We are launching into planking soon but before we get into all that, we really wanted to do a little house cleaning video. We get so many questions about the project and it's not always easy to address them all in the subsequent videos. So, right now seemed like a good time to answer a few of those questions and clear them up before moving into another chapter of the build. We'll be talking about the weight of the floors, the engine, how we measure in the vessel, talk about one of our friend's restoration projects, a few new major tools we were just kindly donated, what rig we are going with and why.... and finally, we address the common comment about replanting trees. We love the fact that you all have such good questions regarding the build and are that engaged with what we are doing. We love sharing this and hope that you enjoy the information in this video despite the lack of work being shown. Trust us, there is PLENTY of fun stuff coming up! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are also launching our newest shirt campaign for summer of 2019 which will feature the planking tools on the back. If you are interested in purchasing those, orders will be taken at the link below for the next two weeks and then shipped once the campaign closes. Thank you for the support!! Red Potato Salad Seasoned with Sweet Balsamic Vinegar And Dill Weed! Perfect For Your Next Party! No Eggs or Mayonnaise! See Recipe Here: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/balsamic-dill-red-potato-salad/ Balsamic Dill Red Potato Salad is a simple No Egg and No Mayonnaise Potato Salad. This Salad is perfect for a party because it won't spoil when it's left out! The Balsamic Dill and Garlic marinade soaks up into the potatoes and creates loads of delicious flavor! We use Green Bell Peppers for the crunch like pickles but with no overwhelming pickle taste, we give the pickled taste with an herb called Dill Weed! Our Balsamic Dill Red Potato Salad was inspired by our Sweet Dijon Red Potato Salad, YUM! We like to use Red Potatoes because they are creamier and create a sauce that coats all the potatoes. Following Simon Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/finding_simon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/findingsimon Website: http://simonstiles.com/ Asking Simon - Who are you? I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

We enjoy some cold beers as we do a bit of boat polishing in bikini. Could spring actually be here? Then it's time to apply the antifouling paint because we're going back into the water at the end of the week. We are so looking forward to this after these long months of Canadian winter. And talk about a surprise, we are snorkeling in the boat. Now that we have all the floors fabricated and the majority installed, there are 4 more very important ones to focus on. The ones that tie the ballast keel to the keel timber. These four floors in the middle of the vessel will hold the bolts that capture the 4.5 ton keel and keep it connected to the center line. We will be installing these very important bolts using a keyhole slot method instead of drilling all the way through to the bottom of the ballast keel. This will allow us to have access to the nuts and washers in the future, if needed, without having to dig a hole under the keel or jacking the entire vessel up. To cut the keyhole slots, we drill into the lead and chisel and carve out a pocket large enough to accept the nuts and washers before tightening the whole thing down. Not the easiest of tasks! Danielle knocked it out of the park with this game day delight. I was kinda a dip hog after the creation of this recipe, it was just so good! Recipe Link: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/creamy-dilly-garlic-dip/ Delicious Homemade Creamy Dip for Vegetables, Crackers and chips! The Dill and Garlic give it the zest of Ranch Dressing! Dips are great for adding flavor to boring vegetables, crackers or even chips! We love to create our own dips and sauces because they are budget friendly and you can control the ingredients that go in them. Our Vegetable/Cracker/Chip Dip is perfect for parties! This sauce was inspired by our Delicious Sour Cream Garlic Sauce for Tacos, Hamburgers and Fish! We added Yogurt to give it a tad of tartness which pairs well with vegetables! We planned to complete TWO big projects while in Mobile, AL: 1) upgrading our battery bank & 2) fabricating a solar arch with dinghy davits. After much deliberation, we decided to DIY the batteries and hire out the arch fabrication. The battery bank and electrical system upgrade was nothing to sneeze at. But Kirk took it on with his characteristic analytical approach, meticulously planning out the new wiring in a digital diagram first before making any cuts to our costly large-gauge battery cables. Unfortunately, the fabrication of our arch doesn’t go as smoothly. The metal fabricator told us he needed only a couple of weeks to complete the project and assured us of his prior experience building arches just like ours. As the days go by, we become less and less sure of either of his claims. Decisions about our electrical project and solar panels rest on the completion of the arch, and as each promised date of completion slides by on the calendar, our faith in the project dries up. We're back at the request of our viewers with another big old boat tour! This time we tour a 1982 Shannon 50. We really like the design of this yacht and believe it to have a lot of potential as a full-time live aboard cruiser for a couple or a small family.
How To Flush and Bleed your Brakes By Yourself! Porsche996 , Porsche 996 Turbo Brakes , Bleed Ceramic Brakes Hi Everyone, We take a little "brake" from the 911 3.2 Carrera project to bleed the brakes on the 996 Turbo. Super easy and anyone can do this by themselves. The whole process should take an hour or so. A word about the bleeder I used... The Motive Power Bleeder would not hold pressure. I even tried completely cleaning and using silicone grease, but the valve just gives way. I was able to get the job done, but there was a bit of having to pump and pump... We wintered in Almerimar marina on the Costa del Sol. Although Almerimar is probably more famous for it's miles of greenhouses and Golf Resort, we explored further afield and went walking in the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Alcazaba of Almeria. We also enjoyed the beach, the kite surfers and tried out the local skate park. PLEASE NOTE: YouTube have disabled comments on family channels because they sometimes feature kids. Looking at these Suncast Panels to hide our air conditioner "AC" from the view of our pain in the butt HOA. If you like this one, get it here: https://amzn.to/2MwDlgj We had one before and either the wind or a neighbor got it! These are great to hide things from view, really easy to install, durable, and look great. During the install of this one, we beat the top of the fence with a hammer sinking it into our sandy soil and it did not break. I wish the stakes were longer for places with sandy soil and a chance for hurricanes, but it does what we need it to. Stripping boat paint, especially bottom paint; Heat Gun? Stripper? sandblasting? Scraping? Chemical Stripper? grinding? This video is about removing old bottom paint from fiberglass boats and sailboats, and what method to use, and why. Stripping boat paint involves the right Power Tools- but which tool to use for a bottom job? ...preparing the bottom of a Sailboat for new antifouling paint or Coppercoat? First, we must remove the bottom paint and do a complete bottom job including new epoxy barrier coat to prep for antifouling. Patrick shows the power tools and hand tools he uses for maintenance and repairs as he begins the repair and restoration for a new kind of anti foul paint for us, diy. This is a “how to”, tutorial, sailboat restoration project; a do it yourself sailing video about prepping a sailboat for Coppercoat, antifouling, and how to remove bottom paint. It’s not easy to Do, but Patrick shows how to sand off bottom paint, how to remove bottom paint by using heat guns to take the old paint off a fiberglass hull, and why we couldn’t sandblast! Lots of boat work, and repairing the hull of all of these resin blisters. He also puts the headsail profurl Head stay back on, since it will take a while for sailboat maintenance this time! Sailboat restoration and renovation in Africa! WARNING: WARNING WARNING Using a heat gun to remove bottom paint is questionable, and you should do research yourself if this is the best method to remove antifouling paint from your sailboat. Damage to underlying gelcoat is a Concern, as is the carcinogenic fumes that are created when bottom paint is heated. When fiberglass is heated, it can do damage. Removal with the lowest possible heat is preferable. Working with a very helpful local company in Capetown, and Durban, South Africa called ”AMT Composites” (https://www.amtcomposites.co.za), we are now choosing the proper fiberglass and epoxy materials to build the fiberglass layers up again. Our power tools are being repaired by a local company that fixes our tools almost as fast as we break them: http://www.baypowertools.co.za/ We will get this boat ready for our next Ocean, to continue sailing around the world on our 1976 Valiant 40 sailboat possibly to Brazil and Uruguay, and maybe Tierra Del Fuego! This circumnavigation will be at least 15 years! We sprayed the boat with a pressure washer to remove the growth, and then thought about which antifoul removal tool we should use, and researched how to remove old antifouling paint. The cost to remove the Bottom paint and for sanding antifouling paint from gelcoat, and then we had to decide on the best sander for removing bottom paint. “Removal easy off” was one chemical paint stripping product, but was not available here, nor were we impressed with it. . The cost to remove bottom paint was a factor too.Why isnt there a special antifoul removal tool that would make it easy? This isn’t the same as how to paint bottom paint a boat for the first time! How to remove antifouling paint, sanding antifouling, soft or hard antifouling, and the best antifouling paint for fiberglass is a consideration. Looking at the Coppercoat data sheet, and studying Coppercoat problems, and not wanting to get involved with recoating Coppercoat anytime soon, we need to remove the antifouling completely! How to remove old antifouling paint can be easy with the right power tools for boat work. Sailing Around the World does need to include working in boatyards to keep the boat Seaworthy! The prep is over with and it is finally time to install the bronze floors! We have invested so much time, energy and money in these and it is such a gratifying feeling to finally see them put in place. In the end, the installation went very smoothly and they all fit rather nicely. Other than having some issues with breaking the jig we made to drive the hanger bolts a couple of times, there really weren't any big crazy moments to film here. Hopefully you enjoy watching the install as much as we enjoyed the smooth process on our end! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. We're back at the request of our viewers with another big old boat tour! This time we tour a 1985 Cheoy Lee 43, a sailboat that Randi and I have been wanting to tour for some time now. We really like the design of this yacht and believe it to have a lot of potential as a full-time live aboard cruiser for a couple or a small family. This particular boat is the single-masted cutter-rigged model, as opposed to the more common ketch rig. Please let us know in the comments below if you'd like to see more interesting old boats! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Make sure you make an informed decision on your next boat with this tool: http://sailingsoulianis.com/shop/ltl-boat-buying-dashboard/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interested in this boat? Never a dull day on the hard, especially when you suit up to start sanding our boat for bottom paint. Then realize you look like a smurf before grabbing a cold beer. Unfortunately we are still waiting for Lake Erie to melt but it gives us more time to tackle some projects. From installing our 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter to fixing some leaks and enjoying the Sugarloaf marina fauna. We're getting closer to finally launching. And it's funny to think that a year ago we were just moving into our sailboat. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #sandingsailboathull #sailboatlife #wildlyintrepidsailing ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by donating. https://www.paypal.me/wildlyintrepid ***************************************** Want to know how we did it? Not only are we adding new antifouling to our bottom, but we're testing out a NEW silicone paint for our propeller! We hope you like boat work, because this episode is jam packed with it! More specifically, focusing on the bottom of our boat. The winds and rains have died down enough to give us two perfect days to get our bottom covered with anitfouling before we go back in the water. Switching over to new Seajet paints, Matt gives an explanation of why we chose them and why they should be the best for our boat and the waters we'll be sailing in. Then, it's time to get to work! One coat of primer and three coats of antifouling later, the bottom is *almost* ready. We just need a little work on the prop, where, also from Seajet, we're trying a new silicone paint on our propeller. It should let growth just slip right off, and that will be great for us keeping up speed. Much love from The Azores! Jessica, Matt & Georgie Thank you SO MUCH to our Patrons. In this episode; Well Guatemala continues to challenge us as you will see in part 2 of our arrival at the Rio Dulce. We were lucky to have this unique footage to put into an episode. In times of stress and danger picking up the camera to try and capture the action is not high on our minds. Keeping us and the boat safe is always the priority. Luckily young Braiden was there to pick up the camera and follow the action as it unfolded. It's a little rough and bouncy at times because the action was fast and furious, but he did a pretty good job and thanks to his help, the story you are about to watch is pretty exciting and probably not something you get to see everyday Lol! Reality TV for sure. It doesn't get much more real. My audio editing is a little off in the episode because my blue snowflake brand microphone has recorded it's last episode and I have been having trouble finding a new one. Consequently I have had to use the Macbook's built in microphone. Guatemala is an amazing and vast country with so many spots to explore. We're excited to begin our adventures exploring here, but let's get on with the video and show you just how crazy our entry into the country really was...! Cheers. Brad, Krista and Cole TRIO Sorry.
