After Celina got her new livery and some other improvements it was time to test her on a short 30 nautical mile trip to the islands of Cabrera. I set sail in the morning hours and the breeze was steady but not too strong. It was such a great feeling being out there after six weeks of hard work in the docks. Cabrera is a natural reserve and they provide buoys since anchoring is not allowed. After a calm and relaxed night I explored the island and learned about its history involving pirates and Napoleon. Some hours later I was heading back to Palmanova with strong winds and a stubborn main sail. #bluewatersailing #boatlife #sailingaroundtheworld #sailing #weltumsegelung #blauwassersegeln #dinghy #diysailboat

Anyone else’s to-do list only ever seem to get longer no matter how many tasks you check off? We’ve got the answer to that: Toss that list overboard and hoist the sails 🤪 The weather is gorgeous, we’ve got swimsuits on in late September, and days like these are what this is all about. We take the trimaran out for a few spins to see what she can do, and even though the wind is finicky and light, we still fly! Course rarely will you find us only “just” having fun. We needed to take the boat out to give her a shakedown, to make sure our to-do list has everything on it that really needs doing. So naturally we add a few more things… But for real, this time it’s about the sailing. Hope you enjoy! Episode 029 Over the last 12 months since moving onboard our sailboat, Te Tāiko, we have been fortunate to be able to sail to and explore many of New Zealand's pest free islands that are home to some of our rare native species. There is nothing like the feeling of dropping anchor in one of these island's bays and having the freedom and time to explore them. There are many benefits to a sailing life but two of the major benefits are not having your time ruled by the expense nor the timetable ferry to visit these islands. You are only governed by the weather, and even that has a sense of mindfulness. Come along with us as we explore Moturua Island in the beautiful Bay of Islands in New Zealand. Could this be the most idyllic island in the Bay of Islands? Tell us what you think in the comments below. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel

It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #TheCruisingKiwis
"Prepping for Departure and a Bit of Engine Maintenance" offers sailing enthusiasts and novice sailors a fascinating glimpse into the world of sailing and the importance of careful preparation and maintenance for a safe and enjoyable voyage. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or new to the world of sailing, this video is sure to inspire and educate.
Let's get this cutwater (stem or bow of the boat) shaped up, shall we? Plus, more 12 volt electrical work, the worm shoe is installed, the last of the pitch repairs on the deck are carried out, we get a varnish and finish report from Ross and George, and the biggest visual progress possibly of them all: the beautiful toe rails are installed. Subscribe to Bob’s channel for updates about the progress on the dinghy: https://youtube.com/@TheArtofBoatBuilding You might remember the bronze brackets for the toe rails being fabricated by MS Fabrication of Dorchester, Massachusetts: Evan cut each piece with his waterjet machine, and Steve welded them together. They've since been bolted to the deck, waiting for these long pieces of oak to be bolted to them. To check out what our capable and informative friend Madison does when she's not helping us with our 12 volt electrical system, visit her channel here: https://www.youtube.com/c/thedigitalmermaid -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. The cameras keep rolling and capture our costliest day sailing aboard our yacht. The Southern Ocean's Furious Fifties bring fury as we round the dangerous Le Maire Strait at the tip of Tierra del Fuego in South America and experience a big loss on board. #SailingAdventure #SouthernOcean #ExtremeSailing About Us: We are two young racing sailors that decided to leave life on land and accomplish our goals of sailing around the world and learning about and experiencing different cultures. Originally from the Great Lakes, we left Newport Rhode Island in July of 2019 after refitting our boat DIY style. We then sailed to Maine, and from there down the East Coast of the USA, around Cape Hatteras, to the Bahamas, Back to Miami, and then to the Virgin Islands. From there we headed south to Grenada to escape hurricane season, then back up to St. Maarten where we launched our first Atlantic Crossing to Horta, Azores. We made a quick trip back to the USA in July of '21 to defend our Chicago - Mackinac Race overall title, then it was back to cruising the Canaries, where we launched for our second Transatlantic voyage, sailing to Brazil in South America and on to Uruguay. Our goal is to sail around the world via Cape Horn, and that is where we are headed now. Capturing footage to share this epic adventure with you as we round the horn and venture into the canals and fjords of Patagonia, Chile. Want To Learn More About Us and See Where We Are in Real Time? Towering snow capped peaks, pristine wild beauty, rich First Nations culture & the densest population of marine mammals anywhere, few cruising grounds in the world measure up to the incredible remote coast of Northern British Columbia, Canada. This week we're exploring the beautiful Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw territory (Broughton Archipelago) on our 30ft floating home. Departing Sointula marina on Malcom Island, we have a rather spicey sail southeast across the Queen Charlotte Strait! We enjoy a beautiful downwind sail thru arrow passage, sailing all the way to iconic Echo Bay on Gilford Island. We'll be adventuring around this incredible sailing ground for the next little while before we continue our journey North to Alaska. We had blisters under the waterline, needed to repair the nut that holds the steering wheel in place, and we needed to shake our heads a few times because of some external stupidity, but we had a good time, working together. I realized I didn't edit our footage of the boat yard in the right order, so i needed to mess up the timeline a little :-) You can read Anja's blogs at https://www.anjakeesmaat.com/blog

The regatta was an idea that Colin from Parlay Revival had to bring the sailing and local community together . It was hectic, chaotic and quite competitive and even though we did not win, we had a lot of fun! We shouldn't have left on a Friday. Brazil doesn't want to let us go. We had a diesel leak on the first night of our passage going from Brazil to the Caribbean and we needed to go back to shore to fix it! HOW TO HEAVE TO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQTOfns6OjU Our crew: Ben @bsoof (insta) Friends in this episode: @SailingYaba @SailingTouche We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Finding my brother's killer - Sailing Cambodia Part 2 I grew up in the coastal town of Whakatane on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. At the age of twelve my father threw me into a p-class yacht and I learnt to sail for the first time. At the same time my eldest brother Kerry purchased a yacht of his own and set off from Darwin into South East Asia with his friend Stuart Glass and Kerry's girlfriend. Back then there was no social media, communication was very difficult, certainly not phone calls and the staple was letters. Kerry wrote wrote the most amazing letters and my dad would read the letters round the kitchen table, together. We lived vicariously by Kerry's adventures and it kind of planted a seed in my mind, at that time, that one day I too would go saying the seven seas and have adventures similar to my brother and I have. I was 14 years old when those beautiful letters from Kerry stopped. Time past and we had no idea what had happened to Kerry and his crew. My father wrote letters all around the South East Asia's ports looking for information, contacting friends, other sailors, nothing, we had no idea. We heard the devastating news sixteen months later. Kerry had been captured by The Khmer Rouge, taken prisoner back to Tuol Sleng prison, where he and his charter, and Englishman called John Dewhirst were tortured for two months, forced to sign confessions to being CIA, and were then executed. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill # sailing #familyhistory #Cambodia #KhmerRouge #thecruisingkiwis

Get ready to witness the most insane sailing adventure of our lives! We took on the worlds most treacherous waters in the Furious Fifties and captured every heart-stopping moment on camera. The furious 50s live up to their name! We go where few YouTubers have gone before as we sail around the world and make it into high latitudes. Brace yourself for this ultimate thrill ride for adrenaline junkies and sailing enthusiasts alike. Oh, and find out if Curtis and Kate perform a successful recovery during their offshore man over board drill. #SailingAdventure #Furious50s #ExtremeSailing About Us: We are two young racing sailors that decided to leave life on land and accomplish our goals of sailing around the world and learning about and experiencing different cultures. Now that our kit for S/V Lynx has arrived to build our 50' performance catamaran, we had to get all of the parts organized. We also realized that we could have done better in the unloading, so we did a postmortem look at receiving our boat parts from Schionning Designs. So, join us for a look at what we accomplished on our sailboat kit this week, and some information if you are going to build your own DIY catamaran. Marine electrical, woodworking, an epoxy pour, KP update, Akiva update, wood finishing and varnishing, hull fairing, bilge pump installation, navigation equipment, and spiffing up the shaper to do the big work of making the cherry wood grab rails for the interior. There's a lot going on in the shop, and to give you the inside baseball perspective, Steve has about four things going on so he can be working on something when people are working around and about the galley and he can't get to it. His main project, though, is definitely working out the stowage in the galley and rebuilding the elements that support the galley sink. Thank you very much for your support through our push to the water. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Ran-day is fast-forwarding his ownership series timeline to bring you a pretty special episode. His classic Scheel 45 sailboat is in Bristol, Rhode Island, which happens to be just down the road from Shannon Yachts. He stopped by Shannon Boat Company to say hello and then convinced Walter Schulz, the founder of Shannon Yachts, to come for a walk-through on his classic sailboat. Not only did Walter stop by, but had some straight talk about off-season priorities. ======= CAPT Q MERCH ===== https://www.etsy.com/shop/CaptainQYachtHunter ============== Support us ============== Like what we're doing & want to help??

Sailing into this remote group of islands off BC's Northern coast on our 30ft sailboat, we were greeted by enormous humpback whales swimming alongside our boat & dolphins riding the wake of our bow! Towering snow capped peaks, pristine wild beauty, rich First Nations culture and the densest population of marine mammals anywhere, few cruising grounds in the world measure up to this remote archipelago off the coast of Northern British Columbia, Canada. We'll be adventuring around this incredible sailing ground for the next little while before we continue our journey North to Alaska. This is a special place and it is near & dear to our hearts.. we cannot wait to share it with you THANK YOU for considering supporting our video creations! ►PATREON https://www.patreon.com/allisonandjames ►PAYPAL https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/james...
