It was certainly ‘one of those days’ today out in Cagliari as Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli began the stepping of their mast on their LEQ12 and a “simple mistake”, as Max Sirena described it, saw the mast slip from the crane and crash onto both the boat and the dockside. Section 41. Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. The cameras are supplied and identical for all Recon Units. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away. It's a raw, unedited view of the never before seen behind-the-scenes development of a team and their boat to win the oldest trophy in international sports. #AC37Recon #AmericasCup #Barcelona2024
The American Magic programme continued at pace today out in a blustery Pensacola Bay that served up consistent breeze peaking at 16 knots and 2-3 feet swells that Patriot made light work of. With the helming combination of Tom Slingsby and Paul Goodison, the American team representing the New York Yacht Club had Patriot on rails from the beginning of the session executing perfect self-take-offs and hitting speeds approaching 40 knots. Speaking afterwards, Head of the Sail Design Department, Juan Meseguer, was buzzing with the day’s session, saying: “It was an incredible day for us, we spent a lot of time on the water, tested a lot of things we wanted to test and the new systems that we have implemented were tested hard. I think X-Power has got off to a good start with this boat and judging by the drawings of the fleet they intend on building the future looks good for X-Power which has been created from the well known X-Yachts of Denmark. I see all the X-Yachts trends in this power boat and the same high quality touches throughout. I believe X-Power have managed to build a boat that would appeal to both Yachtie and Motor Boater which is quite an achievement. Not only is this boat doing all the right things she just looks right from every angle. When it looks good it often goes good and from what I learnt today I can say "She goes good"! Enjoy Dan Jones

As observers and interested spectators, we’ve been lucky enough to be back-seat passengers on the roller-coaster ride of the Emirates Team New Zealand learning curve throughout the commissioning of the AC40. But now that it’s an LEQ12, (we think), the grind of straight-line data collection and mode discovery becomes the dominant part of the long training sessions and today was just one of those days out on a beautiful early summer Auckland Harbour. Stealing a march through hard work and grind is something of the Kiwi way and who better to interview, to get an insight into this winning psyche, than Tony Rae – one of the original Black Magic team from 1995 Section 41. NOAA is phasing out old raster navigation charts, which are digital scans of paper charts. Vector electronic navigational charts, or ENCs, are taking their place. ENCs are now what you'll use whether plotting a course from your desktop computer or on your chartplotter. BoatUS Magazine's Lenny Rudow shows you how to access and use NOAA's online ENCs, teaches you what the various numbers and symbols mean (and how to find out more), how to change units of measurement, and how to measure the distance of your route or between waypoints. This day started for me at 3am! Such are how the difficult days of the sailing life go. But making the most of it, I got up and got exploring! There was soo much to see and soo much to do. From running on the beach chasing the sunrise. To exploring the massive ruins of an abandoned hotel. To then spearfishing with loads of sharks! This day, was full on! . . In this episode of Factory Fridays, boats.com travels to Rome to visit the Canados Shipyard and see where over 800 Canados Yachts have been built. Series host Marilyn DeMartini joins Michel Karsenti, President and CEO of Canados Yachts to learn about the rich history of the company and tour the manufacturing facility. Canados, which is a contraction of the Italian phrase Cantieri Navali di Ostia, was founded in 1946, on an ex-hydroplane base. The Italian Navy and Coast Guard commissioned the first vessels Canados ever built. In the seven decades since the company constructed its first yacht, Canados has remained at the cutting ege of boat building with innovative techniques and technologies, including emplying composite construction, vacuum infusion and utilizing Nomex, Kevlar and many other materials used by leading companies in the aerospace sector. Canados builds the Gladiator line and the Oceanic line, in addition to the namesake Canados line. The Canados Gladiator 411 Carbon Series is a fully reliable, problem-free, 100+ mph 41’ monohull. Available in two length dimensions, the Oceanic line consists of the 76’ or 81’ GT. She is available in multiple engine configuration offering enviable performance of 22-knots to 30-knots top speed. ▶ View Canados Yachts for sale: https://www.boats.com/boats-for-sale/?make=canados ▶ See All Factory Fridays Episodes: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsiC-0C78AkGgDO4BFGKFO0VJrTR1sZc3 #boats #canados #factoryfridays #howthingswork #boatbuilding #yachts #boatlife #yachtlife ▶ Subscribe To Channel: http://youtube.com/c/boatsdotcom?sub_confirmation=1
After a few days off, the Alinghi Red Bull Racing Team came back out of their temporary shed at the Barcelona Nautic Center today with Dean Barker jetting in to start putting the pedal to the floor as the light-weather that has dogged the Mediterranean for a week finally broke, producing winds in the upper bracket of safe sailing. Nils Theunink confirmed what the recon teams saw on the water saying: “The boat feels lighter and more controllable and the mainsail looks so much better.” Clearly a big tick to the Alinghi Red Bull Racing engineers and sail designers who have been slaving over the design and build for months, since almost the start of the programme Section 41. It was a very early start today for the New York Yacht Club American Magic Team out in Pensacola as they elected to capitalise on an early morning breeze that was forecast to shut-down by lunchtime. Cooper Dressler elaborated: “Today was a big win in the power scheme of things because all of our gear survived, and the mechanical systems are working well. Once we had all four positions with cyclors, the power demands of the boat – we were able to meet those. One of our guys on the team said it perfectly today that ‘the more oil you produce, the more the boat will take’ but you’re always going to be compromised when you produce oil by human power so that’s going to be a big factor in how you design the boat and how you optimise the sail controls going forward.” Section 41. They may still be in the commissioning phase of their LEQ12, but Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli’s design and engineering teams are more than keen to capture every take-off and monitor everything from ride-height to cant angle to foil cavitation to loads being exerted all over the boat. Everywhere you looked today on this most fabulous and eye-catching Italian test platform, the ubiquitous GoPro’s, ride-height sensors, load sensors and perma-cameras were peeking out of the hull and rig to capture a myriad of data as the team went through a thorough session in the Cagliari afternoon of almost five hours. Andrea Tesei, a second timer in the America’s Cup having debut for LRPP in Auckland 2021 and widely recognised as one of the best 49er sailors on the planet, is one of the top foil trimmers in the Cup world and he had this to say about the session: “We’re still going through some commissioning but today was the first day sailing when we ticked-off all the manoeuvres – quite a few tacks, gybes and racing round-ups. The boat is starting to behave well, and all the systems are doing what we want so it was a really positive day.” Section 41. In barca è diverso! Diving into the sea of technology, pretty quickly you can get swamped. Design teams warn about the dangers of haring down blind alleyways, of programmes being de-railed by the sight of what others are doing and the history of the America’s Cup, even the most recent history, bears testament to those that are the real innovators and those that are trailing. So, it’s interesting to see that sailing style and technique is being focussed on by the current holders, Emirates Team New Zealand, in their early development phase as they work through tweaks and nuances of the AC40 – or should we call it an LEQ12 now? Nathan Outteridge confirmed what we saw on the water today: “As we go through our development phase, we’re starting to think about how we sail. We’ve come up with a few different ways that the four of us can sail this boat, whether you’re doing things on the windward or leeward side and who’s doing what in manoeuvres. We’ve just been experimenting and today was really interesting because some of the things we thought would be easy to do were a little trickier than we thought and some things that we thought would were quite hard, felt natural Section 41. 80 Sunreef Power Catmaran [KOKOMO] Specs + Photos: https://hubs.ly/Q01rgS630 Location: Cannes Yachting Festival Price: Please Inquire (Sorry, we know that's annoying. We're working on getting approval ASAP) Tony Smith // P: +1 404-805-9819 // TS@DenisonYachting.com Built and equipped for extended voyages the 80 Sunreef Power Kokomo is home to a family of 5. This custom 80-footer fitted with twin 1200 HP engines was designed to provide comfort, safety and luxury for private navigation plans including exploration of the Mediterranean and the Caribbean Islands. Kokomo’s relaxing décor relies on light colors and natural fabrics. The yacht’s Owners opted for an interior design reflecting the atmosphere of a tropical beach with beige tones, eucalyptus veneers & linen upholstery. Kokomo’s main deck saloon is a warm and welcoming retreat with plenty of light-filled living and lounging space. To the portside, her galley features full-height fridges, voluminous storage all around, and top-quality amenities. The galley’s custom-designed kitchen island conceals a pop-up rotating 55” Television and provides a great spot for serving drinks. To starboard, the lounging space offers a large sofa and custom-designed coffee tables matching the yacht’s beach-inspired décor. Towards the bow, Kokomo’s saloon features a dining space with seating for eight as well as another lounging area with an L-shaped sofa. Her 4-cabin layout includes a generous master stateroom fitted with a king-size bed, a sofa, and dressing as well as a vast ensuite bathroom. Kokomo also features one VIP and two big guest cabins all continuing the relaxed decor of the yacht with the same light color scheme and rattan finishes. Kokomo’s aft cockpit profits from the yacht’s generous beam, offering a large, centrally positioned sofa with a modular backrest. Beneath the sofa, the catamaran’s garage conceals a big jet ski, water toys, and a refueling station. The hydraulic aft platform provides plenty of space to store and launch the tender but also serves as a swim platform when lowered. The cockpit also features a large dining table, a daybed, ample storage, a day head, and separate access to the crew quarters. Her flybridge has an open layout providing numerous seating and lounging options along with a wet bar with a barbeque and a dining area. Kokomo’s bow terrace is accessed straight from the main saloon and includes a fantastic lounging spot with panoramic views. 0:00 Intro 0:41 Swim Platform 1:32 Foredeck 4:00 Cockpit 5:16 Salon 6:21 Helm 8:22 Galley 10:07 Starboard Guest Accommodation 10:40 Owner's suite 12:26 Port Side Forward Guest Accommodation 13:07 Port Side Aft Guest Accommodation 13:46 Flybridge 17:26 Outro Musicbed SyncID: MB01C5V7OUI4GUG

Onboard today was the helming duo of AC36, Jimmy Spithill and Francesco Bruni, supported by Umberto Molineris and Andrea Tesei, who really got the boat going in a very slight sea state and hit speeds just above the 30-knot mark. Speaking afterwards, the ever-affable Bruni was delighted with the progress saying: “It was a very nice day in Cagliari, good sea breeze, on the light side with anything between 6-10knots. It was the first day that we did some foiling manoeuvres, foiling gybes and foiling tacks, and we’re really making some good steps forward. The boat was behaving very well with all the systems working so the team is very excited today.” Section 41.

Watch Part I Test Drive here - https://youtu.be/Jf1ViYM7SH8 If you are a couple looking for a capable shaft drive diesel cruiser to spend the summer aboard then look seriously at this Nimbus 305. This is an all weather style of boat that will do a good distance at 14kts speed and keep you comfortable in most conditions. I could imagine myself spending the Swedish Midsommar exploring the islands around Stockholm on this boat and then cruising it all the way to France via the English Channel or the French Canal route to spend the next season in the Med. I could also see this as an amazing boat to cruise the Pacific North West up to Alaska, imagine that! You really could happily live aboard a boat like this as a couple especially, and for less time if you are dragging around a few kids. https://www.sportsmarine.co.nz/ - Aussie & Kiwi Dealers https://nimbus.se/ - The Brand SUPPORT my PATREON - https://www.patreon.com/dansboatlife SUPPORT via PayPal - https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/dansboatlife?country.x=AU&locale.x=en_AU My Website - https://www.dansboatlife.com/ Join me for this test drive around Queenstown in New Zealand which was filmed in the middle of winter back in June. On this day we were getting considerable wind gusts and changes of direction which made it challenging for me to fly the drone but with the diesel heater and windscreen wipers going we were comfortable as onboard the Nimbus. Welcome back marine memories here on the channel. Join us on a journey down Hurst Spit ending up at the famous Hurst castle. The castle itself was one of the most advanced artillery fortresses and was built in 1544 by King Henry VIII as a means of protecting the solent. In the 17th century the castle was used as a prison, claiming King Charles the 1st as one of its prisoners. It was later strengthened during the 19th and 20th centuries and played an important role in defending the western Solent from invasion threats from the Napoleonic wars through to the second world war. The original castle is part of a chain of forts all along the southern coastline (as far along as Cornwall) to protect the country.
