It’s the middle of winter, we’re still on the hard, and a sub-freezing cold snap has settled in—so this episode of our sailing refit looks a little different. When temperatures drop below freezing, outdoor projects grind to a halt, but refit life doesn’t stop. In this video, we show what winter boat work really looks like when you’re living between a boatyard and an apartment and doing everything you can to keep moving forward. With the help of two space heaters, Shawn heads out to the boat to tackle interior refit projects that can be done despite the cold. He works on electrical wiring, continues building the fuel polisher system, connects plumbing to the fresh water tanks, and installs pumps in the bilge—slow, careful progress in tight spaces while trying to stay warm enough to function. Meanwhile, Geri stays back at the apartment—she’s far less cold-tolerant, and skipping the boat during this deep freeze is honestly saving her sanity. Being warm, rested, and functional means she can take care of herself and stay energized for what’s ahead, instead of just enduring the cold. We woke up to one of the most uncomfortable anchorages we’ve ever had — rolling heavily behind Pulau Senoa on the east side of Natuna as the swell from Storm Senyar began to reach us. (Natuna — or more precisely, Natuna Besar, sits just north-east of the Anambas Islands, out in the open South China Sea between Borneo and the Malaysian coast). With strong easterly winds building and the anchorage no longer safe, we made the decision to leave and run south in search of real protection. Getting the anchor up in big swell is never simple, and clear communication became essential as we worked together on the bow — something made much easier with our Hollyland headsets. As we sailed along Natuna’s coastline, the weather continued to shift around us. Senyar had crossed from the Indian Ocean into the western Pacific basin — a rare path for a storm — and even though we were far from the centre, its influence was already shaping the sea state across the region. We weren’t the only ones looking for shelter. Local boats began turning into the protected channel between Natuna and the smaller islands just to the south alongside us — a quiet confirmation that we’d found the right place to wait out the weather. Salut les loulous🛖⚓ Aujourd’hui, matinée consacrée à la préparation du bateau : remplissage des cuves à eau et fin de la réparation du moteur hors-bord avec la dernière vidange. Tout est désormais opérationnel pour la traversée. Départ de Los Cristianos en fin de matinée, cap sur La Gomera. La mer est maniable mais le vent reste irrégulier sous l’effet des accélérations entre les îles. Nous atteignons un premier mouillage près de San Sebastián de La Gomera, mais la houle résiduelle le rend rapidement inconfortable : le bateau roule trop . La décision est prise de lever l’ancre sans tarder et de longer la côte à la recherche d’un meilleur abri. Après quelques milles, nous découvrons une petite plage bien protégée au sud de l’île. L’ancre tient parfaitement sur un fond propre et la mer devient nettement plus calme. Nous profitons de cette escale pour débarquer et faire une courte randonnée. Le sentier mène à un ancien village abandonné, figé dans le temps, avec ses maisons de pierre et ses terrasses désertées. L’endroit dégage une atmosphère à la fois paisible et mystérieuse. La météo confirme notre bon choix : un vent établi autour de 35 nœuds souffle de part et d’autre de l’île, générant des zones agitées, mais notre mouillage reste parfaitement abrité. I manage to re-extend this spring with dyneema and a winch and safely reattach it. We leave from the marina and head for mainland Italy in favorable winds and find that the new Hallberg Rassy hull form loves speed through a choppy seaway with an angle off the waves. Admittedly, I first discovered this in the Baltic but needed a bit of a reminder.

Die Straßen sind extrem schlecht, das australische Englisch ist extrem schwierig zu verstehen und die Natur ist extrem – in jeder Beziehung. Was ich damit meine, erlebt ihr in diesem Film. „Ihr Europäer habt die Geschichte, wir Australier haben die Natur“ hören wir wiederholt. Es ist Hochsommer auf der Südhalbkugel. Immer wieder lodern Buschfeuer auf und Straßen sind gesperrt. Solange keine Siedlungen gefährdet sind, werden die Feuer jedoch nicht bekämpft. Brigitta war natürlich vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben passte als in meins. In den folgenden 6 Monaten hat Brigitta aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich über unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Insgesamt sind wir aktuell 4 ½ Jahre unterwegs. Ein Abenteuer folgt dem nächsten und wir genießen jeden Tag aufs Neue. We adore our new lagoon but there are some thing they simply did not think through like the two bow lockers. There separated by an horizontal floor and this makes the locker useless as stowing things in there will request you to take everything in and out to retrive anything. Not a good fit for live aboard sailors who need a lot of spares, accessories and stuff in general. We got rid of the horizontal plane and created a monovolume space that can be used entirely and organised properly

Cast around 1252 during Japan’s Kamakura period, the statue originally sat inside a large hall that was destroyed multiple times by typhoons, earthquakes, and a tsunami. By the late 15th century, it was left exposed to the elements, creating its distinctive open-air presence today. The statue stands 13.35 meters (43.8 feet) tall including its base, weighs about 93-121 tons, and is Japan’s second-tallest bronze Buddha after Nara’s. Key features include 1-meter-long eyes, 1.95-meter ears Hasedera Temple Figures Hasedera boasts hundreds of small Jizo Bodhisattva statues at Jizo-do Hall, symbolizing protection for children’s souls, including those miscarried or stillborn; over 50,000 have been offered since WWII, with hundreds displayed annually before burial.

The Concours d'Elegance at the RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show 2026 has been won by Richard Le Mare's Hadron H2 'Midas'. In what was a truly exceptional line-up of dinghies, the H2 stood head and shoulders above the competition with a liberal sprinkling of gold and, almost unbelievably 312 diamonds, painstakingly hand-set at the aft of the centreboard case, into the shape of the H2 insignia. For some inexplicable reason, ARGO came with carpet in the saloon – which, unsurprisingly, turned out to be completely impractical on a boat. Water, sand and constant damp quickly made it clear that it had to go. We arrive at this anchorage that has a great atmosphere - it feels like a holiday destination for the locals. This stunning old town which we couldn't access, was perched on the end of the breakwall that had a walking track over the headland. Family friendly with parks, restaurants along the shore line and beautiful red pebbled beaches. The kids made friends with a local boy which helped fill their cups, and ease the home-sickness. We experienced some rough seas on our journey south off the coast of South Carolina. “Moments in Time” was tossed in every direction. At some point, the emergency light attached to the life ring was knocked off the stern. We do not know how long we were dragging it but during the night we noticed the light behind us and realized it had come loose. The plastic clips were spongy and no longer could reliably secure it any longer. We drilled out the pop rivets and bolted stainless steel clips in its place. Another easy and inexpensive fix.
