In this episode we get a professional rigger and surveyor to guide us through the process of tensioning our rig after repairing the broken bulkheads on our Lagoon 450 catamaran. He advises us that the worst possible thing to do on a catamaran is to over tension the rig, as the results are catastrophic, as we have seen many times before on other multihulls, and may even have contributed slightly towards the failure of our bulkheads, however seeing as hundreds of other lagoon 450's have broken bulkheads, it appears that the underlying issue is deeper than just the rigging... An easy way to find the source of your problem without shelling out a lot of money to an expert is to get out your multimeter for troubleshooting boat electrical problems. A multimeter is one of the most versatile electrical tools you can own. BoatUS Magazine editor Mark Corke shows how to use a multimeter to save yourself money by tracking down faulty wiring, testing battery voltage, and calculating power consumption on your boat. A multimeter can be used to measure three things on a boat: DC current (amps), resistance (ohms), and voltage. Current refers to the rate of flow of electricity running through the wires in your boat. Think of it like a garden hose, where current is the amount of water coming out. When a current is interrupted by something like a bad connection or improperly sized wiring causing a device to stop working, or at least stop working as it should, this is known as resistance — like a kink in a hose. And voltage is somewhat similar to the amount of water pressure in the hose. The more pressure, in theory, the more power the current can produce. Welcome to Part 2 of the fiberglassing saga! We continue with the epoxy and fiberglass repairs of our Beneteau 49 sailboat. Last week we finished the glassing in the forward cabin and now we tackle the huge job of the main bilge area. It goes extremely well... with the layup schedule and other pressing time constraints, we aren't able to use peel ply, but instead just knock it all out in one big layup! It was absolutely nuts. If you've read this far, thanks! You'll probably also be one of the people who notices all the white spots and blotches - that is not dry glass or delaminated glass. It is silica thickened epoxy that we used to level out the surface in prep for the fiberglass, giving it the best chance of a perfect bond! The epoxy we're using causes the fiberglass to go very translucent when wet and the silica can still be seen in some places through 10+ layers of new glass! Luckily it wasn’t an epic failure, and nothing was ruined, just a very good reminder to set reasonable expectations. And speaking of expectations…that is what has led us to the boat show.  We are itching to get a peek at a now 3-year-old HH50 Ocean Cruiser.  How has it held up?  What’s the wear and tear look like?  What problems or issues has the owner run into?  These are all things we’re eager to know. I believe it’s the first Ocean Cruiser HH ever built and will be a much more realistic expectation of what our HH44 OC will resemble.  Because we didn’t go for the Sport Cruiser with the carbon mast and daggerboards.  So we shall see… ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. We leave beautiful Cayo Rico and finally get in to Cayo Largo, Cuba. We check in and have a problem with all the fresh groceries that we have brought in. The Agriculture Department want us to throw them out or can we bribe them to allow us to keep them? Our drone is secured too because drones are not allowed in Cuba. Cuba is still an amazing place for us but a bit backward when it comes to banking or getting internet but you don't go to Cuba for that...you go there for the people, scenery and the underwater world and fishing. We decided to try our luck at getting some lobster and hell yea we ate like KINGS! Feelin' pretty high it's nice to catch a little of our own food for once unlike our fishing escapades. From Allan's we pointed the sailboat south and dropped the hook at Powell for some hiking and paddling. Of course both spots are perfect to test our Drone flying skills as well. The Annapolis Boat Show is one of the largest and most prestigious events of its kind on the planet.  On paper, it’s a chance to check out the latest and greatest gadgets and tour some shiny new boats, but for us, it’s the one time of the year that a collection of our favorite people in the universe who are normally scattered all around the world can all be found in one place.  There would be lots of YouTubers, lots of shenanigans, lots of alcohol, and lots of incredible moments shared with the people who have made this entire journey possible, you guys, the Delos Tribe. The whole experience was pretty surreal and humbling in so many ways.  In 2010 I posted my first YouTube video about crossing the Pacific Ocean.  It was more or less a glorified home movie to let my friends and family know that I was still alive on my 18 month sabbatical from work.  But somehow, my 18 month sabbatical turned into a 13 year trip around the world, and my home movie evolved into an entire way of life. Never in a million years did I expect to have hundreds of thousands of people following our journey and supporting us at every step of the way.  But above all, the most unbelievable part was learning how the simple act of sharing our story would inspire so many others to build the life they always dreamed of.  Meeting with the Delos Tribe we heard stories of hope, challenges, loss, triumph, and everything in between.  And learning face to face what an impact our journey has had on their lives is an experience that I will always hold close to my heart, and it’s what inspires us to keep going and keep sharing it all with you.
