Take NauticEd’s Skipper Large Powerboat Course to build real competence up to 56 feet—dock confidently, handle close quarters, and prep for chartering and the SLC-P - https://www.nauticed.org/powerboating-courses/view/skipper-large-powerboat?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=f8wnzW6lDI8 The Skipper Large Powerboat Course is a comprehensive course for operating powerboats up to 56 feet, with about 20 hours of study. It’s a lot more than putting the key in and hitting the throttle—there are real skills you should know, and this course is designed to remove a lot of anxiety, especially around docking. Docking is one of the hardest parts of powerboating: getting into a slip, maneuvering in close quarters, managing wind coming from all directions, and operating around other boats and the fuel dock. In this course, you’ll get the knowledge and skills to maneuver your boat confidently in those situations. We also cover the fundamentals you must know: Rules of the road (who gives way—and why “I’ll give way to everyone” can be dangerous) Docking techniques, including spring lines and close-quarter maneuvering Planing and how/when to use trim tabs Anchoring (anchor choice + proper scope) Navigation (how to look at and read a chart) This course is a strong precursor to bareboat chartering—especially if you’re thinking about chartering a power cat somewhere like Greece—and it’s also a precursor to the international license SLC-P, so you can use that license for destinations like Europe or the Seychelles. If you want a structured pathway to competence on a big powerboat, this course is for you. #powerboat #powerboating #boating

We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, SHARE our videos with your friends, AND COMMENT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET TO KNOW US MORE DEEPLY? This week we installed the roof trusses on our mountain home — completely by hand, no crane, no machine. I got to be right in the middle of it, climbing through the trusses as they went up and tying everything together. It was equal parts sketchy and exhilarating. Balancing, moving, and working in some pretty precarious positions gave me a whole new respect for how much coordination and focus this kind of framing takes. I learned a ton on this one. And getting to do it alongside a crew that’s not only incredibly skilled, but also hilarious and hardworking, made it one of the most fun days we’ve had on this build. Let’s get to work! Safety Tether Caution: https://www.practical-sailor.com/safety-seamanship/safety-tether-caution/ Sailing safety gear can mean the difference between a bad day on the water… and never coming home at all. In this video, we walk through the sailing safety gear most people forget — the equipment that actually matters when things go wrong offshore or coastal, not just what looks good in a catalog or satisfies the bare minimum regulations. We start with one of the most important — and misunderstood — pieces of sailing safety equipment: the EPIRB. These emergency beacons operate on the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite search and rescue system, a global network that has helped rescue over 63,000 people worldwide since 1982. We explain how EPIRBs really work, why registration and GPS matter, and how a distress signal turns into an actual rescue. From there, we cover a practical, real-world sailing safety checklist, including: • Life jackets and PFDs with built-in harnesses • Jacklines and tethers for staying on the boat • EPIRBs vs AIS vs personal locator beacons • VHF radios and communication redundancy • Life rafts and ditch bags • Man-overboard recovery gear and planning • Bilge pumps, fire extinguishers, and emergency steering • Cutting tools, lighting, and foul-weather gear This isn’t a fear-based video, and it’s not about buying everything under the sun. It’s about understanding how far away help really is when you’re sailing — and what equipment actually bridges that gap when something goes wrong. Whether you’re day sailing, coastal cruising, or preparing for offshore passages, this video will help you think more clearly about sailing safety gear that saves lives, not just checks boxes. If you sail, this is worth watching. At the east coast of the island Lesbos, in a small town called Sigri, we walked past a church called Agios Theofanis Theophanes Sugrianis lived in the 16th century and became known as a monk and spiritual leader during a period when the island was under Ottoman rule. His name is still spoken with respect by residents of the region. Inside, the church turned out to be richly decorated, with traditional golden icons and oil lamps that are characteristic of the Greek Orthodox, almost mystical architectural style. Take a look with us inside the church.

In this episode, we continue our journey as an Indian sailing family exploring the remote islands of Indonesia and this time we sail into the stunning Moon Rock Bay in Anambas, Indonesia Our day starts with an incredible snorkeling session where we spot four to five baby sharks swimming gracefully around the reef. Seeing sharks up close is always thrilling they look powerful, elegant, and surprisingly peaceful in their natural habitat. We then motor sail about 6.5 nautical miles to a shallow anchorage filled with coral patches. With charts not always reliable in this region, we carefully navigate by reading water colors — a true sailor skill that keeps things exciting. Boat life continues underway as we bake fresh homemade pizza, anchor safely, and spend the afternoon jumping between buddy boats, snorkeling vibrant reefs, and freediving and laughing over food taste off challenges . Moments like these remind us why we love this liveaboard sailing life. This episode is full of adventure, learning, and the simple joy of exploring Indonesia by sailboat.

Unboxing the EPRIB Tron 60AIS from Jotron. What is in the box? How do you use this EPIRB? What documents do you get with the EPRIB? How do you fix the EPRIB to the boat? We bought this EPIRB from the Norwegian retailer Seatronic. As far as possible we buy all our maritime products from Seatronic. We have very good experience with them, and they know their stuff. Here is a link to the product: https://seatronic.no/jotron-tron-60ais-nodpeilesender NB: No affiliate, just an honest review. Here is a link to the manufacturer Jotron, still no affiliate: https://www.jotron.com/products/maritime-communication/epirb/tron-60ais-with-manual-bracket The last link is to myself, since I work as a yacht broker. Please take contact if you want me to sell your boat: https://sailing-maja.com About the Jotron EPRIB: The Jotron Tron 60AIS is an advanced EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) with built-in AIS and GPS. It comes with a manual bracket and is designed for manual activation. It transmits vessel information via satellite with highly accurate positioning. Features include Galileo RLS support, powerful strobe light, and IR (infrared) light. Minimum 48-hour operation time and a total battery life of over 11 years. Approved for use on ships and fishing vessels. The Jotron Tron 60AIS is an EPIRB with GPS and AIS. This version is mounted in a bracket and intended for manual activation, but it will also activate automatically upon direct water contact if removed from the bracket. To activate manually: Remove the EPIRB from the bracket, pull the release tab, and slide the switch to the ON position. The strobe light will then start flashing, indicating the device is active. The EPIRB features both visible white strobe light and infrared (IR) light; the IR improves visibility for night vision equipment and search-and-rescue (SAR) operations in darkness. Key Features Approved to the latest EPIRB standard (IEC 61097-2 Ed.4 and compliant with IMO/SOLAS regulations as of July 2022) AIS target-tracking/homing technology for faster localization by nearby vessels Return Link Service (RLS) via Galileo GNSS IR LED light for night vision devices and assisted SAR Excellent visibility with a powerful top-mounted strobe light (360° coverage) Tamper-proof design Compact and robust build Total battery lifetime: 11 years and 3 months Weight: 715 g (approx. 700–715 g depending on source) Operating temperature: -20°C to +55°C Storage temperature: -30°C to +70°C Safe compass distance: 0.8 m Material: Glass-fiber reinforced polycarbonate Antenna: Flexible, rubberized with integrated strobe GNSS: Global Navigation Satellite System (supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo – 72 channels) What is an Emergency Beacon? An emergency beacon is a simple radio transmitter with worldwide range that, in a distress situation, is activated manually or automatically to send out a distress signal. In Norway, the signal is received by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (Hovedredningssentralen). EPIRB An EPIRB (Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon) is a vessel-mounted distress beacon registered to the boat along with its VHF MMSI number. It transmits vessel details and precise position via satellite. The Tron 60AIS EPIRB includes built-in AIS and GPS for extremely accurate positioning. It also emits a powerful strobe light to aid in locating the distress site. Additionally, the Tron 60AIS features IR light, easily detectable by rescue helicopters and similar assets. An EPIRB typically operates for at least 48 hours after activation, with battery life usually ranging from 5–10 years. On the Tron 60AIS, it exceeds 11 years. The expiration date is stamped on the unit, and it is critical to return the beacon for battery replacement when due. Manually activated EPIRBs like this are typically placed near the stern deck exit or, on sailboats, on the pushpit at the stern. The Tron 60AIS is also available in a float-free version (Category 1) that is placed externally; it features a hydrostatic release unit (HRU) and will float free and activate automatically in case of sinking—but can of course also be manually activated if needed.

This week we take on one of Australia’s most thrilling tidal passages — The Narrows at Gladstone. After positioning ourselves the day before, we depart early to catch the narrow high-tide window needed to transit this incredible channel. At low tide, up to 1.6 metres of land emerges, making the passage impossible without planning (you need 1.6m + your draft in tide to get through!). Once even used as a cattle crossing, it begs the question — are we sailing a channel… or sailing over land? With mangroves just feet away and strong tidal flow pushing us along, there’s no room for mistakes. If you’re considering a Targa 32, one of the most common questions we get is: Bow Seating or Comfort Fore Cabin (CFC)? Ben Scheffer with East Coast Yacht Sales breaks down the key differences between these two popular layouts from exterior seating and entertaining space to interior headroom, storage, and sleeping comfort. The Bow Seating configuration maximizes outdoor space and social seating, while the Comfort Fore Cabin increases interior volume and delivers a more traditional berth layout. Both are excellent, it simply depends on how you plan to use your boat. Want to build a Targa 32? Hi and welcome aboard @SailingAstridTheWombat We are Gav and Shezz and two and a half years ago we bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 sailboat with absolutely no sailing experience and jumped straight into the deep end of liveaboard sailing. Our very first passage was just over 700 nautical miles, launching us headfirst into the world of bluewater cruising, learning to sail, and real life at sea. Since that moment, we’ve been fully immersed in boat life, documenting the journey of turning a production cruising sailboat into a capable, self-sufficient home as we prepare for full-time liveaboard life. From major sailboat upgrades and off-grid power systems to everyday maintenance and skills building, we’re learning what it truly takes to own, sail, and live on a boat while working toward our goal of sailing around the world. If you’re into sailing adventures, beginner sailing, sailboat ownership, cruising lifestyle, and traveling the world by sailboat, our journey is all about real-time learning, ocean freedom, and building the confidence to chase long-term world cruising under sail. In this episode of our liveaboard sailing journey, we explore the incredible coastline of Moreton Island and climb to the top of the famous sandhills for one of the most breathtaking views we’ve ever seen from our cruising sailboat. After sailing across the bay and anchoring off this wild and remote island, we head ashore to experience the natural beauty that makes this destination so special for sailors, cruisers, and lovers of boat life. Living as liveaboard sailors, we’re constantly reminded that some of the most unforgettable experiences come from places you can only truly reach by boat. Moreton Island is a dream stop for anyone interested in coastal cruising, anchoring in remote locations, and combining sailing adventures with land exploration. From the water, the towering sandhills look surreal — but climbing to the top reveals sweeping views of the ocean, coastline, and our tiny floating home anchored below. This episode captures the heart of cruising life and slow travel by sailboat. We leave the boat behind for a few hours, hike through soft sand, and take in the raw, untouched landscape that makes island sailing and world travel by sailboat so unique. It’s moments like this that balance the practical side of sailboat ownership — maintenance, upgrades, and passage planning — with the adventure and freedom that come with life at sea. If you’re interested in liveaboard sailing, beginner sailing, sailboat living, or you’re a sailboat owner dreaming of bigger adventures, this episode shows the lifestyle side of bluewater cruising. It’s not just about miles sailed; it’s about the places your boat can take you — hidden beaches, dramatic landscapes, and views you have to earn. We are preparing our boat and ourselves for sailing around the world, and experiences like this are a huge part of that journey. Exploring islands, anchoring off remote shores, and discovering nature from our floating home is what liveaboard cruising life is all about. Follow along as we share real boat life, sailing adventures, and the path toward full-time world cruising — one anchorage, one island, and one unforgettable view at a time. Join us now as we settle into liveaboard life and get our boat ready to take off and sail around the world. As new sailors we want to share all of our learnings and keep it real in our videos. We want to show step by step what it takes to choose a boat, buy the boat and learn how to sail. Our sailing learning curve is steep so come along with us as we learn and grow as liveaboard sailors.
