Ep 111 We took her out for the first time & man I thought the boat launch would be emotional. What an amazing day. The engines were running like a dream, we anchored off the pierre and swam, put out our fishing rods and caught some tuna. Went into the fog to test our radar and to top it all off a huge pod of dolphins came by on the way back to the marina. It was all in all an epic day! Though we applied anti-fouling on Nala not long ago, we did the mistake to use soft anti-fouling. Our journey to the beautiful archipelago of Bijagos, in Guinea Bissau, with their constant currents that average 4 knots, and the Atlantic crossing had a significant effect on the anti-fouling, actually at this point you can see the primer on Nala's bottom! So we are condemned to clean the bottom Weekly until the next haul out! Пока все идет в соответствии с прогнозом, то есть нам обещали, что начнется с дождей и после этого придет сильный ветер. То есть где-то к 12 часам дня ветер должен усилится и начнет реально дуть. Качается. Так ну что у нас здесь. Сыро, холодно, ветер, дождь. Так посмотрим, пока нормально пока не трёт. В Испании бушует мощный ураган Глория. Жертвами, которого уже стали 4 человека. Штормовое предупреждение объявлено на большей части территории страны. По данным синоптиков порывы ветра достигают... Глория унесла жизни 4 человек, еще 20 пострадали. О мощный шторме и пишут европейский СМИ. Сначала он обрушился на Восточную Испанию.В некоторых городах туристы и местные жители... В Испании по меньшей мере 4 человека погибли в результате шторма Глория. Местами порывы верта достигают 100 км/ч. Затронуто всё Средиземноморское побережье Испании. Из-за непогоды перекрыты... В Испании 4 человека стали жертвами непогоды. На Восточное побережье страны обрушился шторм Глория. В 9-и провинциях... На Восточное побережье Испании обрушился сильный шторм. Он принес с собой не только ураганный ветер, но и дождь со снегом. Метеорологическая служба страны предупредила жителей о погодной опасности. В это время здесь островок тишины и спокойствия. Здесь Ксюха готовит вовсю. У нас тут вон, перчики. Нас прямо плющит о пирс, правда не сильно. Помогает, что мы растянулись. А фудблогерство продолжается. -Чем еще в шторм заняться? Это шикарный вообще, пышный, нежный и очень вкусный. ---Холодрыга жуткая абсолютно. Холодно. Ты всё вилку, хоть бы что-нибудь другое ещё положила. А то, всё вилка да вилка. Рассказывайте. Во-первых Ксюха молодец! А мы выглядываем, там парус хлопает этот. У нас шоу. Мы смотри. - Ну,да. -Ну, а что делать то? -Бояться и смотреть. -Спрячь пузо. Пузо спрячь или втяни. -А давай прикроем чем-нибудь? Встань! Серёж, Тимур слишком маленький, для того чтобы спрятать твоё пузо. Вообщем у лодки оторвался носовой швартов и она на своем кормовом готовилась прийти сюда. А теперь самое важно. Мы всё закрепили. А ситуация какая: мы ж запрыгивали, как раз кормой и там разбило пирс. Ну она железная, а там деревянные леса. -Она железная? -Да. Она победила. Короче мы то нос притянули, а корма отошла и теперь между ней там... А у меня ноги то короткие. Я ж балетом не занимался. И как бы я там эту ножку оттягивал оттягивал и у меня такое ощущение, что рейлинг подломился подо мной. Вот правда, я так ЭХ! Как будто вот там вот хрустнуло. Короче раз и я уже в воде и с меня слетает тапок. Что ты думаешь? Он не меня ловит, он ловит мой тапок. Понимаешь? Типо наконец нормальная обувь будет у меня. Нет, когда в воде плавает тапок всегда есть шанс, что там под тапком остальной человек. И спасать надо. А я вешу там, пытаюсь вот. Ну вообщем 19 января как положено Серёжа нырял в прорубь.Нырял в прорубь, не по своей воле. Давай поправлю, козырек тебе. Но ты прям моряк. Вот так вот это чтоб в туалет сходить, да так вот одеваешься и идешь. -Я готова. -Ты готова? На, подержи камеру. -О, рванул кранец. Мы с тобой как это марсиане на заброшенной планете. А тем временем в воздухе то же происходила драма . Самолеты пытались садиться и уходили на второй круг, возвращались обратно. честное слово не завидую тем пассажирам которые в них находились. Друзья ураган закончился, гроза отгремела у нас опять солнце и достаточно тепло. Эта история получилась с хорошим концом. Но, несмотря на всё это с каждой истории нужно делать выводы. И вывод, который мы сделали это то, что недостаточно хорошо закрепить свою лодку и быть готовым к шторму.

In March 2019 David Hows sailed 1,250 miles from Southport, Australia across the Tasman Sea to Auckland, New Zealand via Opua in the Bay of Islands with his crew of 4 onboard a Beneteau 45 named Ocean Gem. A fantastic 7-day reaching / running passage was enhanced by a series of unexpected events, starting with a cast alloy anchor stem bow fitting that broke in two, a broken steering cable 400nm offshore, a parade of 150+ dolphins and finally a crew emergency requiring ambulance evacuation on arrival. This story reinforces that despite having great plans, you should always expect the unexpected and adapt to the challenges that occur along the way in almost every ocean passage. The Seamester experience is designed to be adventurous, so to say that there are no risks would be misleading. However, awareness of these inherent risks is the key to developing the strategies we use to manage them. Managing risk is a significant responsibility and is something we take seriously. Naturally, our staff plays an integral role in our risk management strategy. Most team members are multi-talented, combining professional training and practical expertise with the more traditional university, graduate, and post-graduate degree education. Our staff includes U.S. Coast Guard, and MCA licensed captains, marine scientists, oceanographers, medically trained personnel, and PADI scuba instructors. The Student to staff ratio is typically 4:1, providing close interaction and individual attention. Along with the majority of the world's highest quality yachts, Seamester schooners proudly fly the red ensign. The U.K. Ship Registry is renowned for its high international standards of maritime safety, and each vessel undergoes a thorough annual inspection to maintain its classification. In addition to our standard safety equipment, such as personal flotation devices, tethers and harnesses, EPIRBS, immersion suits, and liferafts, the ability to communicate effectively is essential in mitigating risk. We have an established communication protocol, and utilizing satellite connectivity, our teams can communicate by voice or data anywhere on the planet. To add additional support, we partner with an international emergency response firm to provide integrated medical assistance for the remote environments we operate in. Our partner provides us world-class medical advice, security services, and evacuation coordination anywhere in the world. Risk management is a partnership, so we rely on our students taking an active role in maintaining their own safety. Taught by our staff, and then reinforced through practical application, students employ safe practices during everyday activities, and through repetition, these practices become second nature. Throughout the voyage, students are expected to exhibit good judgment, and display appropriate leadership behavior, in addition to developing proficient risk management skills themselves. Through experience, we've learned that the most successful semesters are those when everyone aboard is fully committed to creating a supportive and safe environment for all.

In this episode we sail to Skiathos. We have to anchor in a small bay outside the main town quay as it was full with local day charter boats so a 1 mile dinghy trip was required each time. We give you a short tour around the town centre and town quay before being rescued after we run aground in the dinghy and damage the prop! We've changed our colour grading and improved the quality of our voice overs so hopefully you will notice and like the change.
