Nandji is back in the water and its time treat ourselves by having some FUN! Tools Down!! https://www.sailingnandji.com/ In this episode of Sailing Nandji, its tools down! Nandji is back in the water and safely at anchor once again. After spending nearly 3 months on the island of Langkawi, we are yet to see any of island apart from the boatyard. We felt it was time to go explore the island and have a day of enjoyment and try to relax a little! WE hire a car for the day, little red rocket... and rattle our way around the island of Langkawi checking out the sights. We find some amazing beaches, visit waterfalls, temples and then take the famous cable car to the sky bridge up in the mountains for the spectacular views. To finish the big day of touring off, we head to the tourist beach of Langkawi, Pantai Cenang and relax with a beer and the sun setting over the water. A great day off! Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papuea New Guinea and Indonesia and finally arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. Currently on the hard stand, we are re-powering and completing a major refit! The work is now complete and Indonesia here we come! We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! Eleuthera is definitely one of the islands in the Bahamas that is known for having fun surf especially at a spot called Surfer's Beach. We are a little late in the season to have a good chance of getting really good waves but as a mild front came through we were able to take advantage of a 1-hour offshore wind window to catch a few clean waves and we had an absolute blast! We go over to Seaside Heights Boardwalk and also visit an excellent little seafood restaurant, but the big news is that I get to fly home and see the family again. When I landed in New Orleans, Deb, Whitney, and Swab met me at the airport with a big ole sign welcoming me home. It was great to hug all their necks. Chaz didn't come to the airport because she was over at one of her friend's houses visiting before we move to Florida. As you can imagine, moving at 13 feels life-altering, so we want to allow her that time to say goodbye. When back on board, we install some new bilge pumps. SVDreamChaser had 3 in it, but the third one was not working. The first two did, but if we were going to be away from the boat for some time, I wanted to be very sure about bilge pumps. Rather than a float switch, it kicks on at a particular frequency, and if it detects water being pumped, it continues, if not it turns off. Dragonfly trimarans are small, fun speed machines. They offer less (storage) space under deck than a monohull of comparable size, but a lot more real estate on deck (counting the nets). What you get in return is SPEED. Lots of it. Up to 21 knots and 1,3x wind speed, if we believe their claims. With as little as 35 cm (14") of draft this boats can sail anywhere. This episode we finish our time in Staniel Cay with exploring a plane wreck and picking up packages with watermaker air before we head out to go back to Georgetown to stage leaving the Bahamas for the season. We discovered that the plane ride was once a drug smuggling plane that was doing practice runs with flour to test for weight. There is an much left to the plane, it was in very shallow water right off of the beach in Staniel Cay. It was so shallow that you could practically walk on the plane. When you were in the Bahamas one of the ways to get packages from the US is by using a service. We went with one called Watermaker’s Air. Several our cruising buddies have use this service so we thought let’s give it a try. We got much-needed packages from home, ketones, spare electric motor parts and mail. Oh and chocolate 😁 Once we had all of the packages back on the boat we lifted anchor the next morning and headed out Staniel Cay. We had to go through the cut and we shared it with a very large boat, making for interesting trip out of Staniel Cay. We made decent timers Georgetown although a little longer than we expected. Our dog Lola get's into some trouble on the beach and we have to take measures to ensure she is ok. We found a vet nearby and took her in, a little scare. Dealing with these things is always harder while traveling on a boat. (Ep.82) We took our old Vetus hydraulic cylinder that came with the boat and decided to restore it and make it beautiful again. Replace the seals and as long as the cylinder itself wasn't to scratched up and the movement was still there, we could just replace the seals and she will be good to go! We were BLOWN AWAY by Hangzhou. I think we had low expectations and in every area, it surpassed what we thought it would be. The main attraction in Hangzhou is West Lake. The lake is 13.5 miles in circumference and easily walkable, bu other options exist like electric carts and bicycles. All along the way, you run into famous pagodas, bridges, temples, museums, and places to sit along the lake. It's relaxing and very chill. The people are great. The food is outstanding and prices, believe it or not, were quite inexpensive and reasonable. After hosting the G20, we thought that the lake and surrounding area would be highly commercialized, but it has maintained a very quiet, quaint and traditional environment. It took us about 10 hours to walk around the entire lake and back to our hotel. It was a long day, but well worth it. The landscaping and natural beauty of the lake and mountains are breathtaking. Hangzhou is well worth a visit of at least a few days. Try to go during lotus season - it must be even more beautiful with all of the flowers in bloom. We did not have the chance to take a ferry to the islands; it rained one entire day and we ran out of time. We did hear the islands are lovely and being on the lake is a treat.
