Unspoiled, remote, yet bewitchingly accessible aboard The Seven Seas, the 2 dozen islands East of Flores are now recognized as one of Asia's top ten dive destinations. This area ranges from the Eastern tip of Flores itself, in the West, to the Island of Wetar in the East of the Nusa Tenggara Timor island chain. Not only World Class muck diving at our new sites in Lembata and Pantar, not only the classical walls and coral reefs that made this area famous, but now also plenty of high voltage diving on rocky corners, islets and pinnacles along the Southern shores and in the straits between these islands. Highly diverse habitats, with hard coral dominated reefs, pinnacles and walls covered in combinations of hard and soft corals and other invertebrates, various types of sandy habitats (volcanic black, reef white), sea grass beds and even some blue water mangroves! Great fish life on some of the rocky pinnacles and promontories in the South as well as on some of the new reef and wall dives that we have explored in the North. Last but not least some of the very best cetacean diversity and abundance all around and right through this area which forms a migrating and feeding area for several great whales (notably sperm and blue whales) as well as a preferred habitat from many species of dolphins that occur here in staggering numbers. This area like no other lends itself beautifully for a day of whale watching, whether that is close inshore around the deep volcanic slopes in search of blue whales or out wide where the sperm whales are diving! Diving the Southern sites of Komodo National Park, and surrounding islands, has always been very exciting and unusual. Rocky canyons and pinnacles are heavily encrusted with marine invertebrate life, with lots of color and plenty of fish. Night diving without a doubt is one of the highlights here, lots of critters and far superior to any of the sites in the north. The only problem, during the "traditional" Komodo season from May through September, was that most of the time the water has been cold and murky and when you got back to the boat, your towel had been blown off the deck by the South easterlies. But we are now going to show you the south side as you have never seen it before, and during the time that you should be there, during the Northwest Monsoon! From October to May, this is the time of the year when it's all different and this is when the South is the Best! During the Northwest season, everything gets turned around and upside down in Komodo. Coquille River Falls is located in Coos County, Oregon. The drive there is very nice, but the road has a lot of damage to it. Watch out for fallen rocks and pot holes. The hike to the falls is down hill and pretty easy. If you want to get up close to the falls, you must first do some climbing over some rocks, but nothing too difficult. There is a way to get to the top part of the falls. The path is kinda sketchy ... at one point you can either walk across a fallen tree over large boulders in the creek, or you can climb over the boulders themselves. both are doable. All together this is a beautiful hike that the whole family will enjoy! Sometimes it is hard to imagine that this was just a couple of months ago. Draken and her crew have been through storms on the North Atlantic Ocean. What an achievement, sailing from Norway, to Shetland Islands, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland - just like the Vikings did a 1000 years ago, and into the St Lawrence Seaway, trough the locks and into the Great Lakes. She made it, it is a real modern Viking voyage.
