We finally arrive in Sicily and find shelter in the harbour. We explore the wonders of the city and then attempt to continue on our journey South until.....we manage to get 3 lines around our propellor as we try to leave. We are a family with 3 children and make our own electricity and water, homeschool the kids and do our own boat maintenance. Great Inagua in the Bahamas is known for making salt. That's right, the salt you eat. Morton's salt to be specific. They have a huge plant on the NW side of the island which employs a majority of the people living in the nearby settlement of Mathew Town. We hired a guide with our friends Conor and Steph to explore the island a bit and lucky for us he used to work as a welder for the salt company before he retired. He knew ALL about how salt is made and even drove us right onto a salt flat!!! The Meri Crew sails to Nova Scotia! We finish up our time in Maine with the Lobster Festival in Rockland then set sail across the Gulf of Maine and into the Labrador current, where the water, and the air, is cold. We spend some time in Shelburne and then sail up the coast to Lunenburg, taking in a county fair, Canadian style, as well as a music festival. On our way back to the US we sail through lots and lots of fog.

Ruben war ein Wochenende zuvor schon mit einem sehr guten Freund unten und hat das Unterwasserschiff mit 2 Schichten Epoxy Primer für das bevorstehende Antifouling vorbereitet. In dieser Sailing-Benko-Power-Woche ist sehr viel los. In diesem ersten Teil wird der Mast wieder gestellt. Davor müssen natürlich noch ein paar Sachen vorbereitet werden. So zeigen wir euch, wie wir die Falle am Mast durch annähen tauschen, Windmesser und Radarreflektor installieren und noch viele weitere kleine Sachen auf dem Weg zum fertigen Boot. Auch haben wir wieder ein funktionierendes Ruder, welches wieder mit Rostversiegelung und Grundierung behandelt werden möchte. Im zweiten Teil gehts dann ans Antifouling!
