Nach dem Einklarieren in Australien haben wir in „The Boats Works“ MariaNoa an Land stellen lassen und das Antifouling erneuert, die Propeller mit ihren Ropecuttern neu montiert, den Service beider Motoren gemacht und die Hülle polieren lassen. Hier am Steg des „Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club“ haben wir vor allem das Schiff leergeräumt. Containerweise haben wir Ausrüstungsgegenstände und persönliche Dinge weggeworfen, weil es einfach keinen finanziellen Sinn macht, diese für horrendes Geld nach Deutschland zu verschiffen. Es war absurd, sich von vielen teilweise neuwertigen Dingen zu trennen, die durchaus ihren Wert haben. Einen Caravan für ein halbes Jahr zu mieten, ist viel zu teuer. Wir suchen nach einem gebrauchten Wohnmobil („preloved“ wie es hier manchmal heißt) für unsere Roadtour durch Australien und werden es am Ende unserer Reise wieder verkaufen. Noch wissen wir nicht, wie groß es sein soll, wie alt und wie teuer. Aber es zeichnet sich langsam ab, dass uns eine Raumaufteilung wichtig ist, dass einerseits ein Bett ständig zur Verfügung steht und gleichzeitig eine Sitzgelegenheit mit Tisch, an dem ich arbeiten kann, wenn ich wieder einmal nachts nicht schlafen kann. Day 1 of our Scotland adventure starts early… very early. We’re heading from Hampshire up to Scotland to begin the NC500, with a long day of driving ahead of us. After a broken night’s sleep in a motorway stop (thanks to loud cars and even louder exhausts), we push on north with seven-plus hours still to go. Somewhere past Birmingham, stopping at a quiet reservoir, the journey really begins to change. Motorways slowly give way to hills, valleys and that first proper feeling of Scotland — including the moment we finally pass the “Welcome to Scotland” sign. By the end of the day, the miles are worth it. We arrive at an incredible spot at the end of Loch Ness, with a private beach, a stream, space for a small campfire and views that make every tired mile disappear. When your outboard engine doesn't wanna start, it can of course have multiple reasons. From experience, the carburetor is the most common. Those little nozzles can clog up quickly and practically starve the engine. Sounds difficult but no worries, it's actually pretty straight forward. In this video I show you how to take out the carburetor, open it up, clean it safely, and reassemble everything with expected result, the engine starts and runs like new! Tools required: Socketwrenchset, screwdrivers, some rags and patience. So let's fix our Yamaha 8HP two-stroke outboard together! Die Straßen sind extrem schlecht, das australische Englisch ist extrem schwierig zu verstehen und die Natur ist extrem – in jeder Beziehung. Was ich damit meine, erlebt ihr in diesem Film. „Ihr Europäer habt die Geschichte, wir Australier haben die Natur“ hören wir wiederholt. Es ist Hochsommer auf der Südhalbkugel. Immer wieder lodern Buschfeuer auf und Straßen sind gesperrt. Solange keine Siedlungen gefährdet sind, werden die Feuer jedoch nicht bekämpft. Manchmal kommt das Leben aber anders als man plant. Im Frühjahr 2020 erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben passte als in meins. In den folgenden 6 Monaten hat Brigitta aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich über unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Insgesamt sind wir aktuell 4 ½ Jahre unterwegs. Ein Abenteuer folgt dem nächsten und wir genießen jeden Tag aufs Neue. Auf der Suche nach Freiheit und Unabhängigkeit, Abenteuerlust und Naturverbundenheit segeln wir - Brigitta und Hannes - gemeinsam um die Welt. Für diese Weltumsegelung haben wir uns den Katamaran Lagoon 40 MariaNoa gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März 2021 von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind.
