Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Only a few days into the Abacos, we realize there is still so much more to see there! We spend one more great afternoon in Powell Cay where we take the dinghy to check out the beaches on the south side, and then head over to our new friends Brian and Shari's boat for a lesson in silk swinging (and this girl has some talent!). From there we head down to Green Turtle Cay in some crappy weather conditions, which are made only crappier when we found out our headsail had a tear. Not letting that get us down though, we spend a few enjoyable days in GTC before going just a little further south to play with the pigs in No Name Cay. What an interesting few days we had in Istanbul, Turkey filming and testing the Aiata Wayfinder 38! If you like American style big volume with bow flare, but also appreciate Finnish Adventure Boat hulls and their efficiency then this is a boat that sits somewhere in the middle. Featuring a hull designed by that same designer of Axopar Boats this is a boat that gives performance, capability and volume in one. But it doesn't stop there! This is a modular designed boat which means you can order a sun top and if you change your mind and want a cabin they can literally send you the sides and bolt them on at a later time! Time to lift anchor and get out! This week we are anchoring in what seems like a paradise for a sailor but it’s not! Boatlife in this part of the Mediterranean Sea may look like a dream but in reality, it is far from ideal. Even though the region is beautiful for sailing, everything in this town requires a climb up. No stores for provisioning or such are within easy reach. Once we made the ascend, we are looking for a hungry sailor restaurant to treat ourselves to one single carbonara. And just like that, we have been stripped of our weekly budget. 37 Euros for a single meal: We need to get out of here! But we won’t let this damper our mood as sailing life can be unexpected.

Talk about getting off the beaten path. Sailing our home through the San Blas for the past weeks and months has been an absolutely amazing cultural and breathtaking experience. There are picture perfect islands everywhere. The local Kuna indians, who control the land, have been able to maintain their way of life. It is so remote here that there is very little cell coverage and absolutely zero internet. In this episode we explore the vast sea life underwater, spearfish and interact with the local Kunas. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option.
