After touring the Majesty 72 in Dubai she has now arrived and operating a successful charter business in Sydney and all along the East Coast of Australia. We just replaced our saildrive at the beginning of summer, and found recently that it was bonded to the keel and the AC grounding wires, which possibly also makes it part of the broader AC grounding system. We decided to isolate the saildrive from the bonding/ground system, and leave just the keel as the grounding point, and in addition to that, we added a galvanic isolator in line near the keel bolt that everything is grounded to. This will mean that there is no longer a bond between the lead keel and the aluminum saildrive, or our saildrive and those boats around us (including the fully carbon one next slip over). It will be isolated with its own anode. The only other metal in the water is the keel and that is also now effectively isolated with the galvanic isolator. Our hope is that this will still be a safe method of grounding, maintain the bonding among most of the elements of the boat (rigging/push pit/bow pulpit/keel/etc.), while keeping the only two metals under water electrically independent.

Fake or Real? A Spares Nightmare...... We look at the spares market for filters & oil after a hard lesson learned. Helping David with a filter change the other day became a nightmare when the fuel filter would not fit. Luckily I had two extra filters on board of the same type. Both his Bosch filters appeared to have a manufacturing fault. A couple of days later I was checking our spares locker and found two more Bosch filters that were also faulty. Doing a little research I found that these filters were fake. We only paid a couple of pounds for them each but for almost the same money we could have had genuine Mann or Perkins Filters. I knew that fake oil was an issue in Turkey and had checked with Castrol how to check the 18ltrs we got in the spring, but, oil, filters and other fake parts are on the increase as we all seek to get the best value. We finally fit the DP switch for the AGM charger and I finally find the bit of music I was looking for. Welcome to our channel.
