We put the Millennial Falcon to bed and fly back to Australia where we meet up with the family on a Lagoon 421 catamaran to cruise the Whitsunday Islands. We made a clockwise circuit around the islands starting out with Whitsundays peak, accessible from sawmill Bay in Cid Harbour. Next we hit Hamilton Island marina to collect a few extra bodies before heading north again to Stonehaven, Hayman island, around the top of Hook Island (where we had a great time on the nets in some bumpy seas). Headed south, we stopped at Butterfly bay, where we had a catastrophic drone crash, then further south to Tongue bay, the view point for the white sands of Chalkies beach Whitehaven. Then it was home to Hamilton island marina again for a wedding. Episode 33 Ricky & I go check out the inner city enduro competition as Ricky was pretty keen to go watch it as he use to ride enduro before he met me. (Had to many broken bones and injuries at this time ha ha) We started painting once more (this is a tedious process and requires a lot priming, texture coating and top coating) You might wonder why we swap and change the whole time in between and fair after we paint but due to the white paint showing a lot of previous imperfections you couldn't see with the naked eye before, it requires for us to go back... fair.. sand and prime and then paint once again) I also dipped my hair in a ton of paint... luckily i thought fast and it required me not to cut a chunk of my hair off :P Our windows frames go up (we epoxied them on with cotton flocks and epoxy resin) and then added another bead of epoxy mixed with micro balloons to make a nice fillet around the frame so it looks like it came out of a mold. We also sand the days away on all the pink fairing Ricky added to hide some imperfections. Ricky starts making our gas box, to hold all our gas piping etc, as well as close off the top of our cabinetry to add some counter lights in. Thanks for watching. This week we prepare the teak mast step for installation. The mast is going to be stepped next week and we needed to ensure that the wooden mast step was covered with epoxy to keep it protected from water. We cover it with Varnish and show a great way to build up layers quickly and protect the wood. We also plan for a design/layout the new railing that will go along the cockpit and stern of the boat. We have tossed this idea around for a while and finally decided that we are doing all this other work, we may as well do this too. :) I also test out some bilge lighting options and deal with some serious thunderstorms which put a damper on my varnishing plans for the boom. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

Our new base for a while is Honolulu on Oahu, Hawaii. Here we will have friends and family visiting us and we'll also prepare the boat for Alaska and British Columbia. But before we can settled down in the marina we have to go through a boat inspection and do a buoy run! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. After more than 45.000 nautical miles and 12 cities visited in eight months of competition, three teams would start the final sprint leg of the Volvo Ocean Race effectively tied, with the eventual winner, Dongfeng Race Team, only securing victory in the final moments. There has never been a dull moment, the competition has always been tight and the results open until the very end. It was the closest finish in the history of the race, and marked the first victory for a Chinese-flagged team. As the ultimate test of a team in sport, the 13th edition of the race delivered challenges, emotions, and highs and lows to all the sailors and teams.
