Juni 2014 in Hamburg gestartet.

We had to evacuate our boat and drive north. Waiting to return to find out if our sailboat was destroyed or damaged. Have you been waiting to learn how our sailboat and marina fared in the hurricane? We've watched different sailboat channels recount their Hurricane aftermath. Now, it's Sailing Nervous time to share! It's taken awhile but we were finally able to return to inspect and see first-hand our hurricane sailboat! What do liveaboards do when a hurricane threatens? What kind of marina is best to survive in? Hurricane Florence destroyed sailboats and marinas in the Carolinas. So much to learn about sailing as a liveaboard in hurricane territory. In this episode we finally find out Yab-Yum's fate...do we still have a sailboat?...can we continue living on a boat? Or did Hurricane Florence destroy her?! Watch and fine out! All American Marine, Inc. and the Hanke family of Puget Sound Express are pleased to introduce the Saratoga, the newest member of the PSE whale watching fleet. The 73-foot, aluminum catamaran vessel was designed by Nic De Waal of Teknicraft Design in Auckland, New Zealand and built by All American Marine in Bellingham, WA. The “USCG Subchapter T” certified, high-speed catamaran has 2 asymmetrical semi-planing hulls, and an adjustable aluminum midship hydrofoil plus two aluminum aft foils, which allow the boat to achieve top speeds of 40+ knots. This design, coupled with finely-tuned, wave-piercing sickle bows, enables the boat to travel through both calm and rough water at full cruising speed while keeping underwater noise to a minimum. The Saratoga was designed from top to bottom for low fuel consumption at high speeds, a critical factor to the success of the daily whale watch tours originating out of Edmonds. The vessel also utilizes Hamilton Jet Drive control systems with four HJ364 water jets and MECS control systems, which are second to none in terms of maneuverability as well as fuel efficiency at higher speeds. “During sea trials, we went out with a specifically fully laden vessel, and the difference in terms of fuel consumption between light laden and fully laden was almost negligible” said De Waal. “We’ve done many years of research to develop a vessel design that’s particularly low-wake, due in large part to our unique hydrofoil system that doesn’t displace as much water and create waves as is the case with traditional hull design.”

This essentially new 2017 Lagoon 52 is simply a very special boat. She was fitted out and equipped for a private owner’s use rather than a charter yacht and has been the demo ‘show boat’ at our head sales office in Ft Lauderdale. Our ‘Cat woman’, Melanne Maddalene, has just purchased her for her use, as well as to offer her for charter to Mel’s loyal group of followers. This (sexy) exceptional yacht has extras that you will not find on most other 52’s, such as: TENDERLIFT HYDRAULIC PLATFORM (great for diving and swimming) WHITE CARBON CANOE BOOM WITH LED LIGHT WHITE CARBON STEERING WHEEL WHITE PAINTED MAST AFT COCKPIT AND TRANSOM FLOORS IN TEAK TWIN 80HP YANMAR ENGINES WATERMAKER TOILET, SHOWER & HEAD IN STARBOARD BOW COMPARTMENT / FINISHED CABIN IN PORT BOW (excellent for Captain & Cook couple or guests) BOTH FOREPEAK BOW COMPARTMENTS, CABINS, SALON HAVE AIR CON ADDITIONAL REFRIGERATOR IN THE GALLEY NAUTI BY NATURE II, Lagoon 52 first charter takes places in October 2018 in the British Virgin Islands. The Maiden charter will be captained by Owner Melanne Maddalene… AKA “Pirate Queen” by locals in BVI and “Cat Women” by many by The Catamaran Company staff and guests in the USA. Captain Mel has owned several catamarans with The Catamaran Company over the years and continues to support the industry with the latest, newest and upgraded Catamarans in Charter. We consider “NAUTI BY NATURE II’ the “BENTLEY OF ALL THE LAGOON 52’S the same way we consider Captain Mel the ‘PIRATE QUEEN OF ALL CHARTER OWNERS’! We truly believe no other Lagoon 52 is fitted the way NAUTI BY NATURE II is equipped. The luxurious upgrades on Captain Mel’s choice of Equipment will make the difference from an excellent sailing vacation to an exceptional one. For a week or more, charter guests are handed over the keys to one, if not the sexiest performing cruiser catamaran available in the British Virgin Islands. Drive yourself or hire a captain for the duration of your sailing vacation! If you are the primary charter guest getting ready to arrange a charter, your friends and family won’t be disappointed, in fact they will think you the smartest and most experienced Charter Leader anywhere in the BVI! Make unforgettable memories that will last a life time with your friends and family! Captain Mel has truly outdone herself on this very special catamaran and what a privilege for Charter guests to enjoy this very special opportunity. Book early to sail the “Bentley of the BVI’s” brought to you by the “Pirate Queen of All Charter Owners”

Now I know this video is a bit of fun... BUT safety on board is a serious matter! Whether sailing coastal or off shore safety has to be taken serious. A twenty year old life raft and poor quality life vest will not help you when that massive squall pops up over the horizon! In this episode I talk about what I am looking for in new a new life raft and life vest, and test out my current stock... needless to say it's not a very successful test... Cooking on a sailboat isn’t very different than cooking in a regular kitchen. I have a fridge, a stove, an oven and a sink. Of course, my “kitchen” (called a galley on a boat) is a little smaller than the kitchen I had in my Stockholm’s apartment. I also use gas instead of my induction stove and electric oven, and use ustensiles that are stainless steel or that I am not afraid to break. Cooking in my galley really doesn’t feel any different, apart from when we are underway, and all if a sudden, everything starts to move. That’s the reason why I would typically have all our meals prepared before departure, which I never failed to have done, until we left Porto. And just by naming “Porto”, you probably understand the reason why that time, we left without meals ready, and I found myself having to cook underway. This week, I take you back to the days we met with our friends Andy and Mia in Porto, and had the greatest of times in the city, including: voting in the Swedish parliament election and taking the cable car in Porto as a way to correct a routing mistake. We obviously couldn’t be in the city without a serious Port Wine tasting, which left me feel very tired on the next day, as we departed Porto to head towards Lisbon. And I found myself having to cook, on a day the wind weren’t high enough for us to sail, and the seas rolly enough to make cooking challenging. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** GEAR ** ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout). Following Simon Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/finding_simon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/findingsimon Website: http://simonstiles.com/ Asking Simon - Who are you? I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

Colleagues and viewers alike ask me from time to time whether it is really worth my time and effort to promote luxury yachts on YouTube. They question whether YouTube is an appropriate platform to present expensive luxury products, and even ask whether Ultra High Net Worth Individuals even watch YouTube videos at all. Here, I open a window on the strategy of video marketing and explain why YouTube is such an important platform. If you are not using it...you really need to start! The best amateur sailors from across the country converged on the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court in Newport, R.I., for the fifth edition of the Resolute Cup, a Corinthian championship for U.S. yacht clubs. Provided boats and sails ensure the ultimate level playing field and the competition reflected this, with the regatta in doubt until the end of the final race.

It's not how you start, it's how you finish. That described the route San Diego Yacht Club took to win the fifth edition of the Resolute Cup, a Corinthian championship for U.S. Yacht Clubs. Led by skipper Tyler Sinks, the team was at its best in the double-points medal round, leaping from fourth to first to claim the win and a berth in the 2019 Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup.
