People typically row facing backwards because our body anatomy makes it easier to pull the oars through the water rather than push them. When you row facing backwards, you can use the strong muscles in your lower body, back, and shoulders. But the tradeoff is that you can't see where you're going, and continually have to look to either side to keep yourself on course. This means you might end up rowing more strokes than you really need to, tiring yourself or straining your neck in the process. The Forward Facing Rowing System makes it possible to face forward while rowing, using the same motion and strong lower body muscles that you use when you row facing backward. Having your eyes on your destination makes it easier to row in a straight line, saving you physical effort and time. The Nordhavn N60 is a full displacement expedition trawler that was developed as a yacht that an owner/operator can literally cross oceans in. With a boat of this nature, several considerations come in to play, safety, strength of build, and enough storage for spending weeks onboard without visiting a grocery store, or for that matter, even seeing dry land.

The day has finally come to pull our masts, and we’ve got a LOT of work to do to get Atticus ready. We remove the main and mizzen sails and booms and loosen up our standing rigging. With each cotter pin that we remove we get a little more anxious about making a mistake. Once we make it to the boatyard, chaos ensues and we cross our fingers that nothing goes wrong!
