I spend on average $2000 travelling, most of which is gas, some repairs, food, and on average less than $200 on any eating out, shopping or extra curricular expenditures. Sony A7ii, Nikon D810, Sony RX100 iii, DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, Rode Videomic with Deadcat, Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, Underwater Housing, tripods and lights. - What is your van? 1992 Dodge B350 Travelhome with the 5.9L TBI gas engine. I spent $3500 buying it and so far another $9000 in repairs upgrades and maintenance. - What're your plans? Travel forever. The Arctic this summer, Asia next winter, Sailboat the world after. I want to see this whole world, and I'm playing it all by ear. - How do you find all these cool places? I cover all the windows with reflectix panels I made for insulation, I turn my fantastic sucking air out on max (replaces all the air in the van every 90 seconds). I crack one window in a shaddy lower part of the van to create a consistent airflow. Other than that the fiberglass roof and insulation do a fantastic job of keeping the heat out. In colder climates I set the furnace on at minimum and close down all the windows same as for heat minus venting. - What happened to the girl? I've spent some quality time homeless, I've struggled financially most of my life, and although I'm blessed with great friends and family as well as being able bodied white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to travel the world. You need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, time with family, and often your career but it is possible. - Why don't you have 10x more subscribers? My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. The Astrolab Reef area is one of the more remote parts of Fiji and we had to do our first kava ceremony in order to receive permission from the local chief to anchor off the island of Dravuni. Although it doesn't stop marine growth (we keep our boat in an extremely high marine-growth area) it does prevent it from attaching properly so you can scrape months of growth off with a few hours hard work and a mask and snorkel. This kind of bottom paint is so hard that it will resist years of these scraping treatments, without having to be repainted. This means your annual antifouling and haulout fees are exactly $0 (This is our favourite price!) Some viewers have suggested wearing ear plugs while you do this so that marine life doesn't move into your ear. The first part of his trip saw us exploring the largest island of Fiji: Viti Levu. We visited museums, learned the proper “Fijian Style” technique for diving off a rope swig and ran all over the Sigatoka Sand Dunes. But our wildest adventure was the drive out to and the hike up Mount Tomanivi, the highest peak in all of Fiji. The drive itself took several hours on highly suspect roads, but if it’s possible the hike itself was even crazier. It took us over two hours to climb the 600 meters up to the summit and we battled through steep inclines, streams, rain and the resulting mud. These are the kind of adventures we love and the view from the top made everything more than worth it. O-ring splicing kits are cheap and if you have one on board you can make a perfectly sized o-ring in minutes. This video shows me making two o-rings to fix a leaking faucet on our small sailing boat. This O-Ring splicing kit is made of Black Buna-N, has a durometer of 70A, and includes 9 pieces of o-ring cord in metric cross sections, 1 meter of cord per piece. The cord has a Round cross-section and can be used across a wide temperature range from -67 degrees F (-55 degrees C) to 257 degrees F (125 degrees C). The splicing kit comes in a plastic box with lid card, instructions, cord stock, splicing jig, cutting tool, and adhesive. The kit includes the following cord sizes: 1 Meter of 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm, 5mm, 5.7mm, 8.4mm O-Ring Cord Stock. Buna-nitrile can have high tensile strength, as well as abrasion, tear, and compression set resistance. It is compatible for use with petroleum, hexafluoroacetone (HFA), hexafluoro-2-butyne (HFB) and hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) fluids, vegetable oil, alcohol, acids, and aliphatic hydrocarbons. After waiting for a month for the Haringvliet bridge to open again after extensive maintenance, we could finally sail our boat to its new marina. But in the meantime winter had arrived and the temperature had dropped to below zero. Over 3 days, we had 5 hook ups and lost all of them, along with 3 lures. Professional deep sea fishermen we are not. Watch, learn from our mistakes and perhaps offer a bit of advice! The passage itself was a good one, with fairly easy sailing. We got to sail wing on wing for a while, but had the most fun when it clocked around to a beam reach. But the best part of the passage? When some dolphins showed up to welcome us to Fiji. This is also an extremely exciting video as it is the first one where Amy did most of the editing. Welcome to episode 4! This is the first of two episodes based in the Caribbean yachting centre of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin. This week we enter Simpson Bay Lagoon and get settled in the anchorage for a week of boat maintenance, buying new boat toys and getting stuck into the social scene (hello $1 beers!). We're very excited to buy a new RIB and outboard which allows us to zip around the lagoon like no-one's business. We also get front row seats to some windy weather-related drama, namely a yacht dragging its anchor and being rescued by the coast guard, and a superyacht having a world of trouble getting into the marina. After a fun night out at our new 'local', Lagoonies, we return home to find our masthead lights are not working- you know what that means! Yes, a trip up the mast for Terysa to change the bulbs over.
