Sailing from Thursday island, Australia, the BPO fleet arrived in Tual. Tual is a Port of Entry where yachts can clear into Indonesia with Quarantine, Customs , Immigration and Harbour Master. This was the first visit of Indonesia for most BPO participants and a good place to discover Indonesian food and way of life. The group was welcomed at the old King’s House near the port of Tual. During their visit (14-18 October 2015), the group had the chance to visit a local school, traditional markets, swim in a fresh water cave and visit Bair Island. Thanks to the Tual Culture & Tourism office for arranging visits and to Olaf for arranging a tour of Langgur. Thanks to Kevin McLeod for additional music.

Today we started my son's atv speaker and radio project. Our goal is to build a fiberglass speaker box that will mount on the front rack, but be light enough that it can be used as a mobile entertainment center. We were going to used PVC, but after we got the two Y pipes found they were going to be in the way on this size atv. Parts sourced from Home Depot: fiberglass resin and acetone, gorilla wood glue, wood, latex gloves, brushes, saw saw blades Parts sourced from Amazon: Boss Marine Radio, Boss Marine Speakers 6.5, Fiberglass BOSS AUDIO MCKGB350W.6 Marine Package Includes MGR350B In-Dash Gauge AM/FM Digital Media Receiver with Bluetooth, One Pair of 6.5 inch MR6W Marine Speakers, MRANT10 Marine Antenna Weather Proof One Pair of MR6W 6.5" Full Range Marine Speakers with Poly Carbon Cone and Rubber Surround 180 Watts MAX 90 Watts RMS Power Handling per Pair IPX6 Rated Marine MR350B has 60 Watts x 4 Max Power and Preset built-in EQ Plays USB/MP3/WMA, FM/AM, Smart Phones. A battery powered saw saw is not the tool of choice for cutting speaker holes, the blade is much to wide, it is hard to see what you are cutting, and the battery does not last long enough. I was doing the rest of the cut with a skill saw, and I have two battery powered drills. We finally made it through it, but I think this was the hardest part of the project. The frame of the ATV speaker box is starting to take form, we have changed the design from what we had plan, but there is nothing on paper. I want to get as much airspace as I can for the speakers, still not compromising function of the ATV. The speakers also have enough angle that the front wheels can be turned to their sharpest point, and still not bust your knuckles. End of day one, have put about 2 hours getting the parts, and another 2 hours building on the ATV fiberglass speaker box after work. Yes YouTube is not my career, I have to still work. I have the basic shape of the speaker box mocked up and have placed the Boss marine radio and Boss marine 6.5 speakers in the fiberglass speaker frame and I think it is turning out nice. The form may change, but I think this is great progress for 2 hours with the wrong tools. Jean Le Cam, always looking for a sponsor for the Vendée Globe 2016. Jean who has all the assets to a sponsor, explains how to write a good story.
A bon entendeur…
Here's how you could really make a man's Christmas: reunite him with his lost GoPro that's full of memories of his holiday in Thailand! I found this GoPro Hero 4 whilst snorkeling off the south-west coast of Ko Lanta in Thailand. The battery still had power and I was even able to record the moment when it resurfaced after being under water for what must be a month or so. There's not much to go on in terms of clues but I think the owner is a young American man. He may have studied at the University of California (he's wearing a Golden Bears cap) and the friend in the pictures and videos may be his brother called Adam. That's all we know so if you can help by sharing this clip so he gets to see it, we've set up a page for him to contact us on. He (or you, if you know him) can get in touch at: https://www.patreon.com/followtheboat or at http://www.followtheboat/gopro. We're video bloggers and we document our adventures as we slowly sail around this fascinating planet. We produce fortnightly video diary episodes and publish them on Patreon and then youtube, but we also put together random clips that fall outside of our video series. We call these FTB Extras and this clip is one such feature. It has a beginning and a middle but, as yet, it doesn't have an end. That's where you come in. We need your help finding this man to reunite him with this GoPro. I'm hoping I can make this guy's Christmas. Here's how it started: My friend and I were snorkelling in Thailand when I found a GoPro on a selfie stick on the sea bed. A small amount of water had got into the housing but it still had some battery power. The irony of this story is that the friend I was with was games developer American McGee who, earlier this year, also found a GoPro. His story went viral when he managed to track down the Spanish owner. So, if I am to reunite this camera with its owner then I need to do some detective work. When American found his GoPro there were loads of clues on the memory card that enabled him to identify where the owner came from. I wasn't so lucky. The first clue is the condition of the selfie stick. If there is one thing I know something about it's growth on an object when underwater since I regularly have to scrape my hull of barnacles. At a guess I would suggest the camera has been underwater for around a month. Despite this the camera itself was in pretty good condition and there was still some battery power. Unfortunately water had got into the lens and the front display but the touch-screen was fine and the memory card was in perfect condition. The second thing was to check the time-stamp on the files. Unfortunately with digital cameras if you don't set the internal clock it time-stamps from January 1st zero-hundred hours and all the images and clips appeared to be recorded in January. This didn't make sense since I found the camera in December. Although the Hero 4 came out a year ago, the growth on the housing and stick didn't look to be one year's worth. Next I watched every clip to listen to evidence of where the owner came from. Unfortunately, and perhaps strangely for me as someone's who is used to talking to camera, the owner and his friend don't do any talking in the clips! There's a moment when one of them calls out to the other whilst riding an elephant but I can't work out his name. The only consistent conversation recorded is between the owner of the camera and the elephant he's riding. I'm guessing he's speaking Thai to his four-legged friend. There are one or two other moments when a word is uttered and they sounded American to me. That's about all I can tell you about this guy. He's American, may be a post-grad on an extended backpacking trip, looks to be in his mid-late 20s, has perfect teeth, traveled quite a bit of Thailand and visited Ko Lanta since that's where I found the camera. If you know either of these two guys then please ask them to get in touch. Get in touch via our Patreon website, www.patreon.com/followtheboat. I'd really like to make this guy's Christmas and reunite him with his camera and his memories. Peace. ****************************** The music is out theme music to our video diary of our travel and sailing adventures as we cruise around this beautiful planet - 'Suddenly' by Otis McDonald

To undertake the crewed around-the-world record is as much about the human adventure as it is a technical and sporting challenge. The men and women working alongside Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard at Spindrift racing have been preparing this race against the clock for almost three years. The target: to sail around the world in less than 45 days, 13 hours and 42 minutes. The tough record they will try to beat was set by Loïck Peyron and his crew in 2012 on Banque Populaire V, which was renamed Spindrift 2 a year later. The French-Swiss team decided to use the same 40 m trimaran because they believed that the boat could be further optimised, a task that sailors, engineers and technicians at the team have been working on ever since. After countless hours of work at the boatyard and 40,000 nautical miles of racing and training, the Spindrift racing-prepared trimaran is all set to go. The team will officially go on stand-by on October 19th and wait for the ideal weather window. 28th day of sailing. The ocean , too Pacific is making the crew work hard. Intelligence, techniques, strenght, courage and unfailing support ..down below. It's an amazing story, a story about two men, who met back in 2002 : FRancis Joyon and Patrice Lafargue. THE JULES VERNE TROPHY, A LEGENDARY RECORD Around the world in eight days was published by Jules Verne in 1873 and inspired sailors to create one of the greatest ocean adventures of modern times, the Jules Verne Trophy. Since the first attempts in the winter of 1993, the crewed round the world record has attracted a lot of interest. Far from being over, it already has a rich history. By taking part in his first crewed record attempt, Francis Joyon could well write a new chapter in this saga… After a fantastic race, Peyron won the tenth edition of the Route du Rhum with a time of 7 days, 15 hours 8 minutes and 32 seconds – a new race record! Now in the colours of IDEC SPORT with Francis Joyon at the helm, the maxi trimaran has not yet finished harvesting successes… Francis Joyon Francis Joyon back, but this time with a crew by tackling the legendary Jules Verne Trophy, the crewed round the world voyage, at the helm of a maxi trimaran (ex Groupama 3 then Banque Populaire VII). The time to beat is 45 days 13 hours 42 minutes and 53 seconds set in 2012 by Loïck Peyron and his crew on Banque Populaire V. If he manages to do better, Francis Joyon will become the first man to hold the two finest world records sailing solo and with a crew. The bar is high up, but certainly not above the capability of a sailor like Francis Joyon. He wants to become the first sailor to hold the two most prestigious round the world records, sailing solo and with a crew (the Jules Verne Trophy): Francis Joyon’s latest challenge is certainly a fascinating one. L’équipage d’IDEC SPORT – Francis Joyon (FRA) – Bernard Stamm (SUI) – Gwénolé Gahinet (FRA) – Alex Pella (ESP) – Clément Surtel (FRA) – Boris Herrmann (GER) Caractéristiques du maxi trimaran IDEC SPORT : Architectes : Cabinet VPLP (Van Péteghem-Lauriot Prévost) Noms précédents : Groupama 3, Banque Populaire VII Longueur : 31,50 m Largeur : 22,50 m Déplacement : 18 000 kg Tirant d’eau : 5,70 m Hauteur du mât : 33,50 m Structure : carbone-Nomex Voilure au près : 411 m2 Voilure au portant : 678 m2 Date de la première mise à l’eau : juin 2006 THE JULES VERNE TROPHY, A LEGENDARY RECORD Around the world in eight days was published by Jules Verne in 1873 and inspired sailors to create one of the greatest ocean adventures of modern times, the Jules Verne Trophy. It is what you might expect from a sailor, who although very discreet when ashore, is tough and determined at sea, and over the years has built up an exceptional list of successes.
