We'd organized a tour with a local dive company (it's illegal to swim with them on your own) and got incredibly lucky as we found a mother, her calf and an accompanying male. We probably spent an hour and a half in the water with them and the calf put on quite a show for us! After our whale swim, we spent another week enjoying Tonga with several boats who all had crews all under the age of 40. Keep an eye out, you may see a few familiar faces! ;) We had a great time with the group I jokingly referring to as the "Kid's Table Club" but eventually the wind filled in enough that it was time for us to leave Tonga. We started out with a bit of on the water exploration via kayak and an amazing snorkel. But what really impressed us was the hiking. We did two main hikes. One on the island of Hunga where we traversed the whole of the island in a day, seeing the village at one end and a beach on the other. The other was back outside the main town of Neiafu where we hiked Mount Tala'u and we learned all about how mischievous spirits played a part in the local geography. This video is about...If you’ve never worked on engines before it’s quite a steep learning curve when it comes to troubleshooting. For over two years, and after a major refit, our trusted Westerbeke Generator has never failed us. That is, until recently! Unfortunately, we experienced a marine diesel engine starting problem. After pre-heating the starter and then turning the engine on, all we could hear was tick-tick-tick-tick-tick (check out the video). It sounded as if the starter motor was trying to start the engine, but it just wouldn't kick over. #Porsche356 #356ColdStart #Porsche Watch as we do a Cold Start on our 1958 Porsche 356 A Cab after not running for several weeks. This is an original Porsche 356A car (not a replica, or a speedster). It isn’t difficult, but with the carburetors completely dry and using the original fuel pump, it can take up to a minute of cranking to start. This is an important step as it lubricates the engine with a minimum of load on the internal rotary bits. We have an Optima 6V battery installed that we keep on a Battery Tender so it is always fully charged and cycled. The starter is in good shape and had its shaft bushing replaced the last time we replaced the clutch a few years ago. After the car is running, we go for a nice little ride on some of the back roads here in Colorado. I try to get all the cars out at least once a month weather permitting during the winter to keep them fresh. We hope you enjoyed this little Cold Start and Drive video. They were looking for volunteer boats to assist in their observations of humpback whales off the coast of Niue and we immediately knew we wanted to volunteer. Unfortunately for us (but fortunately for them!) the word had spread so well that they had an abundance of volunteers and only ended up needing Starry Horizons for one day. Most of the volunteer boats were monohulls, so they took advantage of having a catamaran to invite local students out for a day on the water. It was a lot of fun learning more about humpbacks, including what researchers do to track the whales, but the best part of the whole day was being serenaded by a few of the whales we followed! In this video, we go over how to repair a flat tire without removing the wheel and using a spare. There are several advantages to this – In the case of the MINI S, there is no spare tire. Also, if you don’t have to jack up the car, there is less danger and less heavy tools involved. In addition, it can be faster and the prep work can be done inside the car if the weather is bad. Some may wonder about the longevity of a tire plug, and you should probably get the tire serviced as soon as possible, but I have gone an entire season with a plugged tire without any issues at all. If you live in an area that is prone to leaving things in your tires and you aren’t using your car for track work, it can be a very cost effective way to get back on the road quickly and safely. Plugs cannot be used on the side of the tire or if the hole is more of a slice. They can only be used in the flat tread area. The plugs can be a bit of a struggle to get in and I think a good bit of rubber glue can help you get the plug in easier. Make sure to ream the hole a good bit and change out your tire kit from time to time. Eambrite just sent me their Hydraulic Jack and this thing is pretty cool. The company says you could change your tire on the car in 5 minutes, I have to agree with this, it really did make everything super simple. This roadside emergency kit comes with everything you need to get your tire off on the spare on. If you don't have a spare you can add a plug kit and then inflate your tire with this kit as well. This is great for your wife, daughter, aging parents, grandparents, and people with disabilities.
