Whilst he is doing this we isolate the power and the solar panels to the batteries so that when he leaves Liz can tend to her job of checking the batteries. The row of shops and restaurants to the north of Telaga marina have a certain continental feel to them, especially as the bakery does fantastic pastries. We wander down to Mare Blu and take a seat looking out across the bay. Just up the road from Telaga is the baffling named... Pantai Kok. Heading further north still, past the famous cable car, are the Seven Wells. This is a trek up the mountain to a fresh water bathing station, but first we have to sit out the rain. The rain continues so we buy a couple of umbrellas and make our way up the concrete steps to the Seven Wells (not the seven waterfalls, stupid). By the time we get there, the rain has stopped. Much to the distress of the general public Jamie slips on his trunks and takes a dip in one of the pools. Over the years the constant stream of water has smoothed the rock faces and created gulleys that allow visitors to slip and slide down into the pools beneath. Not wanting to miss out, I strippped to my underwear and joined Jamie in the fun On the way back from the Seven Wells, in between Pantai Kok and Kuala Periang is a little fishing village we like to pop in to from time to time. We climb the little footbridge to take in the views. Our final stop before heading back to the boat is Legenda Park, situated between Kuah's main mosque and the jetty. This manicured treasure is under-rated, perhaps because most people don't like to be out in the midday sun, yet there are many covered walkways to perambulate. The park has some interesting and sometimes amusing water features and a large part of the park is put aside for swings and slides, so it's a great place to bring the kids. For the adults there's plenty of flora to discover. We return to the park in the evening and catch all kinds of creatures lit up by coloured lights in the trees. Enough swanning around Langkawi. Gunung Raya... We take you on a trip of the beautiful holiday island of Langkawi and show you why it is so popular with sailboat owners and holiday makers. We go for a drive through the rainforests and check out the highest point on Langkawi. Most tourists aim straight for Langkawi's famous cable car "SkyCab". But that isn't the highest point on the island. The highest point is a well-kept secret that you won't find in any of the travel brochures, and whilst the Sky Cab is tucked away on the north west corner of Langkawi, the highest peak is in the centre of the island and offers, in our opinion, the best views all round... At the top is a look-out tower and secluded hotel. Gunung Raya has 360 degree views: North and east towards Thailand, south over the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club and neighboring Pulau Tuba, west down the main channel from Bass Harbour and north west over to the Butang Islands. At such an altitude the temperature is noticely cooler and well worth the drive. After our trip to Gunung Raya a we drive north east and head to Tanjan Rue. Here you'll find the Scarborough Fish and Chips restaurant, run by local man Dylan. Dylan spent six years living in Leeds in the UK, and every weekend would head to Britain's famous seaside resort, Scarborough... for fish and chips, of course. He returned to Langkawi and now runs this extremely popular restaurant whick offers some fantastic views of neighbouring Taratao Island and mainland Thailand. For some unknown reason, it always seems to rain whenever we visit. As we head back to the marina we take in another little secret area in the south east corner of the island called Kampung Penarak. This is a tiny fishing village popular with local people. It has a beautiful beach and a few residents living by the shore. We meet Anwar, a local man who rents a beach hut by the sea, next to a small piece of land he owns and is looking to sell for development. Langkawi has three marinas: Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, Telaga and Rebak Island. RLYC is the closest to town and therefore the easiest from which to provision. During 2015 it is undergoing a major refit which means part of the club is now closed. For those staying there during the refit the workers are building a temporary dinghy dock. We bump into Azrin, the marina manager, who explains what's going on. It's Saturday, and after scrubbing the decks we head into Kuah town to find those Morse cables. Multiquip is a well-stocked hardware store that covers most yacht-related bases. Since we're in town we check out the market. Pantai Chenang is the most popular spot for tourists. Sadly over the three years we've been coming to visit its development seems to be getting out of hand. Small beach bars have closed down and land is being handed over to the corporate property developers. The main strip boasts all the usual restaurants and watering holes. Despite this, it's a great spot to watch the sunset and forget about boaty problems like leaking fuel pipes. Oh, sorry, didn't we mention that? This week, Team SCA bowman Sophie finds out if she makes the team for Leg 5. Previous leg winners MAPFRE enjoy a friendly fishing competition while Dongfeng Race Team is off scuba diving. Le déplacement (5,8 t) est inchangé : c’est deux fois moins que la plupart des catamarans de cette longueur ! Et c’est justement la taille compacte, l’aisance de manœuvre et la facilité de maintenance qui constituent également les atouts de cette superbe machine. L’ORC 42 est toujours amusant à barrer et performant en régate. Le style dépouillé des aménagements, combiné à une ergonomie soignée, n'empêche nullement le ressenti cocooning appréciable en grande croisière. The displacement (12,800 lbs/5.8 t) is unchanged: this is half that of most catamarans of this length! And it is precisely the compact size, ease of handling and ease of maintenance that are also the assets of this superb machine. The ORC 42 is always fun to helm and performs well racing.
