This boat is very special to Andy Schell. He lived and cruised on an Allied Princess 36 with his family as a kid! Will his analysis of this boat be cold and pragmatic, or nostalgic and biased? Click play to find out! Of course, if you are a Quarterdeck member, you will have access to the video version of this podcast, and can watch the pictures of this boat and study the listing along with Andy, Mia and August! In this series of 15 lessons, we're going to take the mystery out of sailing by teaching the foundational skills every sailor needs—from understanding the wind and the parts of a boat to steering, trimming sails, docking, and staying safe on the water. Each lesson builds on the last, so by the end of the series you'll understand not just what to do, but why you're doing it—giving you the confidence to step aboard and keep learning every time you sail. So grab a notebook, follow along with each session, and if you're ready to make your sailing dreams a reality, let's get started with an Introduction to the Sailboat. ⚓️ABOUT US⚓️ The Sailing Academy is an ASA sailing school for those who want to learn to sail, cultivate sailing skills, or begin a lifelong sailing adventure. After spending the monsoon in Krabi, Thailand, living at anchor on our 42-foot sailboat, SV Reeva, we are finally preparing to check out and head back out to sea. But what do you actually do when you're living on a sailboat and the monsoon keeps you anchored in one place for over a month? For us, it meant slowing down. For 45 days, we lived at anchor in the sheltered waters of the Krabi River, which provided a safe harbour during some of the worst monsoon weather. Surrounded by mangroves, quiet waters and spectacular scenery, there was no great adventure every day—and that's exactly what makes full-time sailboat life interesting. There were trips to the market, boat jobs and maintenance, remote work, meals, lazy afternoons and plenty of time simply doing nothing. And of course, when three people live together on a 42-foot sailboat, there's always room for a few pranks, arguments, laughs and plenty of general nonsense! 😄 As the season slowly shifted, it was eventually time for our sailing family to move on. In this episode of The Reeva Project – Season 5 Episode 02, we take you through 45 days of life at anchor in Krabi, the process of checking out of Thailand and preparing SV Reeva for the next leg of our journey. This time, we are also joined by a new crew member as we leave the safety of the river and head back out into the blue. A quieter sailing vlog about the everyday reality of living on a sailboat full-time, life at anchor, family sailing and the liveaboard lifestyle—with a little bit of chaos thrown in. Welcome aboard SV Reeva. 🌊⛵🌊 We're Kaeya, Vaidehi & Gaurav ~ An Indian sailing family living full-time aboard SV Reeva, exploring the world one island at a time. This interview connects with Matt on the day that he left St John's, Newfoundland, bound for Aasiaat in Greenland where he will begin his quest to circumnavigate the Arctic solo and non stop. He expects to cover the 10,000 miles in around 90 days if everything goes perfectly. He has crammed 1,600 litres of fuel onto his Valiant 42 and will sail across the North Atlantic, passing north of Iceland and Norway, before he enters Russian waters. He, like Elle Hibberd and fellow OCC member, Harry Anderson, have succeeded in receiving the necessary permission to attempt the North East Passage without a Russian Pilot on board. Once he crosses the border into Russia his Starlink terminal and GPS will stop working leaving Matt without access to detailed satellite imagery to help him navigate the ice strewn waters. Instead Matt will have to rely on the Iridium network to stay in touch and access weather and ice information. We terminated the interview a little early due to poor audio quality but we will make every effort to catch up with him again when he is under way. Matt's sailing credentials are extraordinary. He became the first person to circumnavigate the Americas non-stop in a 309 day solo voyage through the North West Passage and around Cape Horn. He now runs an expedition yacht supporting scientists studying climate change. He does this through his non-profit organisation and is currently raising money to buy a new engine for his research yacht. Here is a short video explaining the route https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHPThATpYrQ Matt's website is: www.oceanresearchproject.org

In this episode of my solo sailing adventure, I'll take you from Cooktown up to Cape Flattery. We’ll start off with almost no wind and then ramp up to 25-knot gusts, so you can expect a mix of calm moments and some real action on the water. Now, not everything goes to plan. During the sail, I encounter some frustratingly tangled running rigging that takes a bit of effort to sort out, but we get through it. I’ll also include a shout-out to one of my keenest followers who gifted me some fantastic fresh produce, which was a real treat on the journey. And yes, we’ll talk about how the pontoon situation turned into a bit of a letdown. All in all, there’s a lot to look forward to, including the first mackerel catch of the season as we approach Cape Flattery! Let’s set sail! We lucked out! It seems the docks on the Islands are still pretty full, even after Labour Day. We expected to maybe cruise around and find nothing for the weekend, which would have kept us at the dock. I noticed that some friends were out, so I texted them and asked where they were and if there was a spot. They replied that they were on an Island, there were no extra spaces....BUT...they were leaving Saturday morning so if we got there around 10:00 am, we could swap spots! Tremendous! It was really windy and gusty by the time we left the marina on Saturday morning, but we got to Grenadier Island in plenty of time, swapped out the spots, and started to get settled. Some other friends contacted us, and we let them know that there was a free spot for their boat. So a great weekend was had with good friends! Chloe was the Star of the Show, and the weekend. She was constantly sniffing, tracking, and chasing any critter she could see. It was so much fun to see her so serious and alert as a Hunter! She caught nothing, by the way. On Sunday, heading back to the marina, we stopped into Huck's Marina for a fuel-up and pump-out. What a beautiful facility and really helpful staff! As the bad weather starts coming in, it's more important for us to take advantage of every weekend on the boat!

50 years in the marine industry is built on more than time. It comes from trusted partnerships, technical knowledge and a commitment to supporting customers long after a product is supplied. As Gineico Marine celebrates its 50th anniversary, Craig David, Area Sales Manager for Quick, reflects on the longstanding relationship between Quick and Gineico Marine, and the role our team has played in establishing and supporting Quick Gyro stabilisation systems across Australia. From new-build projects with leading shipyards to the growing retrofit market, local product knowledge, technical capability and an established dealer network have been central to that partnership. Thank you to Craig and the Quick team for being part of the Gineico Marine story. https://www.gineicomarine.com.au #GineicoMarine #50Years #QuickMarine #QuickGyro #GyroStabilizer #MarineIndustry #MarineTechnology #MarineEquipment #AustralianMarineIndustry #BoatBuilding #BoatRefit
