Nun waren unsere letzten Tage an Land angebrochen und plötzlich gab es diese Deadline, die uns kurzfristig ganz schön auf Trab hielt. Ehrlich: auf einen Boot findet man immer ein Projekt. Etwas, was sich optimieren oder kontrollieren oder servicieren lässt. Am Ende heißt es, sei es unmöglich, die Atlantiküberquerung mit einer vollständig leeren To-Do Liste zu starten. Und würde man es versuchen, so käme man nie los. Weise Worte. Es war Zeit zu gehen. Wir waren bereit. Noch ein paar Tage länger und wir wären wohl wahnsinnig geworden. Equally at home on beamy ocean racers as foiling America’s Cup boats, Kyle Langford was a key member of the Comanche team’s afterguard. Sydneysiders will be seeing him again in February 2020 for the Sail GP series.

With years of experience in Volvo Ocean Race and America’s Cup sailing it was no surprise to see Mike Sanderson standing beside Jim Cooney as he guided Comanche up the Derwent in one of the river’s more erratic moods.

Having just completed his seventh race to Hobart, and as a highly credentialed Volvo Ocean racer Chris Nicholson played a pivotal role in getting InfoTrack to Hobart in second place.

It says something of the quality of crew and Tony Mutter’s role as sailing master that InfoTrack, the oldest of the super maxis (and which its owner Christian Beck himself talks down!) managed to finish a very close second to Comanche.

Kiwi crew boss and sailmaker Will Tiller helped to organise a young crew for the winner of last year’s Tattersalls Cup, seeing Alive to sixth place over the line.

Bill and Laurene Parlatore have made significant contributions to the Trawler Lifestyle. This began with the creation of PassageMaker magazine, grew through the TrawlerFest events and has expanded on Bill’s blog, Following Seas. Jeff Merrill has known Bill and Laurene since the late 1990’s and they have remained good friends for many years. When Jeff worked for PAE/Nordhavn, he and Bill spent a couple of days together doing a cover story about the Nordhavn 35. Nothing like being ship mates to get better acquainted. Jeff was in Baltimore, MD for TrawlerFest and invited Bill (Laurene could not make it) to drive up from Annapolis for a casual discussion about trawlers which resulted in this #CruisingConversation. The interview was recorded aboard the Nordhavn 50 Ophelia (thank you Charlie and Missy Hodge). Jeff and Bill had fun sitting in the saloon talking trawlers. Galina und Stefan planen eine Auszeit unter Segeln im Mittelmeer und wollen für ihr Sabbatical das perfekte gebrauchte Segelboot kaufen. 12 bis 14 Meter Länge soll das Segelschiff haben, soll sportlich aber auch komfortabel sein, im Idealfall mit einem Centercockpit. Ihr Budget liegt bei 150.000 €. Wir sind bei ihrem Vorhaben dabei, beraten sie beim Bootskauf und suchen für sie den besten Kompromiss für ihre Auszeit. Wir haben einige tolle Optionen rausgesucht - zum Beispiel eine Northwind 47, Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 43 DS, Island Packet 45, Hunter 420 und auch Amel (Santorin und Maramu) ist dabei. Letztendlich haben sie sich für die Schoechl Sunbeam 44 als Favorit entschieden. Eine sehr gute Wahl wie wir finden. Wir haben uns also auf den Weg zur Adria gemacht, um in der Nähe von Venedig diese Segelyacht zu begutachten. Die beiden sollten schauen, ob sie sich darauf wohlfühlen können und wir haben den technischen Check übernommen. Hendrik, als Sachverständiger für Sportboote, hat sogar eine ziemliche Überraschung gefunden. Zusätzlich zum Gutachten ging es dann noch raus auf's Wasser für einen kleinen Segeltörn - Test Segeln bei ruhigen Bedingungen war angesagt! Wir konnten alle Segel ausprobieren und auch hier fanden wir ein paar Themen. Ob das Schiff trotzdem überzeugt und Galina und Stefan schließlich das Segelboot kaufen - das siehst Du in dieser Folge BootsProfis! Viel Spaß damit! Wir verlassen Klintholm (Dänemark) bei schönstem Wetter und segeln um Møns Klint herum Richtung Norden an Falsterbo vorbei, unter der Öresund-Brücke hindurch nach Malmö - eine interessante, lebendige Stadt zwischen Geschichte und Moderne, von wo aus Malin und Johan von RAN-Sailing im Januar 2016 gestartet waren. Weil es im Westen zu stark regnet und der Wind aus der falschen Richtung kommt, entscheiden wir uns dort, nicht weiter Richtung Kattegat zu fahren, sondern im Süden um die Küste Schwedens herum nach Ystad - die Stadt von Kurt Wallander, dem Kommissar aus den Romanen von Henning Mankell. Hier unternehmen wir einen kleinen Abstecher nach Kåseberga, wo wir uns die Steinsetzung aus der Wickingerzeit "Ales Stenar" ansehen.
