The boat is afloat, and we are on our way south! Just because we left the yard though doesn’t mean the boat work is finished. Duh. We still need to tune the rig, bend on the sails and climb the mast to attach the instruments. There’s a bunch of plumbing that needs attention and a manual bilge pump we discovered no longer works. Some projects are fun, and some are a slog. What’s always fun is checking a completed task off the list — and if you use the right type of list, it can be magical. Hope you enjoy! Sailing Exumas. Action packed episode. A shark ate our fish. Snorkeled over sunk plane in Norman's Cay, where our own drone also crashes! Dinghy trip through Shroud Cay with Pete Goss. Incredible turquoise sea inside Norman's Cay. From Bell Island we headed north to Norman’s Cay, stopping briefly on the way in the stunning blue water on the east side of Hawksbill Bay Cay. Our journey also had some fishing attempts, catching 0.5 fish! Arriving to Norman’s Cay, we visit Mac Duffs bar and the unfinished marina. Next morning, we snorkel over the Pablo Escobar DC3 plane wreck, then crash our own drone into the sea (!), then moved to meet friends at Shroud Cay. The afternoon saw us on a wonderful dinghy trip through the pristine creeks inside Shroud Cay, with a picnic lunch on the beach the other side, a dinghy race back to the boats and Brexit celebrations in the evening. Next day we sought shelter back at Norman’s Cay and watched the Super Bowl with friends, then sat out 2 days of strong winds. Finally, the best till last, an amazing dinghy trip through the interior sand bars and blue channels of Norman’s Cay. Our best dinghy tour to date. 28 Jan - 3 Feb 2020

http://tulasendlesssummer.com We anchored up in a very protected little anchorage off Shroud Cay and immediately began exploring. We paddled through the mangroves in crystal clear water all the way across Shroud Cay and ended up where the cut meets Exuma Sound. There were cliffs, trails, and a few signs that indicated we were at an area called "Camp Driftwood". The place was absolutely incredible with views straight out of a movie. We couldn't believe how fast the water was moving and how clear it was. We highly recommend checking out Shroud Cay!

Es una maniobra muy sencilla que estoy seguro que a muchos de vosotros os será de utilidad. Este sistema es muy cómodo en nuestro puerto habitual, donde tengamos nuestro amarre. Tendremos un cabo atado a la argolla en el pantalán y en el otro extremo un mosquetón, lo engancharemos al balcón de prueba como mejor nos convenga y os muestro las dos formas que yo uso. La primera es enganchar el mosquetón al mismo cabo y la otra manera de enganchar el mosquetón a una zona firme del balcón . Siempre tengo una boya enganchada en una de las cornamusas, es una boya con un cabiito arriba y en la parte de abajo se conecta con la línea del muerto. Sólo nos quedan soltar los amarres de popa Una vez sueltos cogemos la boya y la llevamos a la mitad del barco, así no aseguramos que queda fuera del alcance del timón y de la hélice. Ahora soltando solo el mosquetón el barco queda totalmente libre. A continuación damos atrás y nos separamos del muelle. Una vez tenemos la suficiente distancia de los demás barcos damos avante. En mi opinión es muy importante atracar despacio no debemos tener prisa y aunque con el tiempo y la experiencia iremos dominando la maniobra hacerlo tranquilamente evitará estrés y problemas. Con el barco prácticamente parado nos vamos a la prueba cogemos el cabo con el mosquetón y lo enganchamos Con esta sencilla maniobra nos ahorraremos tener que poner los dos cabos de amarre pasando los por la gatera y haciendo el nudo a la cornamusa. El siguiente paso es cazar la boya con el bichero y con esta maniobra prácticamente tenemos el muerto de popa a bordo O explicó con detalle para qué sirve esta boya: Al tener la boya cerca de la popa nos ahorrará tener que andar cazando y subiendo más de 8 o 10 metros de la línea desde el pantalán a la boya. Y creedme, aunque parezca poca cosa esto es mucho trabajo cuando atacas solo con viento fuerte y el barco quiere cruzarse mientras tú tiras de la línea como un loco para evitarlo. Además también evita que al subir la línea ésta se pueda quedar enganchada en la orza o en la hélice. Terminamos de subir el muerto al barco y ojo si el cabo no está limpio tendrá mejillones y demás vida marina pudiendo producir cortes, es mejor usar guantes. Tiramos suavemente del cabo y el barco se irá moviendo hacia su sitio Me gusta el sistema de barbas de gato porque puedes regular con más precisión la fuerza que ejerce el muerto a babor o estribor y esto es muy útil dependiendo de donde sobre el viento. Hacemos un nudo a la cornamusa. Fijaos con qué tranquilidad, sin prisa ninguna y sin carreras vamos a poner los amarres de babor y estribor. Sin el truco del cabo con el mosquetón deberíamos amarrar muy rápido la proa y salir pitando a la popa para amarrar también y aunque no lo parezca a se tarda un tiempo en coger los cabos con el bichero, pasarlos por la gatera y hacer el nudo a la cornamusa. Ahora iremos cazando un cabo en una banda y en otra hasta dejar la prueba del barco en el sitio que queramos. She has many of the basic system configurations, port light style, and other developments that followed hull #21, the Nordhavn 40 that circumnavigated in the 2001 “Around-the-World” voyage. She has the well-proven Nordhavn dry stack exhaust system and gravity feed fuel system, producing one of the most reliable engine systems fitted on any yacht. Castella was purchased, maintained, and continually improved by her original owners. Castella has spent her life exploring Southeast Alaska, Southern California, and has been as far south as Huatulco, Mexico. She has paravane stabilizers providing simple, effective stabilization when needed, and increased fuel efficiency when stowed. The owners report a deployment time of approximately 3 minutes, and a retrieval time of 5 minutes. An added benefit of the paravane system is that it is also effective at anchor. Castella's interior: Enter the salon through a gasket, dogged, aluminum door. There is a dinette settee and table to starboard and an opposing settee to port. The galley is at the port forward end of the salon, and has granite countertops. Just forward there are steps up to the pilothouse and down to the passageway access to the head and sleeping cabins. The head, with separate stall shower is to starboard and the guest stateroom is to port. Engine room access is through the guest cabin, although there is a mechanic’s and egress hatch in the salon. At the forward end of the passageway is the master stateroom. The master has a centerline double bed. The engine room of the Nordhavn 40 II series is legendary for its space and systems organization.

Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. This week we did manage to squeeze in some shooting at the end of the week... and get up to South Portland, Maine to take a look at a 1969 Swan 36 sailboat for sale. This is a bluewater Sparkman & Stephens sailboat design so it's pretty as can be.... and this one is in fantastic shape.
