Oh no my car has disappeared!

After an early morning rickety Tuk Tuk ride to an overpacked ferry on our journey from Kho Lanta to Phuket, we had an interlude of 4 hours on the Island of Kho Phi Phi. Gorgeous. We hired a Long Tail boat to take us to 'Monkey beach' where we saw... Monkeys on the beach.... of course ; ) Then some snorkelling around the coral and sea caves before we had to head back to catch our next Ferry to Phuket town where we are now. We've arrived at our pre-planned 'Back Packs off' final destination for some 'easy livin time' (a beach resort much like what you'd find in Mexico') at 5pm Sadly our adventure winds down to it's end...we've had an amazing time, full of Adventure and we've all learnt a ton about South East Asia. What an experience.

Dimanche matin, si tout va bien, François Gabart devrait en finir avec son premier tour du monde en solitaire sans escale et sans assistance. Un final en apothéose, où le vainqueur devra d'abord triompher des derniers écueils météo qui s'élèvent sur sa route. Armel Le Cléac'h, attendu entre 3 et 6 heures plus tard, sera à la même enseigne. Bientôt le pied à terre Les marins ont-ils le pied terrien ? A l'arrivée, souvent, ils vacillent. Sur les pontons, dans l'émotion. Pendant deux mois et demi, leur pied-à-terre s'est limité à un réduit de moins de 9 m2 dont une partie n'était accessible qu'à quatre pattes. Une petite tanière en carbone, mal isolée, en perpétuel mouvement. La cuisine ? Un réchaud. Les toilettes ? Un seau. La chambre ? Un pouf à billes. Les relations humaines ? Dématérialisées. L'environnement ? Un désert liquide. En l'espace de quelques minutes, au moment où MACIF s'amarrera au ponton de Port Olona, François Gabart, 29 ans, va basculer d'un monde à l'autre. Un électrochoc chargé de sensations fortes, positives. Et qui met d'un coup en lumière toute l'âpreté et la beauté du voyage accompli. Cerise sur le bateau : c'est en vainqueur que le benjamin de la flotte sera accueilli. Mais avant les bravos dans le chenal des Sables d'Olonne, il devra d'abord passer un ultime examen. Un dernier « run » un peu sauvage à 20 nœuds de moyenne, dans un golfe de Gascogne agité par une mer croisée, puis le rapide passage d'un front en milieu de matinée, décochant ses rafales à 40/45 nœuds. Armel Le Cléac'h, attendu entre 3 et 6 heures plus tard dans le port d'arrivée, sera soumis au même régime. Brillant dauphin et inséparable compagnon d'arme de François, le skipper de Banque Populaire a été l'autre grand patron de la course qu'il a animée par ses coups tactiques. Il sera ovationné avec autant de ferveur que le lauréat. Alex au grand cœur Dimanche soir, pendant que les deux premiers fêteront sur la terre ferme les retrouvailles avec leurs proches, il restera encore 10 solitaires en course. Parmi eux, l'homme qui complètera le podium de ce 7e Vendée Globe. Depuis l'avarie de quille de Virbac-Paprec 3, cette 3e place est promise à Hugo Boss. Hier soir, Alex Thomson a pris une noble décision : escorter, un temps, Jean-Pierre Dick. Des Açores à la ligne d'arrivée, la météo se corse pour les deux hommes qui affrontent les mêmes vents que les leaders. Mais avec une mer encore plus difficile. Dans ce contexte, le marin britannique a estimé qu'il ne pouvait pas laisser son compagnon de route sans ange gardien, au moins le temps que ce dernier évalue sa situation. Cette décision, Alex l'a prise spontanément, sans qu'il y ait demande d'assistance de la part de Jean-Pierre ou de l'organisation du Vendée Globe. Une initiative pleine de panache. Aujourd'hui, Dick fait cap vers les côtes portugaises, une route qui lui permet d'éviter le plus fort du vent de sud-ouest et la grosse mer. En attendant de prendre une décision définitive d'ici deux ou trois jours, il a légué sa troisième position à Thomson. « Prends soin de cette 3e place » lui écrivait-il cet après-midi. Ce dernier a empanné pour gagner dans le nord, vers l'archipel des Açores. Sur le chemin des Sables d'Olonne, Hugo Boss naviguera dans des conditions très musclées. Alex pourrait passer la ligne d'arrivée dans la journée de mardi...

Dans la nuit de samedi à dimanche, Arnaud Boissières a franchi l'équateur à bord de son monocoque AKENA Vérandas. Huitième skipper de la flotte à revenir dans l'hémisphère nord, le skipper français a fêté ça comme il se doit.

François Gabart crossed the Vendée Globe finish line at 15 hours 18 minutes 40 seconds, French time, setting a new solo round-the-world record of 78 day, 2 hours, 16 minutes and 40 seconds. Beating Michel Desjoyeaux's record by 6 day 00 hours 53 minutes His final race time is 78 days 2 hours 16 minutes 40 seconds. His average speed was 15.3 knots and covering 28,646.55 miles. Note: the race's theoretical distance is 24,393.41 miles.

We wrap up the week-long trip but cruising south on the east coast of Tortola back to the Sunsail marina in Road Town. We're met with a Sunsail crewman and he navigates the boat into a tight spot on the dock where we spend our last night aboard. Early the next morning we pack up and lower the family flag, concluding an amazing vacation.

Our final day "at sea", we leave Cane Garden Bay and head north to Marina Cay where we do a little sightseeing followed by some snorkeling.

The boys take the cat out of White Bay for us and we skirt the island north and do a little sightseeing around Little Jost and Sandy Cay before crossing over to Cane Garden Bay. We wandered around the town and beach for awhile and stopped off for a few drinks watching the pelican diving at Sailor's Rest Bar & Grill before heading back to the boat for a sunset dinner and a quiet evening aboard.

A quick stop at Soper's before heading over to Jost Van Dyke. We first try to find a mooring ball in White Bay, but no success... so we moor up in Great bay and dinghy back over to White Bay for the afternoon. On our way there, we spot a vacant mooring ball and leave one group with the ball while we go back and get the cat. When the dust settles, we head to The Soggy for some Painkillers where we met the nicest guy, Art. Many painkilers later we head over to Foxy's for dinner and karaoke before the dinghy back to the Cat for the night.
