Andy creates access panels on the floor to get to the water, fuel and motors he may need to access for inspections. We found a cool bottle opener on the boat and reinstalled that in the galley while Nancy was making dinner one night. Finally, we both don our scuba gear and get to work to doing our 1st hull cleaning of the bottom of the boat and the rudder and keel. We were able to complete approx. 80% of the boat on this 1st try. The water temp in April was finally warming up to a blustery 68 degrees… Burr, it was cold. Many Mediterranean yacht charter companies tell you that you have to get your ICC (International Certificate of Competence). But they’re often using “ICC” like an eponym—just like saying you’re going to “Google” something. What they really mean is that you need a recognized sailing license that their country and their insurance accept. In North America, getting an ICC is difficult because it’s issued through the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) in the UK and there are limited options here. That’s why, if you’re in the US or Canada, the practical path is to get your SLC (Sailing License and Credentials) instead. We planned an early morning departure for the 150-nautical-mile sail to Ponta Delgada. But unfortunately, our anchor was fouled, so we had to call a diver to free it. To make things worse, the motor on our anchor windlass stopped working. We checked the solenoid, wiring, and all connections, which meant it could only be the motor. The divers from https://www.norbertodiver.pt/ arrived around 5:30 p.m. and quickly freed our anchor for €80. They were friendly and efficient - great service if you are unfortunate enough to get stuck. After manually getting the anchor on board, we were finally able to set off. It turned out to be a brilliant overnight sail with amazing conditions. We arrived in Ponta Delgada after dark, but since it's an easy port to enter and we've been here twice before, it wasn't an issue. Wir springen ein paar Wochen zurück und bereiten unsere Maxi auf das Winterlager 2025/2026 vor ⛵️Außerdem wechseln wir als letzte Amtshandlung kurz vor dem Kranen das Öl und tauschen auch den Ölfilter aus - alles noch gerade so rechtzeitig vor dem Kranen. Viel Spaß beim Reinschauen! ----- Moin! Wir sind Rika und Johannes aus Hamburg. Zusammen mit Rikas Schwester Julia segeln wir mit unserer Maxi 84 nach und nach durch die Dänische Südsee, um unsere Segel-Skills zu erweitern und das tolle Wassersport-Revier zu erkunden. Von den vielen kleinen Inseln und dem teilweise klaren Wasser sind wir immer wieder fasziniert. Die Ostsee-Törns sind definitiv unsere Highlights. Normalerweise trefft ihr uns jedoch auf unserem Heimatrevier direkt vor unserer Haustür an: Der Außenalster in Hamburg. Denn, wir haben uns im April 2021 einen Kielzugvogel gekauft. Mit dem Holzboot ist auch unsere Segel-Leidenschaft gestartet. Zwischen April und Oktober genießen wir also das Segeln auf der Knysna [ˈnaɪzna] (so haben wir unseren Kielzugvogel getauft, nach einer Stadt in Südafrika benannt). Im Herbst 2023 haben wir uns einen weitern Traum erfüllt und uns eine Maxi 84 gekauft. Diese wurde von uns Ende Oktober 2023 nach Kiel überführt. Seit dem widmen wir uns im Winterlager auch diesem schwedischen Segelklassiker, im Sommer erkunden wir die Dänische Südsee. Dabei haben wir uns immer nach dem Motto gerichtet: Learning by Doing Auf diesem Kanal möchten wir Euch zeigen, wie wir stetig dazulernen, Fortschritte machen aber auch manchmal an unsere Grenzen stoßen.
