2016 Tour de France à la Voile ended today in Nice with a last day of stadium racing. The 24 teams were divided in three groups based on last night overall rankings to sail three Finals : Gold, Silver, and Bronze. In light wind conditions, the 18 boats of group Silver and Bronze sailed two races, countring double points for final ranking. Then at 3.30pm, the six top Diam24 sailed on single Gold Final. Each day, several boats will be equipped with on-board devices for sound and image link-ups. In this way the media and spectators will be plunged into the thick of the action out on the racetrack. Since 1978, thousands of sailors have discovered the French coast, got pushed back by the Channel currents, asked their position to Brittany's fishermen and heeled under the Mistral wind. The reason why the Brewin Dolphin Commodores’ Cup stands as a pinnacle event within the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s sizeable calendar was made abundantly evident during its 13th running in late July. The club’s biennial flagship event for three boat teams with Corinthian crews is a supreme test, held on the navigationally complex waters of the Solent and the Channel, and featuring a range of race courses – windward-leewards, round the cans, an overnight offshore race and a race around the Isle of Wight, that on this occasion took place in sun and a 20-25 knot southwesterly. It is also something of a rarity in modern grand prix yachting – an event that lasts a whole week. And to win requires a team effort: All three boats in each team must pull their weight. Worthy winner on this occasion was France Blue comprising Eric de Turkheim’s A13, Teasing Machine, the Prietz family’s Ker 39, GOA and yacht designer Daniel Andrieu on his Sun Fast 3200, Cifraline 4. Part 3 of our trip sailing trip from Kemah (Near Houston, TX) to New Orleans. We did this trip with the 2 and 9 year old and it worked our pretty well. See where we anchored in the Mermantau River, checking the anchor set from the dinghy, traveling to Morgan City and where we stayed there in the Berwick traffic district and then headed to Houma LA where we stayed at a great little municipal marina that is a great respite for this part of the trip. We have always loved the Formosa, bought one (on a bit of a whim) late in 2014, moved aboard this one right away and started to do our refit while living board.
