Renee and Lynette have sailed over 30,000 nautical miles aboard their 27 foot steel sailboat "Tekaihau" since pushing off from New Zealand. They recently pulled into Dutch Sint Maarten in the Caribbean, sold Tekaihau, and bought a much larger sailboat, a 1968 Moody Halberdier 36. They renamed her "Bubbly" and are now refitting her to continue on their circumnavigation back to New Zealand. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain (1835-1910) The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (published 1876) is a very well-known and popular story concerning American youth. On our 43' Gulfstar we had some rot in a bulkhead that appeared to be from a leaking chain plate many years ago. The Chain plate had been fixed but the bulkhead had soft spots in it. As we continue our complete refit of our boat, we decided to use Git Rot Penetrating epoxy to essentially core the bulkhead with epoxy making it solid again. As we prepared for the repair (debating between replacing the portion of the bulkhead or another repair method) we found information about using Penetrating Epoxy, but not real videos that showed a job as large as ours. The American Youth Sailing Force volunteered their time at the America's Cup World Series in San Francisco this August. It gave the guys an opportunity to see behind the scenes at an America's Cup regatta and to get up close to the AC45's and the people connected to the campaigns. Everyone was excited to be able to talk to the sailors who are competing for the Cup and to ask them about sailing the AC 45's. Watching the boats and sailors strengthened their commitment to being in the Red Bull Youth America's Cup next summer. Right after the World Series AYSF continued training on small fast boats competing in the International 18' skiff regatta and the Rolex Big Boat Series where they sailed on the 1/3 scale model of the AC72's - the SL33 - which they described as "wicked fast".
