Vingt-troisième jour de confinement, nous avons appris par téléphone satellite que le Krakatoa s’était rallumé ! Gaïa essaierait-elle d’envoyer un signe à quelques irréductibles ! Est-ce que conjecturer une sorte de présage en regardant un phénomène naturel est si irrationnel ? Tenez, prenez exemple de ces fous, hier soir qui nous ont survolés pendant plus de deux heures, faut-il seule-ment y voir des oiseaux curieux ou peut-on raisonnablement y voir un signe avant-coureur de mauvais temps ? Après une nuit de recul, je vous le dis les amis, méfiez-vous des piafs trop familiers, ils sont de mauvais augures ! Nous ne pouvons imputer aux dieux ce coup de Trafalgar car finalement, affables, ils nous ont envoyé par vol leurs auspices ! Mais que c’est dur ! Vous savez, nous en avons entendu des « Oh l’océan Indien, les doigts dans le nez !» ou des « moi, je domine les éléments !» … Que bien soit fait à ces arrogants pleins d’orgueil et de vanité car je ne suis pas méchante, mais sachez-le, nous sommes tous autant que nous sommes que de minuscules particules qui peuvent à tout moment parce que mère nature la décidé, disparaitre ! Nous ne sommes au-dessus de rien, n’avons aucun droit sur la nature, c’est elle qui détient le dogme de nos vies. Cette vérité, elle nous saute aux yeux quant au milieu de nulle part, il faut se soumettre, il faut subir ! Je me sens encombrée d’un sentiment difficile à exprimer. Je ne cherche pas à me plaindre, loin de là car la situation dans laquelle nous sommes, nous l’avons choisi. Nous ne sommes pas malades, ni meurtris par la vie ou privés d’Amour, nous sommes seulement submergés par nos émotions… Notre pauvre Blacky, si pacifiste, endure… griffe après griffe, il gravit chaque saccadées, il franchit chaque vague, il entrave chaque déferlante. Pour nous, il se fait passer à tabac ! Et ça tape, et ça tape encore, pourtant il n’est pas du genre à se laisser faire mais là, l’adversaire est de taille. Il a de l’entrainement, des années de pratique, des millénaires d’expérience… Tout est amplifiées, une émotion sourde étreint ma gorge ! Sur notre lit de quart, Cyril vient de se servir de mon pied pour supporter sa tablette, la futilité qui de toute évidence n’a aucune con-séquence, met ma sensibilité à fleur de peau et dans un sanglot rieur involontaire, les yeux pleins de larmes, je craque ! Mon pauvre Amour ! Lui qui fait tout pour être rassurant, prévenant, attentionné, ne sais quoi penser ! Moi non plus d’ailleurs, je n’ai rien sentie venir, et là, je sens tout mon être envahie d’un déferlement d’émois. J’ai l’impression d’évacuer un trop plein, d’avoir toute ma sérénité ébranlée par les commotions de la nuit. En quelques secondes mon insoupçonnable accumulation se libère, nous vivons l’Indien. Il est si intense, si excessif, si puissant, si impétueux. Il met nos nerfs à rudes épreuves et il le sait ! Black Lion mérite toute notre reconnaissance, il supporte sans le moindre grincement. Entre deux vagues, il s’efforce de garder un équilibre et bien souvent, se retrouve à faire le grand écart aux sommets de deux crêtes, une patte à l’arrière, une patte à l’avant ! Dans le bouillon de la noirceur, il s’évertuait à rester à bonne dis-tance des éclairs, ceux qui dans nos pensées les plus profondes, nous font craindre le pire ! Que ferions-nous si une de ces sou-daines foudres nous tombait dessus, mieux vaut ne pas y songer ! Les derniers GRIB sont clairs, le vent va encore forcir pour atteindre les 35 nœuds. Nous ne sommes plus qu’à 80 milles de Farquhar, 9º55'439 S, 52º29'003 E et deux solutions se présente à nous… Soit, nous tentons une entrée dans le lagon de cet atoll des Seychelles, ce qui implique d’attendre à l’extérieur de nuit, de risquer d’entrée avec un moteur boiteux, de ne pas être accepter avec les restrictions du Corona et de devoir repartir avec encore plus de vent. Soit, nous continuons jusqu’à Mayotte avec le vent pour nous et pouvons enfin prévoir une arrivée en terre Française dans moins de 5 jours. La deuxième issue nous semble la plus raisonnable ! Décidés, nous poursuivons… Le réconfort de mon capitaine apaise mon vague à l’âme …

13 avril, 117,4 milles en vingt-quatre heures. Position à dix heures du matin 10º48'722 S et 50º51'159 E. Le vent se maintient entre 20 et 25 nœuds et le courant s’en donne à cœur joie. Avec deux ris dans la grand-voile et le Solent, nous avançons très péniblement entre 4 et 5 nœuds. Nous sommes fatigués ! Notre cerveau a repris le relais pour nous aider à minimiser. En haut, sur le bimini, la houle semble moins haute et nous arrivons presque à trouver la mer belle ! De l’effervescence de ses profondeurs dans un mugissement saisissant surgissent des cimes blanches comme la neige. Éphémères, elles profitent de cet instant pour faire vivre leur âme et d’un mouvement en déclin, dans un éclat d’un bleu turquoise phosphorescent, vont retrouver les abysses. Le courage est-il de vivre ses rêves ou de laisser la vie s’en emparer ? Sur la définition encyclopédique, il est dit que le courage est la « capacité d’un humain de vaincre sa peur pour braver le danger, supporter la souffrance, entreprendre des choses effrayantes, douloureuses ou difficiles » et la définition des temps moderne dit « capacité à ne pas avoir peur, face à une situation potentiellement effrayante. ». De la première interprétation, je pourrais en déduire que le courage est en nous tous, puisque tous, choisissons des voix plus ou moins audacieuses aux yeux des autres et de la deuxième j’en conclue définitivement que nous ne sommes pas courageux car je n’ai pas honte de dire qu’en cette nuit du 13 au 14 avril, nous avons réellement eut très peur ! Il est vingt-et-une heure, le vent forcit, l’anémomètre annonce 35 nœuds. Cyril a les yeux rivés sur ses écrans. À l’intérieur, un fracas interrompt ma réflexion sur les mots. Alors que nous commencions à peine à nous adapter douloureusement à la force du vent, un monstre se forme au-dessus de nous ! Dehors c’est une calamité plus épouvantable que le déluge ! Il est sorti de nulle part, du néant, des enfers ou Dieu seul sait d’où ! Que vient-il faire par ici le démiurge ? Est-il réceptif à mes supplications de mécréante ? Je me souviens, il y a sept ans, quasiment au même endroit, j’implorais les Dieux, les divinités, les esprits. Je leur conjurais de nous épargner. Moi qui crois en la vie, en la nature, à l’indubitable, je me mets à prier. L’Homme a-t-il besoin de croire pour exister, de croire pour être rassurer, de croire pour surmonter sa peur ? Nous tremblons de tous nos membres, tétanisons tous nos muscles, confinons au plus profond de notre ventre, cette peur qui nous épouvante ! Il est trop tard pour affaler, le belliqueux est déjà trop excité. Il se répand, gonfle, se renforce et d’un coup vif, dans une rage obscure et impénétrable nous agresse à 50 nœuds ! L’eau se fend à son approche, bouillonnante, elle ébullitionne sous ses redans, essaie de le rattraper mais c’est trop tard, l’allure du fauve est ahurissante, il accélère à 17 nœuds ! La créature bestiale riposte ! Dans un grondement diabolique elle vient nous martelet, vient hurler son indignation et fait déferler sur toute la largeur de notre courageux étalon trois géantes rouleuses sorties du plus profond de ses entrailles ! Sous tant d’agressivité, un panneau solaire s’arrache ! Un point partout… Devant cette lutte acharnée, Cyril est dominé par les transes d’une rupture de direction, d’un démâtage ; d’une casse de pou-lie, petit, la médiocrité des fixations sur un manège à sensations lui a laissé un traumatisme et depuis il leur entretient une certaine méfiance et ce n’est pas les trois qui se sont cassées dernièrement qui vont le rassurer. Il craint un fatal empannage. Dans ce tumulte, il ne tient plus, sous la pression, il faut absolument qu’il libère sa vessie. Le soulagement semble peut-être anodin, mais sous presque cent kilomètres heure de force éolienne, il détient du cocasse ! Figé à la barre, il ne peut se déplacer et je dois tenir un sceau pour qu’il puisse se décharger, encore une fois, c’est uniquement sur cet océan que nous avons dû avoir recours à une telle méthode ! Les alarmes clament, vitesse du vent, vitesse du bateau, tout est trop élevé. Et celle-là, pourquoi elle sonne, nous ne l’avons jamais entendue ! Mon capitaine désarmé, encourage encore et plus fort son brave allié par des caresses, lui supplie de ne pas faillir ! What got us through four long and sometimes miserable months of boat work on the East Coast late fall into winter? Dreaming of floating in the incredible turquoise waters of the Bahamas! In this episode, we recover from our treacherous, gale passage in the beautiful island of Spanish Wells, Eleuthera. And though we've made it to paradise, paradise does have its windy moments. This is quite typical of the Bahamas in January though and we're just so glad to be cruising again that it doesn't bother us much. One of our favourite aspects of cruising the Bahamas is the bounty of it's waters and enjoying fresh seafood all season long. We got lucky while in Eleuthera and didn't even have to work for it when a little squid hopped on board over night. Fresh calamari anyone??
