Le départ de la course est donné des Sables d'Olonne tous les quatre ans. Les éditions précédentes ont été remportées par Titouan Lamazou, Alain Gautier, Christophe Auguin, Michel Desjoyeaux et Vincent Riou. Jason Kettlestrings of YachtVid recounts a 2008 offshore sailing trip aboard a Hans Christian 33 to San Francisco. The trip started in Bellingham WA with one stop in Port Angeles WA and ends in San Francisco. A buddy boat left with us but when they reached San Francisco the buddy boat opted to anchor out and wait for daylight while the fearless crew of the SeaHorse powered through, with the help of AIS!
