Jesse Terry is a normal guy. Dad and husband, keeps a 9-5 job, lives in the city, etc etc, all that quote-unquote "normal" stuff. But he's decidedly not normal as a boat-owner, keeping a classic wooden ketch is top condition with some friends and racing & cruising her up and down New England's coast and out to Bermuda. I talked to him about the contrast between his "normal" life and sailing life, what it's like owning a wooden boat and a recent heavy-weather Berrmuda Race which saw a few major incidents at sea. -- ON THE WIND is presented by Forbes Yachts, the yacht sales professionals. Take a deep dive into the shape and features of the Da Bomb with Tabou Boards founder and shaper Fabien Vollenweider and Thomas Traversa! The Da Bomb excels in optimal conditions and it truly shines when the wind shifts onshore, creating less-than-ideal waves. Our R&D team have invested significant effort in enhancing the Da Bomb’s waveriding capabilities without sacrificing drive and planing performance, ensuring you can navigate through shore breaks and catch countless waves. Drawing inspiration from the larger Da Curve models, we’ve incorporated a refined tail outline, enhancing the Da Bomb’s agility and versatility. To boost control while turning, we’ve introduced an asymmetrical concave, allowing you to effortlessly and swiftly adjust your turn radius whenever needed. This feature proves invaluable, when tackling the critical sections of unruly beach breaks. While maintaining the renowned planing capabilities that the Da Bomb is celebrated for, we’ve opted for a slightly more taut rocker with less kick. This design ensures that no wave goes unridden and it empowers you to execute impressive aerial maneuvers. For 2025 we opted for five fin boxes, enabling you to tune your board exactly to your demands with different fin setups. The Da Bomb’s unmatched versatility, exceptional drive and heightened maneuverability enable you to savor your waveriding sessions at any location and in all conditions. This week our family is sailing from Tonga to New Zealand. This passage is known to be a difficult one and it's living up to its reputation. We are starting out the passage worrying about boat damage from the whale collision and we are low on food AND fuel. The weather isn't doing us any favors either. Thank you for watching and subscribing. You don't know how much we appreciate it! We dropped the anchor and spent a calm evening in a protected, but gusty anchorage. We were excited to find this little spot, because of it's proximity to No Name Cay. We had recently found out that there are pigs living on the island, much like the more popular and well known pigs at Big Major Spot in the Exumas. There were a lot more pigs here in the Abacos, but they were definitely more smelly, gross and aggressive. There were lots of cute baby pigs to look at, but we were not able to get very close to many of them due to the mother pigs being very protective of them. After a very brief pig diversion we got back to our more important task of finding dinner. One thing that we've really noticed in the Abacos is how much more reef access there is compaired to the Exumas. We motored around to the outer windward side of No Name Cay were there is no shortage of fish filled reefs and again easy access to tons of dive moorings. After catching a fish for dinner we motored back to Turtle to find that our boat had moved about 200 feet from where we left it. It is a mystery to us how it randomly moved, even after being anchored there all night in gusty conditions. Our guess at the time was that one of the boats anchored next to us must have snagged our anchor line when they left the anchorage. The weather forecast is showing the wind boxing the campus during the next couple of days, so we want to make sure we are in a well protected anchorage. White Sound looks like it will be the perfect spot for us, but we have to wait for high tide to get in through the channel with our 5' keel. Upon dropping anchor at White Sound we noticed that our anchor wasn't catching the bottom at first. Randall dove on the anchor once we got a good tug, and found that our anchor was snagged on a large piece of chain. It is probably the only thing that stopped us from dragging further in the pudding like bottom. He also found a lot of random junk on the bottom of the bay, like an outboard motor, and engine block, and lots of chain and ropes. We later found out that this anchorage has a history of boats dragging and probably isn't the safest place to leave your boat during storms. Who knows, maybe the bottom at Settlement Harbour has a similar bottom too. We are so relieved to have found such a well protected anchorage and we're looking forward to exploring this island and taking it easy for the next couple of days while we wait for the weather. _____________________________________________________ MUSIC USED: "Highlights" & "Point of View" & "These moments" by: Nicolai Heidlas LINK: ~https://www.hooksounds.com/royalty-free-music/highlights/644918/ ~https://www.hooksounds.com/royalty-free-music/point-of-view/48939/ ~https://www.hooksounds.com/royalty-free-music/these-moments/31565/ ******************************************************** Affiliate links have been added to this description to help our viewers find products shown in our videos. “As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.” Thank you. ********************************************************

Can you afford to go sailing in the Med? Most likely, I found our costs way better than expected! In this video, I break down our actual costs of 1 year living and cruising on our fully electric catamaran, covering thousands of miles through Italy, Croatia, and Greece. Starting on the hard in just outside Venice, down through the length of Croatia, across the Adriatic on our first overnight crossings, and finally into Greece, where we spent the winter aboard in Preveza Marina. This isn’t a theoretical budget or a "perfect year", these are the real numbers tracked through the year. We cover: -Mooring and marina fees (only 18 paid nights all year) -Cruising fees -Food, groceries, eating and coffee dates -Starlink internet (connected 365 days, even offshore) -Insurance, -Breakdown cover -Maintenance -Water and Electricity -The final total This was for two people and two dogs travelling thousands of miles through three countries for a full year in some of the most beautiful cruising grounds in Europe. ----------------------------------- We live on a 1976 Catalac 9M that we converted to a fully electric boat. All our energy comes from our solar panels and we use it for propulsion, cooking and even making water! Our boat is 9m long by 4.2m wide and weighs 5 tons. We have 3200W of solar, two 6kW ePropulsion outboards, and a 14.4kWh lifepo4 battery pack.
