Friday June 8th: The fist day of the NYYC Annual Regatta kicked off today with a race around Jamestown Island. It was a picture perfect day with an increasing southerly breeze and sunny skies treated a fleet of over 140 boats in fourteen classes.

This was the case for Evi Van Acker (BEL) who began her sailing life in Optimists before things started to get serious. A film I made recently about a new RNLI All weather Lifeboat being capsized in a test.

This is the maiden of my scratch built Shereshaw XP-3. It is an amalgamation of Ben Shereshaw's XP-3, RC-1, and "Twin-boom" designs from the late 1930's. I have converted it to RC/electric to compete in our local "Old-Timer" climb and glide competition. Build time is about 11 moths. I worked with Dan Walton from Laser Technologies on the design and he provided many laser cut parts. He will be making a laser cut version available soon. The I-169 is the only submarine in the lagoon. The forward section and conning tower were blown apart by Japanese depth charges and there is a scattered debris field. The aft section is intact. The Sankisan aft is completely missing but the stern is upright and sits 100m/330ft away from the rest of the ship. In the forward holds are thousands of bullets, a variety of truck chassis, machine guns, aircraft engines and propellers, medicine bottles. Truk Lagoons famous deep dive. There are 3 tanks on the deck, trucks are in the second hold. Hemispherical mines can be found in the first hold along with torpedoes, hundreds of depth charges, and bullets. There is a well-preserved bow gun. The Heian was converted from a passenger liner into a sub tender; she's the largest intact wreck in the lagoon. On the bow you can clearly read the name in both English and Kanshi. The Unkai has some different more personal items in the holds. You'll find gas masks, helmets, shoes, bottles, china and a wheelbarrow.
