Episode 188: WE HIT A WHALE ?! We finally reach the Virgin Islands and catch some dinner. But once we get to anchor we discover our centerboard was broken. We believe we know when it happened during the sail, as we were tacking our way away from Curacao. I think we hit a whale or a submerged shipping container. It was very rough out just past dusk, so visibility was minimal. The Mobile Boat Guys specialize in the restoration of protection of gelcoat finishes. Gelcoat surfaces differ from clear coat (the paint found on cars), in that gelcoat is a lot more forgiving than clear coat because it is a thicker material. There are several ways to remove oxidation from gel-coat surfaces--wetsanding, compounding, polishing and a combination of all of the above. The key to keeping up with your boats appearance is having a proper maintenance schedule where you are waxing once or twice a season. However, how you store your boat when its not in use and the weather conditions your boat is exposed to will also determine how often you need to wax the gel-coat surfaces.

It is half the size of the Venta, but 1/4 of the price. At this price, it has an app and is much more "smart device" then the Venta. I plan to couple these devices to Homey from Athom. We whizzed out on a motorcat, Starfish, to snorkel at the Sombrero Reef. That was so cool! It’s a very popular spot right by the Sombrero Lighthouse and is the third largest coral reef in the world. Hello viewers, we’re always happy you are with us, especially our subscribers. Cleaning the sail locker we pulled out our spinnaker and staysail. They were measured, neatly folded and returned to the locker. Using the dingy again to get an accurate measure of the distance from Isabella’s stern to the shoal behind us. We decided it is 60 feet from the stern to when the depth is 6 feet or less. Isabella draws 7 feet. Since we were already out we decided to go for a small ride and ended up at a local bar and restaurant. It’s hard to believe that we have been on Isabella for almost two years. There’s been a lot of work and a lot of fun. We know there’s more to come on Isabella and took a few moments to remember good times on our previous boat, Cakewalk, a Catalina 42.
