As the sun rose on Oriental, North Carolina we set out across the Neuse River and down the Adam's Creek Canal towards Beaufort, NC. The weather is getting progressively worse as we motorsail the Bogue Sound. Our path takes us into a bombing range near the USMC Camp Lejeune, where we do not encounter any live bombing activity but we do find ourselves battling a squall on a narrow channel. This version of Episode 53 includes minimal edits to video and audio. This is intended to allow us to roll out more videos weekly in order to encourage greater engagement with our audience, and also to allow us to catch up to current time a bit quicker. Our quest towards The Fastnet 2025 continues! In this episode we undertake our longest race ever on Mist. The Junior Offshore Group's (JOG) race weekend consisting of a course from Cowes to the Easterm Solent, turning around, passing Cowes and finishing at Yarmouth in the Deep Western Solent on day 1 was an exciting ride culminating in a long downwind spinnaker ride along the mainland shore. We were placing well until the spinnaker halyard was snagged when we went to drop on a tight reach, seeing us scoot off downwind and having to beat against a rapid ebbing tide to the leeward mark. Such is life. Our video sees us undertake the return race from Yarmouth back to Cowes, with a short hitch out of the Central Solent before another spinnaker finish. Two things to be taken from this trip: 1) We do not understand our sail wardrobe and what works best for Mist 2) We need a better microphone to cope with noise reduction in a breeze. RORC TALK – The Famous Project RORC Clubhouse St James's Place, London 10 October 2023 RORC Members and their guests were invited to join Round the World Sailors Alexia Barrier and Dee Caffari for the latest RORC Talk about ‘The Famous Project’ at the London Clubhouse. The Famous Project’s ultimate ambition is to break the non-stop unassisted round the world record on the Maxi-Trimaran IDEC-Sport, and in the process set a benchmark time for a female team. The 31.5m trimaran, skippered by Francis Joyon, set the current Jules Verne Record in 2017 of 40 days 23 hrs 30 mins 30 secs. The Famous Project MOD70 Limosa is racing in the Rolex Middle Sea Race this month, followed by the RORC Transatlantic Race in January 2024 and the RORC Caribbean 600 in February 2024. In late Spring of 2024, The Famous Project will be competing in RORC Races with the Maxi-Trimaran IDEC Sport and attempting world records in European waters. In 1998, Tracy Edwards put together the first all-female crew in an attempt to be the first all-female crew to win the Jules Verne Trophy. Sponsored by Royal & SunAlliance, the women had broken five world records and were well on the way to beating the Jules Verne, when their 92ft catamaran was dismasted 2000 miles off the coast of Chile. Midafternoon storms were popping up all around as I motored back but no one of them came close to threatening us. Despite the threat of storms, it was an uneventful journey. But it was still a joy to be out on the water enjoying the scenery and the ride. Nous sommes partis dans nos belles regions d'isère et haute savoie mais pour l'heure nous te partageons le beau voyage jusqu au sud de l Espagne.. Partis pour un mois mi octobre 2024 (juste au moment des inondations dans la région de Valence que nous devions traverser), une periode compliquee au vu de la météo mais surtout choqués et attristés par le nombre de victimes annoncé a la radio qui grandit au fur et a mesure de notre voyage vers le sud.. Nous t"embarquons avec nous pour ce premier episode d'Helman vers l'Andaousie...Bonne route !

C'était un matin radieux lorsque nous avons décidé de prendre le large à bord de notre bateau, le Jael. Le ciel était d’un bleu éclatant et la mer scintillait sous les rayons du soleil. Pour cette première sortie en mer, nous avions la chance d'être accompagnés par Bruno et Muriel, des marins aguerris qui avaient accepté de nous guider et de partager leur expérience. Dès que nous avons levé l'ancre, l'excitation était palpable à bord du Jael. Bruno, avec son air sûr et son sourire chaleureux, a commencé par nous expliquer les bases de la navigation, révisant les manœuvres essentielles et les règles de sécurité. Muriel, de son côté, s’est occupée de préparer quelques snacks pour que nous puissions profiter d'un moment convivial en mer. Alors que le bateau quittait le port, nous nous sommes rapidement immergés dans l’atmosphère sereine de la navigation. Bruno et Muriel nous ont montré comment ajuster les voiles en fonction du vent, et peu à peu, nous avons commencé à nous sentir à l’aise avec les commandes. La sensation de l’eau qui caresse la coque, le bruit des vagues et le vent dans nos cheveux nous ont fait comprendre pourquoi la mer avait tant de pouvoir d’attraction. Au fur et à mesure que nous avancions, Bruno nous a donné des conseils précieux sur la lecture des cartes maritimes et la gestion des courants. Muriel, quant à elle, partageait des anecdotes sur ses propres aventures en mer, rendant chaque leçon encore plus captivante. Leur patience et leur enthousiasme étaient contagieux, et nous avons commencé à nous sentir vraiment prêts à naviguer par nous-mêmes. Après plusieurs heures de navigation, nous avons fait une pause dans une petite crique isolée, parfaite pour un plongeon rafraîchissant. Le temps s’est arrêté alors que nous avons profité de ce paradis éphémère, riant et partageant un pique-nique improvisé sous le soleil. De retour sur le Jael, nous avons pris le temps d’admirer le paysage environnant, réalisant à quel point nous étions chanceux de vivre cette expérience. Avec Bruno et Muriel à nos côtés, nous avons pris confiance en nous, savourant chaque instant de cette sortie mémorable. En fin de journée, alors que nous rentrions au port, nous avons remercié nos amis pour leur soutien inestimable. Grâce à eux, nous nous sentions prêts à prendre la mer seuls, impatients de vivre de nouvelles aventures à bord du Jael. Cette journée restera gravée dans nos mémoires, symbole de notre passion commune pour la navigation et de l’amitié qui nous unissait.

Canary Island to Cape Verde Passage - Our first catch - Sailing Nipe EP 04 At last we manage to get a fish on board not loose them with line and lure. Every fish so far all the way from Sweden have taken line and lure so we were very happy when we manage to bring a fine Mahi Mahi on board. Very good passage we sail all the way, we did 800 nm in 5 days. No rain only good wind and beautiful weather.

Another useful coaching exercise we've been practising in Hopetown, Bahamas is "tacking on the whistle" the better the sailors get, the more frequent the whistle until it's almost continuous. But that makes it hard to video and watch the sailors, for it's difficult for coaches to concentrate on more than two boats at a time.
