On one of our summer family day sails out on Barnegat Bay we found a waterskiing flag which we recovered. Since I had made a towing handle that summer which was on board and we had brought one of the boys foam surf boards I figured lets give it a try. We were on our way home on a late Sunday afternoon with the bay mostly to ourselves so we had plenty of room. We were motorsailing with both sails up... worked a lot better than I expected, if I had my large board it would have been better yet! We also had a great day of swimming, kayaking, fishing and eating too! Video ends with some video of the kids jumping off the bow while sailing... I final did it too in 2017?! I have gained trust in the rest of the families ability to sail, which means pick me up if I'm too slow getting back to the stern boarding ladder ;-) Thanks for watching! Fair Winds and Seas! John

For this first episode of our new season, we take you into the glamorous life that we live before we can start voyaging in the Med again! During the coming weeks, we will be focusing on boat work, and this week we take you along through a few projects, starting off with the most glam of all: servicing the toilet. The ride continue with repairing some docking mistakes I made a couple of years ago and cleaning the teak. All good fun! But I’m grateful for the little beer fund that some of you guys started, it came very handy at the end of this video! :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** JOIN THE CREW! ** Join our virtual crew of Patrons at: https://www.patreon.com/ryanandsophiesailing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** GEAR ** ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout). TRAILER for Kon-Tiki - A film by Thor Heyerdahl (B&W) 1951 Academy-Award for Best Documentary. This classic 16mm documentary captures both a sea adventure and a scientific test of ancient sailing techniques. It changed views on where the peoples of polynesia originated. Purchase a Download of the full 58:28 film at Vimeo On Demand https://vimeo.com/ondemand/kontikidocumentary Stream with a SAILFLIX subscription at https://www.sailflix.com/kon-tiki Thor Heyerdahl's 1947 adventure voyage spans 4,300 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean aboard a balsawood raft. Expedition members: Thor Heyerdahl, Herman Watzinger, Erik Hesselberg. ABOUT THE VOYAGE On 28 April 1947, a raft made of balsawood carrying six men and a parrot sailed out of Callao, Peru. Its skipper was the then 33-year-old Thor Heyerdahl, and their destination was Polynesia. The expedition was a result of the theory Heyerdahl had been pondering ever since his stay on Fatu Hiva: this group of islands in the South Pacific could not have been populated solely by peoples from the west. It must also have been populated by indigenous South Americans. Among the circumstantial evidence Heyerdahl pointed to, was the story of Kon-Tiki Viracocha, a native chief who, legend has it, sailed west from Peru into the sunset on a large balsawood raft. For a complete history of the expedition, visit https://www.kon-tiki.no/expeditions/kon-tiki-expedition/ ABOUT THOR HEYERDAHL Norwegian, Thor Heyerdahl (1914–2002) is one of history’s most famous explorers. In 1947 he crossed the Pacific Ocean on the balsawood raft Kon-Tiki. This was his first expedition to be captured on film. He later completed similar achievements with the reed boats Ra, Ra II and Tigris, through which he championed his deep involvement for both the environment and world peace. The annual process of antifouling is upon us and we need to make some decisions about what to use, where to antifoul and what is going to suit us as we cruise the Mediterranean. The second part of our time in Martinique was filled with plenty of little projects on the boat and really getting a grasp of the cruising life. We have added another solar panel to the boat for additional power, fixed the water maker, and added a few upgraded features. Everyday we have become a little more self sufficient and nearing off the grid. Well, not completely of course, but food, power, and water at least. This time WE welcome our family and friends aboard to give them a taste of this amazing life we have so happily adopted and show them the best of sailing. An excellent start to the new year to say the least. Even after a sad case of mistaken identity with our first deep sea fish catch, we later redeem ourselves with an even bigger catch. Martinique allowed us to settle in and become the new cruisers that we are. Staring here and now returning all on our own has been a big boost of confidence. Ich danke euch für eure Unterstützung! ❤️ https://www.patreon.com/marietim 🍺 https://paypal.me/marietimde 👕 http://www.marietim.ch/shop/ #sailing #pacific #blind Please like Craig’s video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf12aDJv9Ww *** Deutsch: bitte runter scrollen *** On my channel, I usually post videos of my own sailing adventures. This video is different: blind captain and liveaboard Craig Faris is the focus of this episode! Craig and I met each other on Instagram. I was immediately in total awe of his sailing project. Craig was born blind. He lives on his 31 ft sailboat in North Vancouver and wants to sail across the Pacific to New Zealand. For that, he has entered the Holman Prize competition – a competition where blind people submit their projects via a pitch video on YouTube and the ones with the most thumbs-up get to the final. If Craig wins, he’ll be able to finance the special equipment (e.g. talking compass, talking radar) needed for his big trip. In order to spread the word of his big adventure, I asked Craig if he wanted to do a sort of interview on my channel. He said yes, and that’s how this video came about. I wanted to know all about why he likes to sail, how he goes about his daily routine on his boat, and whether he ever gets sea sick. Having been a liveaboard and ocean crosser myself I know that sailing can be hard, tiring and challenging at times. That is why I admire Craig even more! My granddad was blind, having lost his eyesight in an accident, after which his life needed a lot of adjusting. In publishing this video, I want to raise awareness that you can follow your dreams even with a disability. We should all be a little more like Craig, just going out there and following our dreams! Please like Craig’s pitch video for the Holeman Prize. That way, we can see him set sail to New Zealand. Thank you, Marie.

Oh crumbs. A week we will remember for the rest of our days. We take a day sail from St Kitts to Saba. A rock in the Caribbean Sea, rising to great heights, with two small towns nestled in the clouds. No shelter or bays to speak of here and the Northerly swell and strong breeze was enough for us to abandon ship. I know, we can't believe we did it either. What we found on land was a sight to behold. Where the jungle meets the sea; we've never been to any place quite like Saba. This island is home to dense fauna and abundant wildlife, and many of its species are exclusive to Saba. Jackson dropped a piece of bread overboard, and out of nowhere, a shoal of Jacks, a shark and a barracuda swooped into view. So that indicated it would be worth going for a freedive. Yes, yes it was. Thanks for watching guys. If you liked it, please give us a thumbs up and leave a lovely comment. We post every Sunday! So if you’d like to see us every week, why not subscribe. We conquered the 500 miles from Antigua to Bonaire in a little over 3 days, despite some crazy squalls it was a lovely downwind sleigh ride and it was a treat to arrive to a new culture in the Dutch Antillean island of Bonaire. Bonaire is known as one of the top spots in the world for diving and now we know why! Literally the whole island is a massive reef and marine park with hundreds of diving and snorkeling spots - you can see why all the number plates on the cars say 'Divers Paradise' and every second person has dive tanks in the back seat! So what better place for our 12 year old son David to have his first independent dive! We also enjoyed exploring the rest of the island with its wild side - donkeys wander the streets, cactus juice is the local liquor, salt pans and slave huts, flamingo lagoons and lots of fabulous restaurants! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.
► The full article is available in Multihulls World #165: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/gunboat-68-when-a-cruising-catamaran-becomes-a-work-of-art ► built in France, Gunboats take up all the codes of the mythical American brand: the Gunboat 68, signed by VPLP, was the first model to be “made in La Grande Motte”. She was launched at the very beginning of 2019. Her program? Racing, obviously, and high-speed cruising. High-tech construction, curved daggerboards, interiors of pure luxury and multiple layout combinations, the “Guns” can be customized as desired. Other strong points: the maneuvering cockpit at the foot of the mast, inspired exterior lines and a generous sail plan - even playful with the bigger-mast version, such as on #1, Condor, that we had the chance to test. The manufacturer, which is able to deliver 3 to 4 units per year, will be launching the Gunboat 80... ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Gunboat Length: 69’1” (20.75 m) Beam: 29’10” (9.10 m) Light displacement: 39,240 lbs (17,800 kg) Draft: 3’11” / 13’5” (1.20 / 4.10 m) Mainsail area: 1,530 / 1,880 sq ft (142 / 175 m²) Genoa: 710 / 830 sq ft (66 / 77 m²) Spinnaker area: 3,500 / 4,660 sq ft (325 / 433 m²) No. of cabins: 4 / 5 / 6 Water: 2 x 100 US gal (2 x 378 l) Diesel: 2 x 100 US gal (2 x 378 l) Engines: 2 x 80 HP ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! La Rochelle-based builder Neel presented their brand-new 47 at the 2019 International Multihull Show at La Grande Motte. On board this trimaran designed by Marc Lombard, there’s the generous central space, which merges saloon and cockpit - the in-house name is the Cockloon. The main innovation: the owner's cabin is located on the same level as the rest of the platform, and offers a direct view of the route ahead or the anchorage. The floats fitted out as guest cabins allow the owner and crew to receive friends for short or medium stays or to offer some independence to the children. An intelligent and convincing layout in use. All the technical equipment is grouped in the central hull, below floor level. This means bonuses for space saving, ease of maintenance, reduced and centered weight. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Neel Trimarans Length: 46’7” (14.20 m) Beam: 27’3” (8.3 m) Light displacement: 23,370 lbs (10.6 t) Draft: 5’3” (1.60 m) Mainsail area: 755 sq ft (70 m²) Genoa: 540 sq ft (50 m²) Staysail: 215 sq ft (20 m²) Water: 158 US gal (600 l) Diesel: 79 US gal (300 l) Engines: 60 HP Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! Full Recipe on Blog: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/creamy-butter-cream-cheese-frosting/ Sugar is grainy and can be hard to make smooth that is why most cream cheese frostings are made with powdered sugar.
