This week we finally get going on our circumnavigation of New Zealand fro Great barrier island, and end up all the way down in Wellington, but on the way, we stop at White Island, or Whakaari (Maori name), where 22 people tragically lost their lives in an unexpected eruption in 2019. This is a hard episode for me as I'm sure you can understand. For those that have been following us for years, I'm sure that this will come as quite a shock that we broke up some time ago. We're not even sure if it was obvious in the videos or not. Or if new viewers were even aware that we used to be a couple. But in any case talking about something so personal as a break up in a public setting like YouTube is never easy. So we had a really hard time discussing or putting it into words. As many of you have figured out our videos are a bit behind and thankfully they are as covid has made travel for everyone inconvienent including us. In this episode we land in Papua New Guinea and contemplate life, do we stay here? do we enter the zombie apocalypse that is the new Covid World? And we finally discuss our relationship. In this episode, we left Highbourne Cay to begin exploring the Exumas. On our first stop at Little Norman's Cay (aka Saddle Cay), we spent the afternoon on a beautiful sandbar and saw the biggest stingray ever. Adrienne fixes our broken hatch shade and gets a little boat bite in the process. We fended off some idiot jet skiers from a super yacht and searched for the Pirates' Lair with the OliLuki crew while hiking around Warderick Wells. After a long day of exploring, we needed to cool off in the water. Adrienne jumped in and accidentally went skinny dipping when her bikini top came off. It made Jeff happy. We've done steam bent frames for the majority of Arabella, now, in the stem and the stern, it's time to make some sawn frames. Where the bow and stern come in to the centerline timbers, the shape of the hull is fairly sharp. Steam bending frames in these areas would not be very easy nor ideal. Not only are they very short, which would make them difficult to bend, but they also would have to have some sever twist in them. Because of this, making single sawn frames for the bow and the stern were a better idea in our minds. This gave us the opportunity to test our hand at making sawn frames. Making patterns, finding timber with curved grain to cut them from and then shaping them before installing them back in their place with a different kind of bronze floor. In this video we explain our process for picking up patterns and making the frames. In the next episode we will show more of the work being done organically. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought is sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive and we need to lift it onto the dry ASAP to fix what is needed and start our refit. In this episode we took our chances and decided to lift our wrecked schooner that has NEVER BEEN LIFTED BEFORE!! Our whole refurbishing process is supposed to happen in the south of Brazil, but travelling there with all the leaks we had was quite risky so we decided to lift it.
