Puerto Plata ‘Gran desfile carnaval’ was on again after 2 years on hold due to the Covid 19 restrictions. Over 58 towns joined from all over the country to meet on the North Shore city of Puerto Plata. The ‘comparsas’ representing the cities from all Rep Dom provinces came: from Barahona, Bonao, or famous La Vega. Dozens more joined the parade on the Malecon, the large seafront avenue leading to the Ancient Fort. . Ages of the participants most likely 5-75 years old. Kids playing devils under heavy costumes are truly to be celebrated. Dancers joined as well and some true gymnasts for the show. You’ll notice the one climbing up a pole at an impressive height. . Enjoy the bold spirit of Latin America carnaval : irreverent and playful! The music and wipes of the devils were deafening and kicked a few directly on their softer parts ! . Spot the Tainos (indigeneous tribes) and Spanish colons inspired comparsas, the pagan devils with their wipes, contemporary political satire.

NauticEd’s FREE Sail Trim Course—including animations like this that make the concepts instantly visual - https://www.nauticed.org/sailing-courses/view/basic-sail-trim?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=T3dsLBa15XE In this animation, Grant Headifen (Global Director of Education for NauticEd) shows how a headsail twists out relative to the fairlead moving forward and back. You’ll see the fairlead aft with air spilling out at the top, then watch what happens as the fairlead moves forward: the jib sheet angle pulls down more on the leech, the leech tightens, twist comes out, and the airflow direction at the top of the sail changes. The foot loosens a little while the leech tightens—resulting in more wind power at the top. Conversely, moving the fairlead aft reduces power aloft and reduces the heeling of the boat. #sailing #sailboat #sailingschool #sailinglife

It’s the middle of winter, we’re still on the hard, and a sub-freezing cold snap has settled in—so this episode of our sailing refit looks a little different. When temperatures drop below freezing, outdoor projects grind to a halt, but refit life doesn’t stop. In this video, we show what winter boat work really looks like when you’re living between a boatyard and an apartment and doing everything you can to keep moving forward. With the help of two space heaters, Shawn heads out to the boat to tackle interior refit projects that can be done despite the cold. He works on electrical wiring, continues building the fuel polisher system, connects plumbing to the fresh water tanks, and installs pumps in the bilge—slow, careful progress in tight spaces while trying to stay warm enough to function. Meanwhile, Geri stays back at the apartment—she’s far less cold-tolerant, and skipping the boat during this deep freeze is honestly saving her sanity. Being warm, rested, and functional means she can take care of herself and stay energized for what’s ahead, instead of just enduring the cold. If you’re refitting a sailboat in cold climates, living through winter on the hard, or just curious what boat life looks like when sailing season is still months away, this episode captures the quiet, unglamorous, but necessary side of the journey. Every small task completed now brings us one step closer to launch day and getting back on the water. This video is part of our ongoing sailing and refit series, documenting the real challenges of rebuilding and preparing a cruising sailboat—one cold winter day at a time. 00:00 Snow 00:26 Intro 00:43 Channel intro 01:00 Handling the cold snap 01:57 Wiring AC panels 5:23 Wire/Cable management 06:45 Bilge pumps 07:44 Shower panels 08:25 Sink drains 08:55 Toilet controls 09:37 Hot water tank and pressure tanks 11:08 Coolant hoses 11:47 Fuel polisher 13:30 Frankenfilter 14:48 Geri’s projects 17:50 Wrap up 18:57 Like, Subscribe, Emoji, Bye 19:16 End Card ☝More about us, our adventures, and how we do all this on our website. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. In this episode, Warren tackles one of the biggest upgrades we've done on the boat, rewiring our entire nav panel, the brain of our electrical system. But living on a boat means your home is also your workshop. The salon becomes a wiring station, tools take over every surface, and there's no escape from the chaos until the job is done. Despite the temporary mess I have to live in, the guy does really amazing work. He's a jack of all trades, and honestly? I'm lucky to have him constantly making our home better and better. His skills are top notch. It's just the name of the game living on a boat—your home is the workshop until the job's done. And then... one component didn't work. Three weeks later, we're still waiting for the replacement part. So while we waited, we did what we do best...explored! Dingy adventures with black tip reef sharks, climbing trees for coconuts, unauthorized beaches (oops), and beach bonfires with friends. Because sitting around staring at a broken panel? Not really our style. This is boat life. Projects don't always go as planned, but the adventures make up for it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ⚓ Thanks for watching! Tony attacks an old gas bottle, cutting the top clean off! The keel bolts turn to steel, we take the keel box for a walk and weigh it, and the keel timber is lowered onto the keel box! This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build. These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. ► This week, we’re taking you to the British Virgin Islands for seven days of family sailing aboard a Moorings 5000 (Leopard 50). ► On the itinerary: Tortola, Cooper Island, Saba Rock, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, and Anegada… Exploring these islands and anchorages means short sails of one to three hours per day, except for a beautiful longer crossing to Anegada, a flat coral island set slightly apart from the rest of the archipelago. As for the crew, while Charlotte is already an experienced young sailor, it’s a first for Mahé and Marceau! Also on board: Aude, Joffrey, Laurie, Quentin, Pierre-Yves… and me, Maria. A true nine-person adventure, filled with time under sail, laughter at anchor, and the logistics of life as a floating tribe. ► We’ll also be sharing our sailing experience aboard the Moorings 5000: seaworthiness, cabin comfort, the layout of the convivial galley, how the outdoor spaces work for children… We’ll tell you whether this catamaran is truly well designed for family cruising. ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests!
