Sabina und ich überlegen welche elektrischen Verbraucher wir an Bord haben werden. Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Doyle did an amazing job on the repair! We once again hit fog so hooking up our horn to the VHF hailer is a top priority before we head to the Caribbean. One of our favorite features is the excellent ventilation since we mostly live as "hookers" (aka at anchor) where the boat automatically turns into the wind so we stay cool and we don't need to battle mold. We also have starlink for easy off-grid life. Our 2400 watt solar panel array also means we rarely need to run an engine to charge our batteries. ABOUT US: We saved for a our future boat, sold everything that we owned, and shipped the rest in a container to Cape Town, South Africa. We then flew there and explored South Africa by way of a safari and touring Cape Town before moving aboard our boat. We then sailed to Saint Helena, Ascension Island, Fernando de Naronha (Brazil), Martinique, Sint Maarten (Dutch and French side), the US Virgin Islands (Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas), the British Virgin Islands (Anegada, Norman Island, Jost van Dyke, and Anegada), The Bahamas (Inagua, Crooked Island, Long Island, George Town, Staniel Cay, the Exumas, and Eleuthera). We then sailed back to the United States, making landfall in Cape Canaveral, Florida. From there our destinations are endless! Both Dennis and Ann grew up military brats with Army fathers. Dennis (the Colonel) served 30 years in the US Army and his retirement pension helped us retire in our 50s. Ann (the ship's Captain) wrote Test Automation in Python and Java. Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. I talked my girlfriend (now my wife) and my 18 year old daughter into going skydiving for their very first time ... on my daughters 18th birthday! The birthday girl and I jumped first while Tisha watched in anxious excitement from the ground. In this video you will see Tisha get instruction from the Tandem Master minutes before we both jump. While I have jumped before, I have never jumped with my girlfriend OR my daughter ... I must say, it was pretty damn bad ass to have my girlfriend and TWO daughters there. Before the race had started it looked likely that the biggest fleet in the Transat Cafe L’Or were going to be dealt the toughest hand. The weather forecast for the opening few days of the race had already forced some changes across the fleets. The Ocean 50s were starting a day early to miss the worst while the Class 40s now had a pit stop in A Coruna inserted into their schedule. This now split their transatlantic dash into two legs, forcing all the crews to re-work their Atlantic strategy. But, three days after the fleet had re-started from the Spanish port there was another big judgement to make as the weather split their options in two. The questions was simple, go North or South? The answer was very complex and turned the 3,200 mile race to Martinique into a 13 day nail biter. We take a look at how the race played out in this fiercely competitive fleet. The 2025 Giltinan Trophy world champion Yandoo 18ft skiff team of Tom Needham, Fang Warren and Lewis Brake are set to add another trophy to their names when they line up next Sunday on Sydney Harbour for the final two races of the NSW Championship. With four consecutive wins for Yandoo going into next Sunday’s racing, the task looks particularly difficult for the major challengers as the early weather predictions indicate bread-and-butter wind strength and direction for the champion Yandoo crew and boat. The only challenger with a slim opportunity of becoming the 2025 NSW 18ft skiff champion is the Balmain team (Henry Larkings, Tom Grimes and Lachlan Prior), which will need close to a miracle. Looking mathematically at the current total point scores, and making allowance for each team discarding its worst race result to achieve its best seven-race score for a final points score, Yandoo will only need to record a 3rd or 4th place in one of the two races on Sunday to become champion. Yandoo’s present score, including ALL SIX RACES sailed so far, is 11 points and so with even a 4th place finish in one race would finish with a total of 14 points. Balmain’s present BEST FIVE RACES sailed so far is 12 (and includes a throwaway 13th as its other result). Balmain needs two more winning results on Sunday to give it a best possible seven-race score of 14 points. Finishing level with Yandoo on points is no better for Balmain as Yandoo would take the title on count-back with four race wins against what would be AT BEST three wins for Balmain. Regardless of what seems to be an easy overall victory for Yandoo, if the expected conditions do arrive at race time, they will provide on-water spectators and SailMedia livestream video watchers with plenty of action and good fleet racing for the podium placings.
