I was really lucky to be able to take a walk around the Hallberg Rassy production line with Pär Öhrbom in Sweden.. It was amazing to see these world class blue water crusiers in various stages of completion. Huge thanks again. If i win the lotto, i'll be back! ---------------------------------------- https://www.hallberg-rassy.com/company/company-history/ ''In our modern time when boat building has not been spared series building or mass production, it is good to know that the Hallberg-Rassy yard existed in the days when boat building still meant wood and individual boats. In view of this we have specialized, from the earliest days, in comfortable sailing boats suitable for longer voyages. The company history started with Harry Hallberg back in 1943.'' ----------------------------------------

The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel. Boat building with plywood is a relatively easy and cost-effective way to produce a strong, monocoque-style boat hull. These videos aim to show the way in which I go about it. Thank you! Tony
So we found a boat that will fit in our garage, for $1000. This smaller boat will let us learn how to before we try our hand at larger vessels. I get to work on the mechanics, Danielle gets to make it look good. Follow along as we restore this 2004 Bayliner Bowrider 175 breathing new life into this old boat. Yes, we have been told a boat is a hole in the water to throw money into, but so is everything else you own. Once this boat is restored we plan to take expand our Explore Florida to only places you can get to with a boat. This is also part of a bigger dream we have that we will reveal later. Day one of owning this boat and the to-do list is growing. If you have any ideas we would love to hear them. This boat needs a ton of work after years of neglect. Don't know if we made the right choice getting a 2004 Bayliner Bowrider 175 boat that needed this much work to restore. Right now we know the Mercruiser 3.0L has a stuck valve, the floor needs a lot of work, the wiring is a mess, etc. We are just going to take the boat restore project of this 2004 Bayliner Bowrider 175 one day at a time. Took us about 2 hours to take the head off this boat engine for a Mercruiser 3.0 Liter engine in a 2004 Bayliner 175 Bowrider. The head did have a valve that was stuck, so we are going to have to get that machined, but I was really happy with the condition of all the parts as we took this apart. The Mercruiser 3.0L seems to have scare-free cylinders that you could barely hang your nail on. Still worried cause of the big jug of oil on the boat. If this engine gets a new head and then there is a ring issue on the piston or the engine was overheated, we are going to have some issues. Beneteau 38.1 in 25 knot winds with gusts to 32 knots. She handles like a dream. When everyone was making like a race to get into port the Beneteau was screaming like a dream on the open ocean. A performance vessel for sure.
Today we left Shroud Cay in The Bahamas to head further south in The Exumas. Our plan is to sail to the south end of Hawksbill Cay, and then motor through a narrow cut that will lead us to Little Cistren Cay where we are planning on spending the next couple of days. The cut ended up having a really strong current flowing, pushing us out with the tide making steering difficult. There were also large rocks and shallow reefs that weren't clearly charted making it hard to know where to go. We decided to turn around and anchor at Hawksbill Cay so we could reevaluate the chart and our options. We had some spare time while waiting for slack tide, so we took the opportunity to explore Hawksbill Cay while we were there. Afterwords when we were ready to head on our way, we found that the key would not work in the ignition due to the saltwater in the cockpit during that awful storm we were in, back in February! Randall got to work and quickly fixed our problem. Storm Video: ~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzGi1kxxWe0&t=375s We were able to motor through the "Sketchy Cut" without any problems, but it was still very difficult to navigate around the large rocks and shallow reefs, and it required our full attention. We made it to Little Cistren Cay just in time for another perfect Bahamas sunset. *********************************************************************** THANK YOU for watching our videos and for SUBSCRIBING to our YouTube channel! Keeldragger (Dana 24) and Ohana (Cal 27-2) caravan from Dana Point to Avalon to Oceanside and back to Dana Point. This is day 2 -- Avalon to Oceanside. Under threat of a Small Craft Advisory, we make our way towards Oceanside. Winds are light but we are expecting a big shift and 15+ knots in the afternoon to carry us to our next destination. We have a brief, professional encounter with the Orange County Sherriff's Department Homeland Security Division along the way.

All of our sailboat repair and maintenance blogs are now hosted on our dedicated maintenance channel, MOTHERSHIP MAINTENANCE Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/c/mothershipmaintenance An edited version of this video is now hosted there. Scrubbing the Mould (Mold - sorry USA!) from the fresh water tanks of our boat - Urgh! These maintenance video blogs aren't to show anyone HOW to do a repair or replacement job - they're just how WE did it with the equipment, resources, tools, information and skills available at the time. Some systems are unique to our type of boat - Amel Super Maramu - or some of you may know it as the SV Delos Boat.. yes it's the same make and model! So please use the comment section below to add any expert advice or experiences so we can all benefit and save money and time by repairing and maintaining our own equipment. TRANSCRIPT We've opened the water inspectionhatches just to take a quick look inside the tank and to our horror it was covered in mould (mold). Now, we've opened up a can of worms because we found that was three inspection hatches in three different compartments of the water tank and to get to all three we've got to move the dishwasher from under here we're going to remove the pan rack here and worst of all we've got to remove this freezer unit which is completely plumbed into the compressor and everything else. And there're screws everywhere, there're screws under the pan rack, there're screws under the floorboards there're screws on the side and there were even a couple of screws fibreglass in on this side nest to the compressor now Amels are quite unusual they've got the water tanks actually housed in the keel here and it's in three parts but luckily each part has got its own separate access hatch all of the water has been stored in this three-part tank and the keel bolts actually fit in through the bottom of the tank. So finally we took all of the screws out and we still couldn't get it out but it turns out it's just so tightly jammed in we've had to revert to a bit more brute force and jimmy the whole thing up and it just popped out. And so now we're going to remove the whole thing and see what horrors we got down below. Every day we had to put things back so we could live on the boat and then take it apart again to clean out the tanks and we use long scrubbers mops and elbow grease and detergent to really get rid of all of the mould (mold) before we felt that it was safe to use. The next thing to do was tee off the water pipe to put a fresh water tap in but previous owners modified their plumbing system so we had a mixture of Imperial and metric systems so it took some time to work out a relatively easy step of just teeing off a pipe. Why are you changing them? Well I've got a double one - the single ones under there and I want to use the single ones in the engine room So since then we've replaced the single filter with a double filter we've got a carbon filter on the left-hand side and the five micro filter on the right-hand side. I know a lot of people like you use a double filter before the water goes from the shore into their tanks but I'm kind of the opinion that a little bit of chlorine and the tanks isn't a bad thing because it might hold that mould (mold) at bay. And we don't have to replace the carbon filters much because it's only filtering out drinking water and not tap water for washing up and showering in things that. So it goes through the carbon filter, through the five micron filter and then up to the drinking water tap. No more more bottled water and no more plastic bottles. Nice. I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

A marvelous sunrise in Lindos when we are leaving towards Karpathos. We sail around the eastside of Karpathos and visit Olymbos by bike. From Karpathos we cross back to the north-east towards Astypalaia. Never heard of before, but the island can easily compete with a lot of more famous ones.

Es ist soweit Leute! Endlich!
