We launched the dingy to check out a black mark on the port side of Isabella. Whew! It was just a scuff and not a scratch. Also made a terrible discovery of a leak with the hoses going to the VIP sink. Hmmm, that’s probably why our water pump kept cycling. Steve sanded and refinished the aft companionway wood. Found some rot on the panel in the lazarette. Once repaired, the water maker needed help. Unfortunately, both cylinders were damaged. Always fun discovering and working on boat projects. Was a bit of a risky venture, but we looked for the best fireworks on the island that would be shot over the ocean so we could launch from the boat, and if our "MARINER" Drone took a hit it would not fall over any land or crowds... Took us 3 launch attempts from our dinghy in the pitch dark to get it up and filming properly from beside the fireworks launch barge you can see in the first scenes of the video. We filmed the entire video with the "MARINER" Waterproof Drone and our newest GoPro Hero4 sport camera... the sunset shots at the beginning are filmed in Raw 4K resolution, but we filmed the fireworks in 1080p 120fps to enable smooth slow motion, and then processed the entire video in 1080p 30fps. The boys go on an epic mission surfing and fishing up the wild pacific coast of Panama on a hurricane damaged catamaran! They also bump into old friends in a remote anchorage, so they sail up the coast together, having a friendly race between 2 catamarans and a big schooner sailboat! In this episode of Millennial Falcon, we are back on the water and getting our sea legs back. As we splashed back in the water in such a rush we had to finish off a few jobs that we didn’t finish in the yard. Namely, changing out the bolts on our backstay and attempting to fix a very poorly timed refrigerator breakdown! While precariously hanging over the back of the boat installing the backstay bolts was a challenge, even more challenging was attempting to fix our broken fridge. Unfortunately, our attempts fail and we're left fridgeless. With boat projects out the way and done with, we set off for a sail around to St George’s... weather permitting. By the time we go for the sail, it's a beautiful afternoon and we show our new crew the ropes of how to sail and catch a fish (it was probably more of them showing US how to catch one!). While we did manage to get a fish on the line, catching him was a different matter as our boat’s newly painted hull made her a bit too smooth and fast in the water and the poor little fish just couldn't keep up with the lure!... never a complaint we’ve had to make before! We round out the fantastic day sailing by a wrap up in the cockpit of what we’ve been up to in the yard and the sailing day. What we didn't know was that this wonderful day sailing was to be our first and last sail for quite some time. Only days after this episode wrapped we were plunged into lockdown, and have been there ever since. Walking in Petersburg, Alaska, felt a bit like being home in Sweden. There’s so much Nordic influence! Scandinavian boat names, Nordic flags and a viking ship! We plan well before setting off again because we are going through Wrangell Narrows, a narrow channel where two currents meet and we’re going through on a springtide! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter, January 2016, and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.
