This week we get some cranking speeds in light winds behind Fraser Island while discussing something we'd overlooked over the last couple of months flying our cruising spinnaker! Had you picked up on it? Once at Kingfisher Bay, we go on a whale watching tour with our friend Josh who runs Hervey Bay Whale Watch (https://www.herveybaywhalewatch.com.au/) before sailing down the Sandy Straits to discover shipwrecks and ruins. Make sure you grab your very own Free Range Sailing T Shirt or Hoodie before our campaign ends on 4 December 2019. You don’t need a lot of money to sail around the world. All it really takes is a lot of hard work. But does that mean working long hours with no days off? Or is there another way? In this episode we take you with us through our daily routine while working on the boat and getting Atticus ready for the Pacific crossing. We tackle some small projects like replacing a bilge bump, installing a bilge and engine alarm, and designing a solution for our deck level navigation lights. Mark Jardine, Managing Editor of Sail-World.com and YachtsandYachting.com, caught up with RORC Chief Executive Eddie Warden Owen to find out more about Cherbourg becoming the finish destination of the Rolex Fastnet Race in 2021 and 2023.
Few boats can match the X-Yachts Cruising range when it comes to finding everything you need to sail in safety and luxury anywhere in the world. Built for the high latitudes and some of the most trying oceans conditions you may encounter, they are also sleek and fast. The sail plan has been created specifically for long distance cruising. The Xc 50 is also easily sailed short-handed, with under-deck halyards led aft to self-tailing winches (including electric primary winch already installed with all other winches pre-wired) and a secure central console. At first glance, this magnificent vessel, which we first encountered docked at Whangarei Marina, revealed herself to be nothing short of a head-turner. Gleaming with her just-polished epoxy gelcoat and multitude of stainless steel deck fittings (even the anchor controls are stainless steel, as are all the winches..), reinforced glass wind shield, strong davits and top quality running rigging tidily coiled or invisible, quite simply looked like the ultimate luxury yacht. However, this Xc 50 is not just beautiful to behold, she hides, beneath her graceful lines the strength and qualities of a very serious extreme explorer. This is for this reason that this French family with two young children decided on this model after years of research and experience as professional sailors. This was for many reasons the best boat for their planned journey, which took them from France to the antipodes over 27,000 nautical miles, across some of the wildest oceans of the world, deep into the 40's and 50's latitudes, across the Atlantic, the windy canals of Patagonia, into the Pacific and across to New Zealand over a two year period. For more about this amazing family you can watch our second video on 'Gaia', which accessed by just clicking on the end screen link. Enjoy!

You definitely don’t need an engine to sail around the world. We made the decision early on to have a reliable, bullet proof engine because we believe it opens up doors to experiences that we couldn’t have otherwise. It can be hard spending time and money on boat improvements for which we don’t experience a direct benefit. But someday those improvements may just save our lives. In this episode Jordan installs a second fuel pick up for our fuel tank as well as a parallel bypass fuel filter system. What happens when Mark Zona, bass fisherman and host of Zona's Awesome Fishing Show, encounters a dead battery on his fishing boat when out with his kids? They call TowBoatUS! Thankfully they had a BoatUS Towing Membership. After calling, a helpful captain was soon there to give them a tow back to the dock. Mark says that having BoatUS towing gave him a lot of peace of mind, particularly when being out of sight of land, and he says his kids will never be without a membership. For just $159 a year for saltwater (or $85/year for freshwater), you can be sure you have help at the touch of a button using the BoatUS App, or just a phonecall or VHF hail away. A BoatUS Towing membership covers engines that won't start, dead batteries, running out of fuel, and soft ungroundings. Without BoatUS Towing, you could pay upwards of $750 per tow! ***** We invite you to our www.SailOceans.com to follow along and leave comments. Only there can we guarantee to remain open and available with a clear and crisp voice unaltered by the corporate communism censors. ***** https://sailoceans.com/how-we-can-save-coral-reefs-and-humanity-from-destruction/ You probably got a chance to witness the beauty and majesty of the coral reefs. Unfortunately, experts believe that as much as 75 percent of the world’s coral reefs are in danger because of water temperature rising, excess carbon dioxide in the water and other types of pollution also caused by our lifestyle. As we travel and visit many places and see an underwater environment as well it is heartbreaking to see damaged coral reefs, lots of plastic floating in the ocean, very often stuck on the corals. While we were sailing in the Grenadines and had this thought that we need to record a video and spread it to the world to bring awareness to our daily routine behaviors to save our planet or at least stop devastating. The very next day we met Eugen Babau who runs a marine conservation foundation and one of their projects is restoring coral reefs. We couldn't resist to make an interview with him and raise this extremely important topic and discuss the state of coral reef and what we all can do everyday to save coral reefs and our planet. Please, watch and share this video to raise awareness in everyday life. Some of the steps we can take are not big ones but REALLY DO MATTER when lots of us do the same! In the next episode we invite you to join us underwater in Petit Saint Vincent to see amazing work that Eugen and his colleagues do! We were so lucky to observe them while they plant new coral! Thank you Eugen ❤️ Lots of love. Ania & Bartek 🙏 We are a Polish family (Ania, Bartek, Kuba and Julian) traveling around the world with our floating home, as a way to promote an alternative lifestyle outside the system. In our episodes, we want to inspire you to a conscious life, to reach your own needs, feelings, not to put your dreams (small and large) to "sometime", and bring awareness into our lives. Your support shows us that this awakening of awareness about life outside the system is needed and you want more! The life we have chosen not only means traveling the world, adventures, meeting people and places. It is very exciting, and at the same time sharing it with our children makes this journey taste even more! But! We want to inspire you to go beyond traditional schemes and programs to feel for yourself, what you want in life and just do it. If you feel that our creation is valuable to you, brings something to your everyday life and would like to contribute to the growth of our channel, our production, we will be grateful for your gratitude. We have prepared a lot of extras for our patrons, we invite you to a closed group on facebook "The LOVE Boat - SailOceans Patrons Community", where we publish additional content, videos, also those censored by YT police, and there we will also share our experience with you and answer your questions about an alternative way of life, raising children, sailing, ecology and awareness of everyday life, including spirituality, meditation, tantra, sexuality, openness, life in harmony with environment and equal treatment for all people in general without prejudice and with openness, and many other subjects that are censored by the corporate "thought police". Thank you with all our hearts for your commitment and involvement and we're repaying with ours ❤️
It's time to say goodbye to the Great Barrier Reef and continue our journey south to Hervey Bay behind Fraser Island. We wanted to join in the annual whale migration and we got even more than we bargained for! As well as whale encounters, you can sail with us in the cockpit and marvel at Pascale working the galley at 7 knots. We absolutely love getting off the beaten path, exploring remote islands, and living off the sea. It’s our favorite aspect of the sailing lifestyle. But in order to do this, we need to have an extremely reliable outboard engine. If it breaks down in the middle of nowhere, not only does it mean not having fun, but we could also be stranded miles from the boat. Ever wonder what a cruising outboard looks like after 5 years of heavy use? In this episode Jordan does a full inspection of our Tohatsu 8HP 4 stroke outboard engine. We also get to have couple drinks on a beautiful beach with @SailingSophisticatedLady !
