“So our first night at sea didn’t really go according to plan,” said Team Malizia’s Cole Brauer (USA). “We knew we had taken a risk pretty much as soon as we had left Monaco. We had talked about how we were going to soak low and get on the other side of this low pressure that was moving northeast. “We took the risk by sailing less distance – which made us look really good in the beginning, but when the low passed us the guys who were off to the west of us got the pressure before we did. The Ocean Race Europe’s relentless schedule continues, and while it was a party atmosphere in Nice, for the sailors and shore crews there was hardly any down time between the finish of Leg 3 and the start of Leg 4 on Sunday. The yachts were beautifully lined up along the harbour front for the passers-by and hats off to the logistics team for getting the event village set up so quickly at each of the stopovers. They’ll all now be hot footing it to Genova, Italy for the Leg 4 finish on Wednesday. The previous leg was described as brutal, exhausting, and the most intensive yet, but it’s unlikely this one is being any easier as the sweltering heat continues. A loop around Corsica, through the gap between the island and Sardinia, back up north along the Tuscan coast, and then around a couple of marks to finish on Wednesday 3rd September. Numa situação extrema com tempestade em alto mar sua vida depende da determinação e competência da tripulação. Na hora de enfrentar uma situação real seu conhecimento e coragem são colocados a prova. Dentre muitas situações que já vivi em três anos morando a bordo. A última travessia que fizemos de Bocas del Toro a San Blas posso colocar como exemplo. Há cem milhas de San Blas ficamos sem motor, entupiu a entrada de água salgada que em um motor Náutico é o que esfria a água que esfria o motor. E o que fazer!? Como íamos atracar numa Marina que não conhecemos dentre corais e pedras.. Um lugar estreito pra entrar, muitas ondas e vento. E o que fizemos!? Chegamos somente à vela, ancoramos na entrada da Marina há uma milha de distância pedimos ajuda pelo rádio e um bote da Marina foi nos buscar com uma pequena lancha, atamos um cabo na proa do veleiro e ele nos arrastou até a Marina. Poderíamos fazer loucuras e entrar somente a vela, mas seria uma manobra arriscada, sem segurança e sem estar num ambiente controlado, poderia sim dar certo ou não! Claro que o reboque teve um custo, mas comparar com o custes um acidente com a embarcação, nos faz escolher não correr esse rosco. O melhor capitão não é o mais louco ou inconsequente, e sim aquele que mede os riscos antes de tomar uma decisão. E decide pela segurança da embarcação e da tripulação. Em outras palavras: Um bom capitão não tem que provar suas habilidades há ninguém, porque ele sabe o que é capaz de fazer!

Hace mucho tiempo que tenía ganas de mejorar el aspecto de la cubierta de mi barco con Deckmarine y el detonante ha sido porque unas placas solares quemaron el gelcoat de la misma. Los llamé y en breve tiempo me visitaron a bordo. Me preguntaron qué necesitaba, qué colores quería y si quería algún grabado especial. Mi gusto y el de mi mujer era el de dejar un aspecto clásico en el barco, por lo que decidimos dejar un color y textura de teca con un calafateado negro. Tomaron medidas, hicieron plantillas y se lo llevaron a sus instalaciones. Allí, lo meten en sus máquinas de control numérico y lo que sale es simplemente magia. Para ellos esto no es nada, están haciendo maravillas todos los días, trabajan para un sinfín de astilleros, náuticas y clientes directos. Tú puedes ser uno de ellos. A $1000 series Mastervolt technician visits restored the Lithium bank and verified that no damage was done and the cells were healthy. Fortunately, all other systems came online and we were able to depart St Tropez after 5 days. Nicole and I then had an exhilarating sail in 30 kt winds to Antibes on the tail end of a Mistral system. Then on to Beaulieu Sur Mer. Our favorite town in southern France.

After some prep work and confusing wiring, the Crane finally arrives and Steps our Mast (removes our Mast) We are relieved to be able to remove those broken side stays and back stays as well as start the work to replace the old tricolours (sailing lights) on top of the mast, fit a better anchor light and lots more, while we are waiting for our furling system to arrive from the UK to be able to complete all the rigging work that needs doing! Pete and Eve had the great honour to crew on the Whaling Boat "Nossa Senhora de Fatima" on the largest Whale Boat Sailing Regatta of the year. Here a few words from our helmsman @ConradHumphreys “To sail in these incredible boats is a privilege and to be part of this wonderful crew is something I will never forget. 30 teams start the final race of the season here in Lajes do Pico. We raise the sails, sheet in and try to find the best route towards the first mark under the lee of Pico Mountain. Our start is perfect, and we manage to get into clear wind. A few good tacks on wind shifts and we round the first mark in the lead. It’s a perfect start, but sailing these boats in strong gusty winds requires a great team and it’s not easy. After a few little mistakes, the second place boat is gaining fast and almost passes us. We round the final mark just ahead and then a huge gust of wind powers us to the finish line. At 17:00 sharp, our crew took a good start under sunny skies and very light east-southeasterly winds of around 8 knots. Racing upwind along the beautiful backdrop of the Côte d’Azur. “The Monaco fly-by was a big moment for us, we were super excited about it,” said Boris after passing the gate in fourth place. “Monaco has been a great partner for nearly 10 years and will continue to be in the future, and is also a strong ally for Ocean protection. The Principality is very invested in this cause, not only through the Yacht Club but also the Prince Albert II Foundation. Sailing past Monaco was really iconic and a close call for us!
