We had a pretty great hide away and the storm didn't hit nearly as hard as predicted - even got downgraded to a tropical storm (only 70mph instead of 75mph). Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. Yes, I have to say it is heartbreaking to see footage of a friend's sailboat burning and quickly disappearing to the bottom of the sea, and without a reasonable explanation of what happened.. but this sailboat caught fire from a runaway diesel when the diesel engine suddenly raced out of control until it was superheated and started the engine room on fire.. and without warning, while the boat was at sea. Our hearts go out to Fred in this terrible aftermath of having suffered the loss of his boat completely, and we hope we can find cause and resolution to hopefully avoid the same from happening to anyone else. Sleek and aggressive, this 40 meters vessel stands out for her impressive performances, ensured by the aluminum alloy hull and three MTU engines 16V2000 M96L and three KaMeWa water-jet engines (n. 2 x S71-4 on the sides and one central booster S63B-4), which push her up to a maximum speed of 31 knots and a pleasant cruising speed of 25 knots. I had to make the decision to leave Parlay in the marina in Panama to go to work on a Superyacht.
