I decide to haul the boat in Pompano Beach for a few months until the baby is born and I can return and do a proper clean out and temporary refit to get it to Jacksonville. Update – Emergency Situation Alex Thomson and Guillermo Altadill, skippers of yacht HUGO BOSS in the Transat Jacques Vabre set off their emergency beacon this afternoon at 13.25UT. The Spanish Coastguard was informed and sent a rescue helicopter to their location 82 nautical miles from the Spanish coast. Both Alex and Guillermo were rescued from the location by helicopter and are on their way back to land. HUGO BOSS incurred some structural damage earlier this week forcing Alex and Guillermo to stop racing. The Skippers had made a repair and were on route to A Coruna where the technical team were waiting to meet them. After sailing for a period of 36 hours in high seas and strong winds, the structure of the boat deteriorated further and the boat started to take on water and sink. The technical team are in A Coruna, Spain awaiting further information from the coast guard. Managing Director Stewart Hosford expresses ‘Our first concern is with Alex and Guillermo and when they are safely on the ground we will address the situation with our IMOCA 60 and begin the salvage process. Pour ses nouvelles aventures Tanguy de Lamotte est aux commandes d'un nouveau voilier Initiatives-Coeur plus performant. Construit en 2006, il a déjà deux tours du monde à son actif. Tanguy a lui même supervisé des modifications de la coque et la préparation du bateau. Il est prêt pour partir à l'assaut des mers du globe. Le départ de la Transat Jacques Vabre de 7h30 à 7h45 Tanguy et Samantha vont embarquer à bord d'Initiatives-Coeur et larguer les amarres pour rejoindre l'écluse. Ils seront accompagnés de l'équipe technique qui doit régler les derniers préparatifs jusqu'au départ. A partir de 9h Les bateaux vont circuler au large du Havre en attendant le départ. Après 6 jours d'une course haletante et éprouvante, Samantha Davies, toujours souriante et épanouie dans son élément, dresse un premier bilan du début de la Transat Jacques Vabre Cette Transat Jacques Vabre nous a imposée des conditions rudes ces 6 derniers jours. C'est la première fois que j'ai une minute de répit. Pour être honnête, je devrais être en train de dormir mais je profite plutôt d'un instant de « calme » avec un café (what else ?!) devant l'ordinateur en attendant le téléchargement des fichiers météo. Well, this TJV has thrown us some tough conditions over the last 6 days, this is the first time I have a minute to spare, to be honest I should be sleeping but instead I am enjoying a moment of "calm" with a coffee (what else?!) at the computer, waiting for some weather to download. The relentless conditions take their toll on body and boat. I am still wearing the same clothes as I was last Sunday, hair has not been brushed, only the basics like brushing teeth have been possible. Tonight things should calm down slightly, but that just mean more work for us: bigger sails and hours at the helm to keep it fast. Plus a few jobs on the job-list that need to be done. Racing is great, the others do not make mistakes and the pace is hard-core, we are proud to be up near the front of the fleet, sad to see so many of our friends forced to head back to land. To win, first you have to finish, never forget. The route is still long and we are happy to be out here. Gilles Lamiré et Yvan Bourgnon ont notifié leur abandon à la Direction de Course de la Transat Jacques Vabre. Les deux skippers du Multi 50 La French Tech-Rennes Saint Malo sont entrés en collision avec un container. Le trimaran est très endommagé mais la situation reste sous contrôle des deux marins qui sont en bonne santé. Yvan Bourgnon : « Il manque 5 à 6 mètres sur le flotteur bâbord et le flotteur tribord est endommagé sur un mètre. La difficulté consiste maintenant à ramener le bateau en s’appuyant sur un seul flotteur. Notre routeur météo travaille sur une route idéale pour rentrer dans les meilleures conditions possibles.
