Marine electrical, woodworking, an epoxy pour, KP update, Akiva update, wood finishing and varnishing, hull fairing, bilge pump installation, navigation equipment, and spiffing up the shaper to do the big work of making the cherry wood grab rails for the interior. There's a lot going on in the shop, and to give you the inside baseball perspective, Steve has about four things going on so he can be working on something when people are working around and about the galley and he can't get to it. His main project, though, is definitely working out the stowage in the galley and rebuilding the elements that support the galley sink. Thank you very much for your support through our push to the water. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. A Pearson Vanguard 33 classic sailboat is found for sale in Freeport, Maine this week for only $14,000. It's a little extra work to uncover this nicely kept yacht, but Captain Q is ready to dig under the wrapping and show us what's great about this lovely cruising sailboat and what areas could use some love. We discover a few new things; a sea swing, a stuffing box, and a retro tiller aboard this lovely Phil Rhodes design from the 1960s. Like what we're doing & want to help?? A last minute decision means I will have to leave the boat in Costa Rica. So we go for one last sail, and what an extreme sail it was!! SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are almost ready to cross the Pacific Ocean!! Check our website out at https://www.cadoha.com In this episode a little reality check for everyone who follows us, behind the scenes much is lost. Life on a sailing boat isn't always romance and sunshine, some days it's really stressful and eventually can lead to fallouts, especially on days like today when we lose the ability to steer our boat. You can find our amazing wedding videographer over at: https://www.charlottedart.co.uk If you want to check out our anchorages guide then you can do so here, I'd totally free and we hope it's of some use to you all, just our way of trying to give something back to what has been the most supportive community of people. https://www.cadoha.com/britishanchorages

Gathering the grown knees has ended up being quite the adventure. But in this episode, Steve tackles the biggest stump of them all. This one yielded quite a few good specimens that will be perfect in Arabella. Once all the knees were freed and once side was planed flat we needed to thickness them all and bring them to a fairly uniform size before oiling them and putting them away to season and dry until they are ready to be installed. Lucky for us Kathy and Paul, who also donated the Bridgeport and metal lathe to us, loaned us an alaskan chainsaw mill to get the job done. It was the perfect tool for this application and buzzed through all of the knees in short order. One task that went easier than expected! Not something that happens very often here. With this done, the plan was to get back to hanging planks so that we can get the last two oak planks on Arabella before leaving for Costa Rica next month. However, we were recently visited by the new building inspector in town who has voiced concerns about our plastic covering of the boathouse. In short, it sounds like we need to figure out a different more fire retardant option for the roof and we are going to replace the trusses with bow shed trusses to aid in shedding the winter snow as well as be able to handle the weight of the heavier membrane which will make up the new roof. With this massive undertaking, we are concerned about starting on a plank before we get the O.K. to do the roof so that we are not pausing the process mid hanging and chance the plank warping on us. So, the next few weeks will have to be played by ear... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. 61' Bertram Bertram Sportfish Photos + Specs: https://hubs.ly/H0nGfD10 Jeremy Floden & Max Murphy / (850) 543-2484 & (401) 633-4320 In Stock and built right here in Florida, the Bertram 61 is revolutionizing the deep-vee hull in the 21st century, paying homage to the iconic Bertram 54. Advanced construction and state-of-the-art propulsion and technology provide unmatched performance, allowing this vessel to run smoother, faster and shallower than any other boat of this size. She offers a roomy 3 Stateroom, 3 Head layout, including a full-beam Master Cabin. The open salon and galley design is optimized for both living space and plentiful storage, featuring a forward panoramic glass window. The 61 convertible features a large 188 square foot cockpit, equipped with a 30-gallon live bait well with an aquarium view , port/stbd. insulated fish boxes, LED lighting, and mezzanine speakers. Guests and crew can cook up a day's catch on the starboard Kenyon electric grill which can also be utilized for hook and lure storage, while out hunting for billfish. Two custom refrigerated compartments border the cushioned mezzanine seating accompanied by a removable cup holder console. The under-mezzanine engine room provides access to twin CAT32A diesel engines, Seakeeper gyro stabilizer (standard on all models) and Onan generator(s). Modern sound absorbing insulation muffles engine room noise, for a surprisingly quiet ride and acoustics necessary to raise fish. Make your way upstairs to the spacious flybridge , furnished with cushioned lounge seating throughout and two Murray helm chairs. Captain and guests enjoy their favorite tunes with the Fusion stereo system... Don't worry, the Captain won't need to go anywhere to control any part of the boat, with the Octoplex ships control multifunction display at the tip of his fingers even mechanics in the engine room, or lights left on in the galley. The simple and modern helm station is equipped with a custom teak helm pod , Palm Beach controls with integrated bow thruster control, CAT Marine 7" color displays, stainless steel Ongaro tournament steering wheel and a Kahlenberg marine air horn. The new Bertram 61 is equipped with the most sophisticated mechanical and electrical systems, delivering luxury accommodations for long-distance adventures, and tournament-winning level sportfishing. The sharp lines and crisp styling will feel familiar to Bertram enthusiasts, but the stunning interior is unlike anything the marine industry has ever experienced, in this category. ----------------------------------------------- Jeremy Floden Jeremy@DenisonYachting.com (850) 543-2484 Max Murphy Murphy@DenisonYachting.com (401) 633-4320 ----------------------------------------------- 0:00 Introduction 2:23 Cockpit 4:16 Engine Room 5:05 Flybridge + Helm 7:08 Salon 8:44 Galley 9:30 Master Stateroom 10:13 Guest Staterooms 10:54 Foredeck 11:35 Outro Musicbed SyncID: MB01GYBD5Y7PIDF

With the sheer clamp bolted into place the next piece of the deck puzzle is the breasthooks. The breashooks join the clamp with the stem and stern posts and provide a lot of structural stability. In this episode we take a look at Victoria's breasthooks and launch into making ones for Arabella. Thanks for following our crazy journey! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. #fijisailing #adventurevideo Part two of my epic sail to Fiji Thank you for watching this episode, please give us a thumbs up and subscribe. Don't forget to click the bell next to the subscribe button to notify you of every new episode, that way you’ll never miss an adventure!! On Facebook our page is ‘Adventures of an old Seadog’ and there you can find ‘realtime’ up-dates and news. Facebook https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ If you’d like to help the Old Seadog Please checkout our Patreon page on the link below. https://www.patreon.com/Adventuresofanoldseadog Contributions to the project can be made at paypal.me/seadogadventures Instagram https://www.instagram.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ Twitter https://twitter.com/barryperrins Thanks so much for your support, The adventure continues. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Before Jason’s mom said goodbye in Tahiti, we sat her down, gave her some beers and asked YOUR burning questions. There's WAAAAYYYYYYY more on our website: https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/sundowner-questions-mom We curated the questions from Instagram, Facebook and of course from our Patrons. We really only gave her two rules: Answer honestly and don’t hold back. Your questions ranged from the experience of visiting Curiosity to the fear factor of having kids sailing around the world, to Jason's worst behavior as a kid and even what she thought of me (Nikki) the first time she met me.  So, grab beer and prepare to be surprised...because these are probably NOT the answers you were expecting.   Join the Virtual Crew on Patreon: ⛵ http://bit.ly/join-gwtw Find us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_wynns/ #GoneWithTheWynns #Sailing #FrenchPolynesia ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Below are the questions we hit her with in this vid. From stanky sailing perfume to composting toilets and millionaire trust fund babies, we covered a lot of ground in 20 minutes. Hope you enjoy. 01:34 Are Nikki and Jason still crying because they miss Kate? 02:04 How long did it take you to swim (travel) to Tahiti from Dallas, Texas, USA? 02:54 If you had to name a perfume for sailing across the Pacific Ocean what would it be called? 03:36 Have Jason and Nikki inspired you to live more of your own dreams, or have you inspired them? 03:52 Mom announces she’s buying a class B motorhome and going Van Life in 2019! 04:21 I have never seen Jason angry, does he ever get upset? 05:12 How much do you honestly worry about your kids while traveling and sailing? Where did everyone sleep when you had the whole family on board the catamaran? 07:28 When did you meet Nikki, and did you think their relationship would bloom into this? 08:30 What did they ask you to bring them from the USA? 08:59 When jason was growing up did you see him choosing this traveling-sailing lifestyle? The Wynn’s are such a unique mix of personalities. 10:06 What’s the best way to keep in touch on a day to day basis with your kids traveling across oceans? Sat Phone? Plane Tickets for birthdays? 11:23 What is your workout routine to stay so fit and trim…#JasonsMomIsAMILF 12:01 What is hotter: Texas or the South Pacific? 13:56 WE WANT TO LIVE A SIMILAR LIFESTYLE as Jason and Nikki. As family what helps make their traveling easier on you? What is the hardest part? Any advice for a young couple that can’t wait for their traveling lifestyle but worry about family staying stationary? 15:00 Do you have a signature cocktail you like when on the sailboat? 16:00 Where does Jason get his adventurous spirit from? If there’s one thing about Jason that drives you mad, what is it? 17:18 Jason goes to jail?!? 18:04 Lightning Round • Beard or No Beard on Jason? • Long hair or short on Jason? • How did you like the mattress in your cabin? • Snorkel or SCUBA in Tahiti? • Vacation in Tahiti or Moorea? • Would you prefer to visit us at a National forest (national park) in the RV or a Marine Park on the sailboat? • Better boat drink: Beer or Margarita? 19:01 Out of all the places you traveled to meet up with the Wynns where has been your favorite destination? 19:14 Do you ever get sea sick while sailing on their catamaran? 19:17 Do you have a favorite cabin on the sailboat? 19:22 What’s your favorite meal that Nikki cooks on the sailboat? 19:44 Are you retired or just able to take lots of leave? Did you travel much before Jason and Nikki went adventure seeking around the world? 19:56 I’m starting to believe the Wynn’s are smugglers and their mom is being used as a transport mule, is there any truth to this? 20:06 What was Jason like as a young boy? Did you ever dream he would live on a catamaran sailboat and sail around the world? 20:24 How do you really feel about using a composting toilet? 21:05 Do you miss the RV Geeks? 21:24 ❗The most important question of all…We’ll put the conspiracy theories to rest: You traveled in an RV around North America, now you’re sailing around the world. We're finally making it official! Curiosity lives and the adventure continues!!!! We've shared way more renaming details on our site: http://www.gonewiththewynns.com/appeasing-the-gods-renaming-our-sailboat Join the Crew on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/the_wynns We've been putting it off way too long. We say we've been sailing "in-sin" for months and getting away with it. The time has come to make it official. "Reset" is no more and "Curiosity" lives. It's part party, part ceremony and a whole lotta ridiculous. We top off the day with a quick drone flight and some great snorkeling. This is a heavenly day on the water! Nikki and I are so fortunate to have such a wonderful life, and we couldn't do it without the support of our online community. Our Patreon's go way above and beyond, the people that shop using our Amazon link help keep fuel in the tank and food in our stomachs and those that leave kind comments lift our spirits and make us want to create more short films. This is part 2 of the bocas del toro regatta, where we end up being in a close race against 2 catamarans much larger than us. We had to try a few different tactical moves to beat these boats with higher hull speeds, which was a fun day had by all! SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. Welcome back and Happy New Year! We've been working on Arabella for four years now. We cut the first tree in January of 2016 and it has been a wild ride since then! There have been plenty of challenges along the way. We look forward to solving these challenges every time but it also takes a lot of energy... so this past year we decided to take a little bit more time to ourselves to try to recharge the batteries. Keira and Alix took a trip to Paris to visit Alix's family and Steve took the week to relax in the woods while hunting (nope, didn't get much). After returning we decided to look a step ahead and harvest some root stock for some grown knees. This would provide the wood we harvest the time to season properly before being installed in Arabella down the road when they are needed. Knees are supports that connect the frames to the deck beams and have to be very sturdy. They often are made from Hackmatack or Tamarack as these usually grow in bogs and form long buttresses in their root stock. We don't have any of those growing around here so we decided to try to see what we can find out of white oaks growing on the property, which we need to harvest anyways. Quite the adventure... to say the least! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. In this episode we install all new TruDesign composite thru-hulls and get rid of all bronze out of the boat. We also reinforce our escape hatches after hearing of yet another boat lost due to this questionable feature. We also have major fuel issues on our main engine, and also go through the steps of applying propspeed, so an action packed episode indeed!! SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. We found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing across the Pacific Ocean!! A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. BootsProfis Website: https://www. For more tests, reviews, captain's report of the 2016 Hatteras 45 Express, go to http://www.boattest.com/review/hatteras/3459_45-express-ref=YT With the Cabo line morphing more and more into its sister company Hatteras, it was only a matter of time before we started to see models come out that reflected the best of both brands. Now the wait is over with the new 45 Express and Express Sportfish. The two models are basically the same as each other with added features that turn the dedicated cruiser into a dual-purpose cruiser/fishing machine worth drooling over. And both are offered in single or double stateroom layouts. Let’s take a look and see how the combination works.
