Wieder mal eine staubige Folge in der die Akkukiste plaziert wird, die Rückwand der Achterkabine bearbeitet und der die Wetlockerdeckel fürs Lackieren vorbereitet werden. Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Some unique features of this amazing yacht!

In this episode of The Rogue Rigger we give our Mini Transat 6.50 "Rogue' a bit of a facelift. The sun has not done the paint any favors on parts of the deck so we decided to try out applying a high end car vinyl wrap material. We were originally planning on re-spraying the paint in the troubled areas but we did not have a good weather window too do it properly. As well it was less expensive to do the wrap instead of painting again. I have used this product before on one of my 505's with great results. I used the VVIVID Black True R Carbon Fiber Vinyl with air release. It was relatively easy to do once you figure out how to work with it. I prepped the hull by sanding down filling any rough spots, then I wiped it down with acetone. Took about 6 hours to do the job as I had to move the scaffolding several times and I was doing it in 40-55 degree F weather. It is much easier to work with when its warm out. Could not be more stoked with the final result!

We set off on our own from Fuengirola and find ourselves anchoring at a beautiful spot where we enjoy time snorkelling at our own private beach. We visit Motril Marina and have a wonderful experience, we highly recommend the place for its quirky feel and friendly welcome. We also met a couple of Five Go Sailing fans. We then go to Aira where we strike gold at a carboot sale. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. We have bought a boat we have to gut it, rebuild it, sell all of our possessions and have t he guts to cast off. Follow our adventures. We are thrilled to share some exciting news from the Chasing Bubbles Foundation! Our journey to empower kids around the world to chase their dreams has taken a significant step forward with the launch of our first youth sailing program in the Virgin Islands. Last month, Chasing Bubbles piloted our first youth sailing program, welcoming five junior high students aboard Bubbles. For all of them, it was the first time they had ever been on a sailboat. They were understandably nervous yet excited to try something new! Through thoughtful instructions, each student got a chance to drive the boat, pull on different lines, and even go for a swim in the afternoon. By the end of the day, they all asked, “When can we do this again?” One participant, Tanya, even declared triumphantly, “I am no longer afraid of deep water!” Our ripples and waves in this ocean are growing with your support. Jo has been managing a shoulder injury and having failed to find anyone to put it right in Fiji, we decide our only option is to head back to Auckland to get it treated. While there , we visit family, shop for food and boat spares and fit in a sneaky visit to the NZ Boat Show. After a crazy busy week, we head back to Fiji and wait for a decent weather window to travel across the bottom of Viti Levu and up the eastern coast. We spend our time restocking the larder and making good use of the marina facilities. We crack through some boat jobs and give DT a damn good clean. Once our weather window comes up we head out and have a fabulous downwind sail 72nm to Momi Bay on the east coast. Leaving Peava we enter Marova Lagoon through the Mobili Passage. Marova Lagoon is the largest double barrier reef saltwater lagoon in the world. We visit two eco lodges before taking a short trip to a nearby town in search of food and internet.

Sailing Catamaran mast climb and Rig Check. We climb the mast on our sailing catamaran In this video we show how we go up the 12 metres mast of 'Double Trouble'. Safety is paramount and we always use a main and backup line as well as a good harness and rope handling techniques. Jo supervises from the deck while I go up the mast and check for chafe and wear of the various stays, rigging attachments, ropes and electronics that make up our mast. Hawila was built in 1935 as a coastal sailing cargo vessel, planked in 50mm oak with length up to 6m. Planks were fastened using treenails going through the frame and wedged on both sides, the seams were then caulked with hemp, and later filled with pitch. The last month we replaced more than 260m of the old Hawila's planks, some of them in still good shape of preservation and still holding strong to their treenails! On those oak planks we replaced, we chose to increase plank thickness from 50mm to 65mm, with length of 11 to 14m, this in order to add more strength and durability to the vessel. The Danish oak we used was planted 200 years ago, and air dried outside for 2 years before being fastened to Hawila. In addition, we increased the thickness of the galbord to 85mm, nearly twice the original thickness. In this short video, we present a sum-up of the processes used to replace a planks. Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! 94 teams sailed in the 2023 Hospice Cup in Annapolis is an annual one-day event. The day brings a wide range of boats from one-design, to handicap to cruisers, to dinghies to the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay to raise funds and awareness of participating local non-profit hospices. In its 42nd year, this regatta has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and it all goes toward offering quality end-of-life care to patients, their families and friends.

With a week of "shore leave" ahead staying with friends, we make our way from the Whitsundays to Bowen via the beautiful Cape Gloucester area, then return to the Whitsunday Islands to prepare for a month of having visitors aboard.
