By living simply, we hope to stretch our funds in the cruising kitty to keep us afloat for at least a couple of years. The only thing separating us from endless summer is the 2,000+ miles of coastline from Maine to the Caribbean. After being reported to the planing and zoning commission we're asked to leave our dock :( It doesn't matter though because it's the perfect time to leave having finished most of our projects. With a canal width of 60 feet and Delos being 56 feet including the solar arch and anchor it doesn't leave much room for a maneuver. We anchor in Lake Boca for the night, and after literally bumping into our friends on Calico Skies we decide to head south to HollyWood, FL to anchor right behind Papa SV Delos's condo. Not a good experience I have to say, a bit of a damage on the keel, but luckily we have the boat booked to come out of the water next week so we will be able to fix it sooner rather than later. Sometimes even the most straight forward of tasks leads to an adventure. We plan to check out of Carriacou only to find that the customs office closed for good just the day before. Me meet up with Greg-OR-ry and he takes us on chill ride to the main town where the officials are hangin out. They take a short break from watching YouTube videos to stamp our papers and we’re off! We arrive at Union island, get cleared with customs and immigration, and proceed to the infamous Happy Island which it turns out is built entirely of conch shells. The owner Ravi spent the last 15 years building this island on a sand bar out of the discarded shells from the local fisherman. It’s survived countless hurricanes and now he serves a pretty mean rum punch! Slightly hungover we find ourselves sailing towards a very special group of protected islands known as the Tobago Cays Marine park. On my first snorkel to shore I see a ray, a few turtles, and even squid. Needless to say the protection is paying off big time in this area and we’re so happy to be able to share it with you. Manta Catamarans are one of the only catamarans that were built in the USA, and are arguable the only BLUEWATER catamarans built in the states. Unfortunately, Manta is out of business, so there aren't any new Mantas for sale, but the older ones are still strong, light, and bluewater capable. They're built to live aboard and cross oceans, and it's readily apparent in every aspect of the design. We were very impressed! They're also built for performance, and although most have mini-keels, there are a few will daggerboards. I'd love to see how a Manta with daggerboards performs. It could be a serious contender for our next boat! This particular boat I believe is priced fairly at $219,000, pending a survey, and it goes to show you that you don't have to drop half a million dollars on a good catamaran to cross oceans. We're glad to be back and touring boats!
