Soon assembly of the dinghy will start. This week Mark makes the patterns for the side frames and cuts the frames from white oak. Also the bow and stern transoms are glued up. Mark needs to get to the dentist, so renting a car is the best option to get there. We chose the cheapest option, which means the rental company gets to pick what we drive. We end up with a black convertible Mustang! We enjoy driving through the Annapolis valley, one of Nova Scotia’s farming areas. We carry on to Cape Forchu and Yarmouth before heading home. We end the video with a short recap of Marks return trip from Bermuda to Canada.

This is part 4 of a step-by-step build of a B&B Yacht Designs Spindrift 10 nesting dinghy, following the guidance from the build instructions. This video focuses on preparing the outside and inside for priming, attaching the keel protector, installing a bow cleat, daggerboard hole, skewers for connecting the tow halves, priming and masking to get ready for gel coating. Notably, I did not off-set the daggerboard intentionally, I decided to just lose some of the keep protector in favor of symmetry. I purchased the pre-cut "kit" to save some time, but the same results can be accomplished by purchasing the build instructions and cutting your own marine-grade plywood. This video is for those who are looking to build their own dinghy, and who wish to learn more about the process. This is the second project Brent and I worked on together, the previous being a 7' pram for Brent. Something I do not usually talk about...something personal to me, deeply personal. My why. Why a sailboat. Why now. I suppose it was ingrained in me since a child. My parents waited, I wish they hadn't. I would have had an ENTIRELY different childhood. I am not saying the one I had was BAD...rather the opposite. It set me up for where I am today. Chasing dreams that are FAR larger than myself. Sailboats are not just a FAD for me. They are my life. Life style. ALL of it. If you are wanting to pursue your passions, my suggesting is not to wait. GO for it, today! This is a sentimental video for my dad, who passed 18yrs ago today. He was a big game fish in the marine industry where I am from, and is missed by so many. The song? Elmers tune, by Glen Miller. YT may strike it...but heck, I love it. Because, he loved it. The thumbnail? A scan of a very old test sheet of photo paper I printed back on film in College...I believe they were 5 second bursts at the time! The image was of my dad and my first sailboat. Il cosiddetto "decreto anti-maranza" (DL 23/2026), in vigore dal 25 febbraio 2026, ha introdotto restrizioni molto più severe sul porto di oggetti da taglio, rendendo l'uso dei comuni multitool e coltellini svizzeri fuori casa estremamente rischioso dal punto di vista legale. Ecco i punti chiave della nuova normativa: Cosa cambia per i multitool e i coltellini dopo il decreto "anti maranza" ?? Lama superiore a 5 cm: È ora vietato portare fuori dalla propria abitazione (o pertinenze) coltellini con lama pieghevole superiore a 5 centimetri se dotati di meccanismo di blocco o se apribili con una sola mano. Assenza di licenza: Questi oggetti sono ora assimilati ad armi per le quali non è ammessa licenza di porto. Giustificato motivo: Mentre prima la legge del 1975 permetteva il porto con un "giustificato motivo" (es. andare a funghi, campeggio), la nuova norma è molto più stringente e specifica, riducendo drasticamente i margini di interpretazione per chi usa questi strumenti per hobby o necessità quotidiane. Sanzioni e Rischi Il porto ingiustificato di questi strumenti può ora comportare conseguenze penali pesanti: Reclusione: Da 1 a 3 anni di carcere. Sanzioni accessorie: Possibile sospensione della patente di guida o della licenza di porto d'armi. Minorenni: Il decreto prevede l'ammonimento del questore per i minori dai 12 ai 14 anni sorpresi con strumenti vietati. Si possono ancora usare? In casa: L'acquisto e la detenzione all'interno della propria abitazione rimangono legittimi per i maggiorenni. Fuori casa: L'uso è fortemente sconsigliato a meno che non si tratti di modelli con lame molto corte (sotto i 5 cm) e privi di blocchi, o che non si possa dimostrare una necessità professionale o sportiva immediata e documentabile, sebbene il rischio di contestazione rimanga alto.
