The 12' Point Defiance is a traditionally-styled rowing & sailing boat based on a design from the late 1800s and early 1900s. These versatile, forgiving little boats were often used as rental boats off of Point Defiance, where hobbyist fishermen and families would take them out for the day in the famous salmon runs nearby. This area has a lot of strong currents and tidal rips that can surprise a novice rower or sailor, so these boats had to be stable enough to fish in, but also seaworthy enough to manage those conditions. On today's episode we travel 20 miles south to long key bridge to catch some beautiful high flying tarpon. The goal was to land Stephanie's largest Tarpon to date. But theses fish, as elusive as the are, never gave Clay the chance to grab any of Stephanie's fish. Nonetheless we still got to land one early in the morning, and got see many other fly high and pull drag. Last but not least we finished off the day at the Islamorada sandbar with a small group of friends. Few days ago we published a movie on our blog about our situation in the Caribbean and Saint Lucia, where we are at the moment. As we said in the movie, the situation on many Caribbean Islands has been changing from day to day and so it happened here, in Saint Lucia. On April 1st, a 24-hour curfew was introduced until April 8th. At one moment the island was practically closed (including shops). For us, this means, that we are not allowed to go to the shore. The next day, two dates were introduced for small grocery stores to be open, but only for few hours. Despite everything, the situation looks quite calm here. The Prime Minister calls on citizens to cooperate and set aside any political and other differences. We are anchored in Rodney Bay in the vicinity of about 30 other sailboats and as we are usually provisioned for longer (i.e. several weeks) we have something to eat and restrictions are not painful for us. And ... how are we are dealing now on one surface ? This is different story ... On its way. We wish you much health, love and peace until the world returns to its new form.
