A new set of national youth champions were crowned after a stunning final day of sailing on the Derwent River at the 2019 Australian Youth Championships presented by the Australian Maritime College. The regatta doubled as the second and final qualifying event for the Australian team for the 2019 Youth World Championships in Gdynia, Poland in July, so many athletes had cause for double celebration after the provisional team was announced during the presentation dinner at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. www.sailingyouth.org.au

The water at the reef was freezing cold, but that didn't stop us from swimming around or from enjoying ourselves while in such a beautiful place! We were just glad that we wore our shorty wet suites to help keep us warm. Snorkeling on the North West side of Guana Cay turned out to be a fantastic spot to find vibrant sea-life and it had lots of variety for dinghy anchoring spots as well as several dive morrings to chose from. We did a little bit of both and found that no matter where we went, the reefs were spectacular and there was plenty of fish swimming around! After a cold, but fun morning of snorkeling we returned back to Turtle and picked up anchor so we could continue our transit across the Abacos. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. In the midst of leaving the house have you ever remembered at the last minute to bring something but told yourself it wouldn’t be THAT important? Only to find out that you REALLY needed the thing you neglected to spend 2 extra minutes getting? This week I did that. And we had a Family Circus Adventure up a remote river in Vanuatu with a broken down dinghy and no tools to fix it. Find out how we get out of that pickle and then have a great time learning how to make and drink Kava with the villagers in the Maskelyne Islands. The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. On this trip we decided to buy "Family Circus", planned to sail her to New Zealand and started an adventure that has changed our lives.
