#sharks #fiji #hurricaneharbor #hurricaneprep #market #weatherforecast #predictwind #sailing After meeting some friendly sharks in Fiji, we move onto Musket Cove and then Vuda marina to stock up on fruit and veg in the market at Laotoka. We are constantly checking the weather, waiting for a weather window to New Zealand and finally decide to go for it . This means getting all the last minute jobs done before the big passage which will take us deeper into the Southern Ocean. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life. We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Welcome to our latest video on essential yacht and tall ship maintenance! In this video, we introduce you to the acronym "IWOBBLED," so you won't miss any critical steps during your engine checks. Regular engine maintenance is crucial for the safety and efficiency of your vessel, and our easy-to-remember checklist will keep you on course. IWOBBLEDU stands for: I - Isolate • Isolate the engine from the batteries. • Remove the keys so the engine cannot be started. W - Water • Close engine seacock. • Inspect the sea strainer and ensure it is clear of debris. • Open engine seacock. • Inspect header tank/heat exchanger levels and top up to line if necessary. • Once you have finished all checks and are ready to start the engine, visually check the exhaust for water flow and the colour of exhaust fumes. If fumes are white, blue or black contact a member of permanent staff. O - Oil (Oil Including Lubricants) • Inspect oil level. • Inspect oil colour and viscosity. • Inspect Gearbox oil Level and colour. (if either is a milky colour, inform Skipper/Instructor). B - Belts • Inspect the Alternator belt and the water pump belt. • Visually inspect for signs of wear. • Physically inspect tension. (Turn the belt to 90. If it turns more than 90, the belt is loose and if it does not turn 90, it is too tight. Contact one of the permanent staff if there are adjustments to be made). B - Bilges • Visually Inspect the engine bilge for signs of leaks. If signs of leaks are visible locate the area of origin if possible and contact a member of permanent staff. • Clean the engine bilge of any water, oil or dirt before starting. • Monitor throughout the day. L -Leads • Visually inspect everything leading to and from the engine. • Inspect all pipework and wiring including fastenings looking for signs of damage, wear or corrosion. • Inspect fuel cut-off. • Inspect manual engine cut-off. E- Engine Mounts • Inspect engine mounts to ensure all bolts are secure. D- Diesel • Inspect diesel levels and ensure you have enough fuel for your trip plus 20% minimum. U- Un-isolate • Un-isolate the engine and visually check the battery levels. • Carry on with your start-up procedure and exhaust inspection. In this video, we'll walk you through each step, providing detailed explanations and practical tips to help you perform a thorough engine check. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or new to yacht maintenance, this guide will ensure your engine runs smoothly and reliably. A BETTER VIDEO IS AVAILABLE :-) PLEASE CLICK ON https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JtHwqKpfos This yacht has been sold. We wish the new owner many happy years on board! Arrábida is a wonderful two-mast one-off Pilothouse Schooner designed and built in the Netherlands. Arrábida is not just a bluewater cruiser with beautiful classic lines, teak laid decks, and an elegant green hull…. She is also, thanks to her strong aluminium hull, modern carbon rig and hydraulic systems, an excellent performer under sail. She is schooner rigged with a comprehensive sail wardrobe consisting of a fully battened main, staysail, spinnaker, topsail, a staysail on hydraulic furler from 2023, a Jib on hydraulic furler from 2023 and a Yankee on hydraulic furler from 2023. Further to that, hydraulic winches, carbon spi poles, hydraulic boomvang, and Frederiksen deck hardware. She is, furthermore, equipped with a 230hp Deutz diesel engine, hydraulic bow thruster, feathering propeller, generator, inverters, and a complete Raymarine navigation equipment from 2021. Additionally, a life raft, a tender with outboard from 2022, hydraulic windlass and numerous covers. The interior of this Pilothouse Schooner is just as well laid out as the exterior. The pilothouse that can be accessed from port and starboard side of the deck, features two seats and a forward-facing navigation- and pilot station. A few steps down are the well-equipped galley to starboard and another navigation station to port side. Again a few steps down you’ll end up in the full beam saloon with a dining area to starboard side and a lounge area to port side with a large U-shaped wrap-around sofa. Arrábida comfortably accommodates up to 8 guests. The master cabin with ensuite facilities and the guest cabin with bunk beds are located forward. The two other guest cabins have their own separate access from the pilot house and share the second bathroom. The interior is fitted out with all comforts, like a Webasto central heating system, Taylors stove diesel heater in the saloon, electric toilets, and a washer/dryer. This modern classic has only had two owners and has undergone professional maintenance, updates, and upgrades to ensure safe and comfortable cruises. A strong & reliable bluewater cruiser
** NOW SOLD ** 'Titouan' is a sought-after 2000 Beneteau Oceanis 50. The Beneteau 50 combines a Bruce Farr-designed hull with a tried-and-tested layout, proven over thousands of miles. Her fast hull has balanced lines for directional control. It is easily driven by her mainsail with lazy jacks and furling genoa trimmed with Lewmar 66 ST winches, enabling short-handed sailing. In 2020, 'Titouan' was upgraded with new rigging, an anchor chain, AGM batteries, four Solar Panels, and electronics from Raymarine. All seacocks were replaced with Tru Design, and electric toilets were fitted. The generous cockpit is fully shaded on deck with a solid composite bimini and windscreen, which is excellent for entertainment. The twin wheels allow easy access from the bathing platform to the cockpit and interior. Her mainsheet traveller is forward of the cockpit, out of harm’s way, and her electric halyard winch makes for easy sail handling, all from the safety of the cockpit. The sizeable forward sail locker, generous-sized cockpit, and lazarette lockers provide plentiful storage for all cruising gear. The interior layout features four double cabins, with two shower compartments forward and two aft toilets accessible from either the aft cabins or the saloon. All cabins offer substantial double berths and excellent locker space. The Beneteau 50 features a welcoming saloon and open-plan galley, with a central island that serves as an additional galley worktop and storage space and part of the seating arrangement. Cooking is on the gimballed hob and oven, and perishables can be stored in the substantial freezer and fridge (both new in 2020). Aft of the saloon is the dedicated navigation area with an electrical panel and VHF. This vessel is fully equipped for comfortable and safe cruising, boasting Raymarine instrumentation, including AIS Class B for enhanced safety, a Raymarine Axiom plotter at the Stbd helm, a 240v inverter, and a bow thruster. There are four water tanks with a total capacity of 1000l and two fuel tanks with a 500l capacity. 'Titouan' has recently been slipped at The Boat Works for detailing and anti-fouling (June ’24). This is an excellent opportunity to obtain a very realistically priced, pedigree Bluewater cruiser from the Beneteau yard, with sensible recent upgrades and maintenance.
The mini saga of our fuel tank and its many leaks, plus.. how we fixed them. Hopefully told in a mildly entertaining way. The diesel tank is on our sailboat and had been a source of misery until recently. Let me know what you think.
Sandetie is the only Imagine 50 released from the Alu Marine shipyard in 1994. An centerboard built in aluminum, it has only had 2 owners, the most recent having almost all the miles covered. A long-distance boat with no less than two and a half world tours under its belt, which has traveled the Pacific and Polynesia several times before staying there for a longer period and paying import taxes. This sailboat is perfectly manoeuvrable for two people, or even alone for someone experienced: The owner sailed alone on the Great Barrier Reef, the Torres Strait and the Arafura Sea to Darwin, i.e. 2,000 NM. A boat designed to be very comfortable at all times and at all speeds, which has benefited from meticulous care and methodical maintenance during all its stops: Trinidad, Tahiti, New Zealand, South Africa, Panama, etc… The boat is very well equipped, completely autonomous for offshore navigation and ready to set sail after a fairing and some aesthetic touch-ups. We embarked on our journey on a sunny Sunday morning, departing from Stromstad (Sweden) towards Stavern (Norway), a voyage of 32 nautical miles. After an early start and the usual preparations, including a stop at the fuel station, we set course for the open sea. The wind was favorable, allowing us to hoist all sails shortly after departure, and we reveled in a delightful day of sailing along the impressive Norwegian coastline. During our voyage, we passed several other sailboats and enjoyed a lunch of shrimp salad. Our dog Rif seemed to be adapting well to sailing life, thanks to the travel medication we had purchased for him. As evening approached, we decided not to continue to Larvik but instead anchored in the bay in front of Stavern harbor. After anchoring, we savoured a drink and a meal before taking the dinghy ashore to explore the picturesque town. We discovered an old shipyard and barracks that had been partially converted into a hospitality venue and creative centre. In the harbour, we admired a collection of beautifully maintained wooden sloops. The night was somewhat restless due to the swell, but our anchor held firm. We spent most of the following day in and around Stavern, cheering on the Colin Archer racers as they arrived. We took walks on land, visited some galleries, and enjoyed the sun on the aft deck. The subsequent day, we set course for a fjord, anchoring at Nystrand after a 19-mile journey. It was a beautiful location where we could swim and hike in the mountainous forest along the coast. We even spotted a seal on a rock. Our journey continued with short legs along the Norwegian coast, regularly anchoring in idyllic bays and fjords. We enjoyed the tranquility and beautiful nature, but occasionally sought out the liveliness of small coastal towns. One of the highlights was our visit to Kragerø, a town of about 10,000 inhabitants that serves as a hub for the local population and the many owners of summer cottages in the area. We moored at a jetty near the supermarket and explored the vibrant town with its many shops, restaurants, and ice cream parlours. Our voyage then took us to Risør, where we docked in the harbour after an 11-mile journey. We enjoyed the atmosphere in the town, took walks along the coastline, and had pleasant encounters with other sailors and curious children. A special moment was passing a Norwegian submarine in the fjord. Throughout our journey, we occupied ourselves with boat maintenance, planning our next destinations, and enjoying Norwegian coastal life. We adapted to the rhythm of the sea, made new friends, and relished the unique experiences that sailing along the Norwegian coast offered us. Our dog Rif continued to adapt to life on board, although he sometimes found the busier harbours a bit overwhelming. We took his needs into account and ensured regular walks on land. As we sailed from harbour to harbour, we always kept an eye on the weather conditions and available anchorages. We learned about the challenges of navigating between the rocks and islets of the Norwegian coast and appreciated the tranquillity of secluded bays as much as the conviviality of the coastal towns. Our journey was a mix of active sailing days, quiet anchoring days, and land explorations. We enjoyed Norwegian hospitality, the beautiful nature, and the unique experience of sailing in these northern waters. With each mile we covered, our appreciation for the Norwegian coast grew, as did our desire to discover even more.
In this week's video, we take a closer look at what we might be getting into with this hurricane-damaged Antares 44. Is it too much work? I think there is potential in this boat, but it will take a lot of work. Making a stack-pack / permanent sail cover for a 40ft Sailboat on a budget (170 Dollars)quick guide.
For a while we had wanted a stack pack but the cost of buying one is quite high so we made it onboard for around $170. Bargain !! Hope you enjoy and it gives the idea of what we did. A little quicker to use than a sail cover, all it now takes is an un-zip and we can hoist our sail. Enjoy! Having a cover cuts down on sailboat maintenance/ sail maintenance and repair cost from sailmakers. I think.

Sometimes the job list just doesn’t stand a chance — especially on a perfect sailing day. 😅 In this episode, I *intended* to clean the hull, but once I got out on the River Crouch… plans changed. With sunny skies, calm water, and just enough breeze, I opted for a chilled sail instead. 🌊 What’s inside: - Quick check-in on hull cleaning goals - Solo sail on the River Crouch - Reflections on balancing maintenance vs. enjoyment 🎥 Episode 26 aboard [Crazy Diamond] 📍 Location: River Crouch, East Coast UK Let me know: do you ever ditch the to-do list just to go sailing? #sailinguk #rivercrouch #boattasks #boatlife #sailingvlog #sailingescape Thats right... I go over the side into the murky river Crouch in an attempt to clean the hull and prop!! I fail miserably due to the temperature... and currents... oh and the fact I couldn't hold my breath for longer than 30 seconds! We continue our journey up and down the river Crouch, ground from Burnham Marina to Fambridge Moorings and then back again ready for our departure. We take a very slow down wind sail in company on the best weekend of the year so far! Weather great, wind, minimal.. I also have a rant regarding the power boaters who deem it FairPlay to blast past at 20kts in a 20m vessel... not good.. saw a fisherman nearly flipped out of his small boat.. As I mention I love a powerboat as much as the next person BUT I don't like the lack of consideration for others especially bordering on dangerous!! Next time we will be sailing back and may even film a little cooking... Thank you as always for giving us your time and sharing our trips! Love Carl, Charlie and Lillia xx

Description: Time to get real with how we are feeling about living aboard after 7 months on our 1987 Prout Snowgoose 37 Sailing Catamaran! This weeks episode we take an adventure to get groceries, meet some Patrons in real life, and of course, do more maintenance on our boat. But that last part really never ends. Michaela also takes a moment to talk about how she is feeling when it comes to living aboard and what we think about the future. There is every possibility that watching this video could lead one to become an oyster farmer. This week, after motoring out of Rockland to escape the heat, Steve pays a visit to an oyster farm on North Haven Island. Adam Campbell of North Haven Oyster Company has been working on getting his 25-year-old oyster farm to operate plastic-free wherever possible. In the process, he's found that the oysters really appreciate his efforts. If you are looking to explore oyster farming yourself, our good friends Scott and Jack have teamed up to make the Atlantic Cedar oyster crates seen in this video available to the public. Check out http://oysterhavencrates.com to find out more. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Merhaba, BVI Bermuda geçişi ardından 4 günlük molayı St George’s de verdik. ARC tekneleri de gelmişler. Marinalar dolu. Avare.
After travelling up the coast and arriving in Baiona we started the seasons maintenance with bad weather forecast the following day.
For the past three years we have used a kayak to get to and from our sailboat. We had always wanted a nesting dinghy but to buy one new cost many thousands, so we decided to upcycle an old fishermans' dinghy and have something well suited to our sailboat layout. In our lifestyle inflatable dinghies are higher maintenance and solid wins out. Made on a budget, this is a little descriptive video of how we made it.
*** This is NOT a paid promotion*** Sailtime is a fractional ownership program where you share an assigned boat with other people for a monthly fee. We are SailTime members and enjoy all the conveniences of boat ownership without the hassles of boat maintenance, repair, insurance, and slip fees. Several times a year, SailTime Newport Beach, has raft-ups. Multiple boats anchor, and then additional vessels tie off to them using fenders. It's a lot of fun checking out the boats and meeting other SailTime members.
