Torqueedo Electric Outboard Demonstration, 2015
(The dinghy shown is a West Marine RU-3, PVC rollup, often on sale for less than $700 US) When it comes to taking the crew ashore, rowing an inflatable is awkward and slow. On the other hand, a heavy outboard hanging on the stern rail is at best a flag of convenience. How about a Torqueedo electric outboard motor, which is smaller, lighter, and comes apart for easy storage belowdecks with no fluids to leak or stain the doilies? The jury will be out for a while on the question of lifespan and battery endurance, but the initial impression is good.
